Seems I may have been off-base with my assumptions about the class.

I did make a build and have been running him in WvW to pretty good effect. I’m still not finding that Necro can do anything much that Ele cannot besides DoTs, so I’m a little disappointed there, because I prefer burst over DoTs for PvP. So time to get good at DPS I guess!

I’m not particularly good at sPvP. My one skill is staying alive, so I often get slotted with the job of point denial/capture. I’m comfortable in my role at the bottom of the results list and don’t mind being the unkillable target.

For a few years, I’ve been doing this with my Staff Elementalist. With healing cantrips and Earth/Water/Arcane, I’ve had a lot of fun frustrating anything up to 3v1s trying to take me down.

I’d like to try this with Necro, but I am a complete noob to the class and have no idea where to start. The meta around Necro seems to be condi, which makes sense, but they seem like they could be a natural fit for an unkillable tank.

Can anyone point me to a workable/recent build? I know other classes can tank just as well or better, but I’d love to give the Necro a try.

I am back into game after more than a year away. Bought both expansions and have boosted a new toon to 80. I want to take them through the regular story content, because I am a loser and a completionist. However, I understand I need to go to HoT territory to unlock my elite spec.

I am looking for suggestions about how to unlock and progress through my elite specs (and get gliders, etc) without having to do all the HoT content first. Is the “unlocking” just a matter of talking to a guy, unlocking the path, and then you can do other content as normal? If so, that would be fine. But if I have to do all the HoT content first, out of order of the rest of the story content, that will annoy the kitten out of me.

Feel free to set me straight if I have that all wrong!
