Being a Commander.

Or support whatever commanders are already on the field, send them whispers, etc. A lot of TC has been doing this and it’s working quite well.

Another way to get the 100 gold that some of our commanders have gotten is to ask people to donate. Now, I’m not saying beg… However, if you’ve proven your ability to lead, often times a group or many individuals will gladly donate to get you that blue button on the map.

I was one of those Commanders in Tarnished Coast who asked for donations and was able to get enough to buy the icon. The reason people donated was because I could effectively handle and move a zerg size group. It didn’t happen overnight but over time, people would become to trust me to lead in Eternal Battleground. You have to know many variables, such as tower upgrade levels, how many supply your zerg has, how many of the opponent has, ect. You should learn how to move a zerg around without the icon as well. I did so for three weeks using techniques and thinking outside the box.

Being an effective commander takes experience and thought while being on top of things. I was lucky to get noticed early WvW as it may be harder for newer potential commanders to get noticed.

To the OP, if you haven’t had experience in leading groups (15-50), it better for you not to buy it until you have gotten more experience. There is another method that is decent replacement if your only leading 10 or fewer folks around. Bad commanders will be quickly noticed and people will begin not to trust you. Hope this helps you decide better.

(Speaking of Eternal Battlegrounds only)
As a commander in TC that leads in EB I must say it has a been a good fight. This is from my point of view and may not reflect on all TC.

CD – First I like to congratulate CD for some good fights. You been a good opponent. I can tell you have good communication going on with tower attacks. You’r not invincible but you hold your ground pretty well. I did like sneaking into SM and taking it under your nose, although I knew I wouldn’t keep it long. Just wanted to reset it. I almost did it again however I got bad intel on the wall which canceled my plans.

DB – I honestly don’t think you are up for this match (in EB only). You constantly face-palm at Ogrewatch and it seems that you get beat up by CD. SoS and CD were far better opponents than you were. Yes, I know they can treb from SM vs Durios and QL but honestly, your play has been lousy.

TC – We knew we were going up into a stronger tier. Been happy with the performance so far. I won’t speak of BL as I don’t go into other Boarder Lands. EB has been good in holding off attacks while some commanders can’t be on.

All in all, its been good stuff. I enjoy the fights and movements. Look forward to the battlefield. Some cheating have been going on on both side (possibly even TC but I haven’t seen it myself). Already met one hacker that did 35k and patrols around TC Spawn. I believe it was from a guild Xtreme (something) from DB. Yes, it was reported.

Defensive Treb'n - Clearing gate from The Castle Lord's Room

Not as good as 2 catapults guarding each gate.

issues with your treb:

  • Limited placement in lord room. Other sieges might be wanted.
  • Can only attack 1 gate a time where as catapult for each gate can be individually manned in case of 2 way attack.
  • Limit margin of error: evident as seen in the video you have a small gap to correctly hit gate and not touch the stairs in the lord room.

Overall, its a neat trick however, catapults x2 can achieve better for the same cost. Might require more supply to supply 2 catapults for each gate, but you are more likely to hold off better.

GoM simply has ZERO night/morning crew, they all transferred off to stronger servers. After about 1 am we have very few people in WvW. What happened and will continue to hapkitten that SoS has a stronger night crew so they will end up winning. During primetime though Tarnished Coast and GoM will slug it out since SoS isn’t very strong then.

GoM is a dying WvW server at this point. When we can field enough people for a queue to form we do really well, but that happens fewer and farther between. Guess it’s time to find a new server with a night crew.

I was leading for Tarnished Coast (Eternal Battleground only) really late last night-early morning (way past my usual because I was sucked in). First, after we fended off the initial attacks of GoM and SoS on SM, we were able to deter attackers. This caused SoS to shift off us and attacked GoM. Secondly, I could tell number shift from GoM to a point where we back off GoM and started focusing on SoS who would start harassing us if we didn’t do so while GoM didn’t really seem a threat to SM. This was around 1 am PST.

Sorry to hear that you have a problem with night time. I hope that you can get some numbers so we can keep it a 3 way fight. I rather have good fights than steamrolls. On that note, I want to applaud/shake my head at SoS. You kept throwing bodies at Klovan for 1 1/2 hours. Each time we pass through Klovan, we would wipe them and move on. Not 5 minutes later, more keep coming back. Good fights and SoS finally got smart with trebs placement after a while. I think we wiped Klovan attackers at least 15 times.

Notice this is for Eternal Battleground only
I am one of the few that lead in Eternal Battleground for Tarnished Coast. I first want to say I enjoyed fighting with both Mag and EB, the fights are pretty fun and you do keep us on our toes. As for the situation for the whole alliance, there is none. What is happening is more of a “Pick the (weaker) force”. I mean weaker as in territories in Eternal Battleground only. There is no communication from Mag or EB to TC as far as I know.

EB unfortunately took SM and the lead early. Mag and TC fought back and saw we could back EB into a corner. In doing so, we would have more time to recover and regroup if we lost Mendon and keeps both enemies in one area. My decisions to stay in EB’s land sometimes is because its not worth splitting your resources at two different fronts until I finished my goal beforehand. I have lead attacks on Mag and they have poached on us.

Couple of times, Mag and EB have attack SM from different sides and made good pushes. When I was leading, I was able to fend off one and then focus on the other. You both been wonderful opponents and made WvW fun for me again. I rather have a more fair ground than a completely steamroll. Last week, it was disheartening to log in and play WvW due to the point differences. Now, I can’t wait to lead and have my airlines appear from no where to drop bombs and wipe everyone out.
