I suggest that users are allowed to change their display name.
With regards to the issue that it would be difficult for GW2 to track players, I suggest that GW2 give each player a unique ID which is irreplaceable. Using username as unique ID is a bad practice in my opinion.

Ex:
ID: 001293
Display Name: BigDy.2491

GW2 can also charge users if they want to change their Display Name. Some games already did this.

Other games have a unique ID for each player. I think using username as ID is not a good practice. In real life, a person can change his Name but he cannot change his fingerprint or DNA. GW2 can provide us unique ID (e.g. 1128849) and then a username (e.g. userUser.1981)

I noticed that a lot of people really wants to change their display name. We really hope that this feature would be implemented in the future. We’ve seen a lot of games who can do such thing and it would be lovely if our GW2 can do it too.
To cover up for the inconvenience, I suggest GW2 charge us. I am very willing to pay for a change of display name as our names/identity if very important for us. I know that any mistake we have made is our fault and that is why we are willing to pay.
