Ticket #606795

16 days since I last posted and saw the reply “in queue due for processing”. Some indication as to how long the queue is would be helpful. Us Brits are very good at queueing, but it is now nearly 2 months since my first ticket was submitted.

You are aware that GH fell badly as well and are now in the same boat as you.

As others have said as well. The reason FsP crawled points back that week was because the main 3am-11am Xaoc force we had left us. You guys earned the victory that week dont get me wrong but unless you guys lose a big guild we wont be making any big comebacks as we lack your coverage and primetime numbers FsP have.

Now that FsP arent focusing us as much im enjoying this matchup much more, im not too fussed how long we stay fighting each other as it seems overall we have a love hate relationship now lol.

Good luck everyone!

I do feel sorry for servers that become “projects” for major guilds/alliances, because FSP was probably the first “failed project” server. The NA servers are littered with failed project servers, and of course we now have Blacktide as the best example of a failed project.

GH has probably suffered from being another of xaoc’s failed projects (their 4th or 5th – I have lost count!).

FSP’s current numbers are nearly all home grown, recruited from the large PVE population we have always had. Maybe GH does not have the same sized pool to draw from. So I think FSP can claim we have achieved recovery without having to be a mega-guild’s flavour of the week project. Hopefully other servers that have suffered can use FSP as a model for recovery.

I have great respect for GH as you are proven tough fighters and regularly wipe us when we outnumber you, something we used to do on our slide down the rankings.

Good luck to you too!

It’s surprising a server like FSP are so low in the tiers considering the raw numbers they can field, to be honest.

The History of FSP is well documented in that we fell from 2nd to 22nd. I would not wish the pain we went through in the weeks we were in freefall on anyone. We have now risen from 22nd to 13th, with very few major new guilds coming in, compared to the number that left us when we were in T1.

Do we deserve to be any higher, could we survive in higher tiers? Who knows? We sometimes have the numbers and the skill to match, sometimes we don’t, but we will never measure our success by the number of loot bags we get.

It’s only a game.

If GH lost the fixation with “converting fsp into loot bags” and concentrated on taking keeps, they might be able to boast about coming back from being 18k behind on a Monday to being first by the Friday, like a FSP did a few weeks ago against a certain server.

Wonder which server that was?

Umm… you do know that drop rates have increased, so every one is getting more loot bags – I got 100 in 2 days compared to 100 in 2 weeks FWIW, so boasting about loot bags is irrelevant.

The scores are what matters – ummm…. FSP 84333, GH 66689 – treasure every loot bag you get if you think it is the best measure of performance!

Disconnects 7:11:3:189:101 since patch

Biganorak.2406

I do hope they resolve this – I have had this intermittent problem since BTW1, but have given up reporting it since release.

I think A-net’s problem is that there is no discernable, repeatable pattern for this error. I can play for 8 hours straight in one borderland, move to another to find good old 7:11 there waiting for me. Switch to another character and play for 8 hours straight with no problems.

Stay in the north of a map – no problems, go south – 7:11. Change character, stay in the south- no problem, go north – 7:11.

I have an average connection at the best of times, but something, somewhere is causing connections for different characters and different times and in different locations to become too fragile.

I really hope they find what this “something” is.

WvW prestige retrospective?

Biganorak.2406

I hope they do retroactively allocate prestige based on what players have achieved on their current server, so the players that have played on one server since day 1 are fully rewarded, and the server hoppers are therefore penalised for the annoyance they have caused to those for whom server loyalty means something.

I am pretty sure Far Shiverpeaks can claim to be a bandwagon-free server, as we were the first EU server to nose-dive 20 places in the rankings when the first round of server hopping started.

We have stabilised in Tier 7 and are on the verge of climbing to tier 6, although this could be stymied by the current GH/RoS/Vabbi/Xaoc/Russian Civil War going on.

The server has now found the level at which it can have the most fun from WvWvW, working on the priniciple " The winner is whoever has the most fun".

Will we get back to Tier1? – No, but we can have a lot of fun getting to Tier 5, possibly even tier 4 if more servers above us suffer from the server hoppers.

Your guild would be a perfect fit with our current strategy and tactics, as we have seen how effective roamer/zerg eaters can be. And we can offer the level of communication and coordination you are looking for – check www.farshiverpeaks.com

Although my original post has not achieved the objective of getting a major alliance to move to Far Shiverpeaks, in some ways this has been a blessing in disguise, as it has allowed the server to develop and evolve it’s tactics, coordination and communication. Numbers have stabilised and we now have queues in 3 of the 4 battlefields, compared to 2 when I made the original post.

It has been an honour and a privilege to see how this server has dealt with the worst excesses of server hopping, and to see that our ranking has moved up for the first time in 18 weeks. We have finally turned the corner. In the last 3 weeks WvW has been fun, which is what the game should be.

As server hopping is about to end, now really is the time to join a server that really is on the up. We still need to reinforce our off peak/night team and obviously we need to compete on all four maps if we are to make further progress.

From reading the forums, it looks like several other servers now face what Far Shiverpeaks has already gone through. You have my sympathy.

As a Far Shiverpeaks player and author of the “A Server’s Story” thread, I can fully empathise with the OP’s situation.

Personally, I am totally bemused by what the server-hopping guilds think they will achieve by moving down to lower tiers, taking a server into the top tier only to be frustrated by Vizunah Square’s superior strategy, tactics and organisation so that they start looking for scapegoats (Usually blaming the server for being too PVE focussed and not “hardcore” WvW), then move to yet another server, leaving the previous server faced with the long, painful descent back down the tiers, which Far Shiverpeaks was probably the first to have to deal with in the EU Tiers.

Taking the bottom 2 servers to the top Tier, only to leave them stranded when you can’t beat Vizunah Square is not the answer, it is painful for the servers that get hammered on the way up and it is heartbreaking when the server hoppers leave and the server plummets back down, as each server hammered on the way up takes it’s opportunity to inflict revenge with interest on the way back down.

One day, server loyalty will mean something and have some value. Those of us on Far Shiverpeaks who have been through it all now appreciate the value of server loyalty and count ourselves very fortunate.

It is important that we respect whatever reason guilds had for leaving. At the end of the day we are playing a game that we want to extract as much enjoyment from as we can, and we have to accept that “instant gratification” is more appealing than “long, hard slog” for many people.

Personally I have deep respect for those that have decided stay, especially as it is clear that we probably have further to fall and will therefore have an even tougher climb back up. I will also have a ton of respect for those players that return and/or join us to take on the challenge that faces us.

A Server's Story

Biganorak.2406

Hello everyone,

Let me tell you the history of Far Shiverpeaks, its current situation, its plans for the future and why you should join us before Arenanet start charging real money to switch servers.

In the Guild Wars 2 Beta events, when the WvWvW clock was reset every 24 hours, Far Shiverpeaks was very successful, and attracted many Scandinavian, North European and Russian-based guilds and alliances, so much so, at release, Far Shiverpeaks was one of the first to achieve “Full” status. As a result, we became victims of our own success, and faced 2-5 hour queues to get into WvWvW, which some guilds found frustrating. The queues also meant we could not organise an effective defence against Vizunah Square, who were clearly better organised, especially with their night capping strategy that took many on Far Shiverpeaks by surprise.

Despite these initial problems Far Shiverpeaks held the number 2 position behind Vizunah Square, and we became rightly proud of our ability to win a fight when we were outnumbered.

Far Shiverpeaks has always had a strong PVE population, and many guilds split their time between PVE and WvWvW. This caused a rift between the guilds that were very focused on WvWvW ( mostly Russian), and the guilds who were less focussed on WvW. Things came to a head at the Halloween event when the WvWvW guilds asked the others to send reinforcements to the battle grounds and they were told that they were too busy fighting Mad King Thorn! This was the final straw, and one of the major Alliances, Disorder League left the server.

This caused a snowball effect, and many other guilds and alliances left, and consequently Far Shiverpeaks fell from Tier 1 to Tier 4. Ironically it was in that week in Tier 4 that we finally got our night fighting team organised to the point that we achieved 100% map ownership and we got back into Tier 3, but unfortunately several other guilds had decided to leave so we fell straight back to Tier 4, and most likely will drop to Tier 5 this week.

At the moment we have a well-organised night – early morning crew, but at peak times we can still get queues for Eternal Battlegrounds and Far Shiverpeaks borderland, but not the other borderlands. Many PVE players have responded to our call to arms, and we are doing our best to train these raw recruits and turn them into battle-hardened veterans, but this will take time.

In many ways the history of Far Shiverpeaks server mirrors the history of Far Shiverpeaks in the original Guild Wars story, as it is the region where the Ascolonian refugees nearly lost it all – it is where Prince Rurik lost his life to help save his people – yet it is also where hope was born, an alliance made with the dwarves, and the escape into Kryta where the people could rebuild.

Well the current Far Shiverpeaks WvWvW players are those refugees. We are a small band of tough, determined fighters with leaders who can fight and win against overwhelming odds. We have a newly reformatted website: www.farshiverpeaks.com, and large public TS3 server. The server maintains a high PVE population so any guilds who have a large PVE membership will be able to ensure that their members will get plenty of PVE action when not having fun in the battlegrounds.

We are looking for tough and determined fighters individually and in guilds who will not quit when the going gets tough. We may not get back to Tier 1 in the near future, but Far Shiverpeaks will come back and make WvWvW history. If you want to be part of GW2 history and not a short-term glory hunter, we will welcome you with open arms.

TL; DR
Far Shiverpeaks is an EU server that has experienced the best and worst of times in WvWvW. But in the words of the song “I get knocked down, I get back up again, You ain’t ever going to keep me down”.

If you share the sentiments of the song come and join us in Far Shiverpeaks.

It’s only a game.

The thing that surprised me most about the way ANet handled the running of the one-off event, was that for a company that pretty much set the standard for using instances with GW1, they didn’t use instances to manage the timezone/lag/culling issues that were bound to occur in an open world, fixed-time event.

ANet could have used all the scavenger hunt and new dynamic events prior to the ultimate boss fight to allow players to acquire tickets to an ultimate boss fight instance, that players could enter once, at a time convenient to them.

Using an instance would also control the number of players and thereby improve graphic performance.

Having this unique instance available as a one-off with a 2-3 day window to use your entrance ticket might have been a better way to deal with managing the event. While the concept of overflow servers is a good one, it clearly was not the right option in this case.

The amount of server pride being demonstrated in these threads is admirable, what is less admirable is the whining about “unfair” strategies being used by the server that happens to be top. The rules and regulations on how points are scored and the times of play were known to everyone before the game launched.

Everything VS has done has been within the rules of the game, and they have executed their strategy very effectively. Other servers may be shell-shocked by this, but VS are not doing anything any other server could not do, it is therefore up to those servers to get their act together to do better than VS currently do it. Clearly many leaders on VS have studied Sun Tzu’s Art of War, and therefore fight the battles they know they can win and avoid the battles they know they will lose.

I am embarrassed by players representing FS in these threads: did Zulu warriors armed with pointy sticks and cowhide shields go crying on forums about how unfair it was for the redcoats to have rifles when they only had pointy sticks? No, they fought and died like the brave men they were, but you know what?; they actually beat the men with rifles a few times.

So my plea to players wanting to represent FS on forums, is to give VS credit for what they have achieved, and then knuckle down to find ways to beat them.

15min VP checkpoints is clearly a step in the right direction. If Anet were to take the next step, which would be to have hourly, “Off peak” VP checkpoints between the hours of 2.00am and 6.00am GMT, this would make the overnight capping strategy less attractive than it is at the moment.

I am on FS and I am embarrassed by all this whining about Franch Canadian 24/7 guilds etc. All is fair in love and war, and if having the no.1 server accolade is so important to FS, then fight fire with fire and invite English speaking Canadian guilds to join the server.

I for one will be happy when all the whiners leave so I don’t have to queue for 5+ hours and can take the fight to VS and whoever else makes it into the top 3. There are 15 other servers that would kill (digitally not literally) to be where Far Shiverpeaks is now.

I am on Far Shiverpeaks, and have nothing but admiration for the skill and organisation that Vizunah Square show especially with their spoiling attacks from flank and rear when we are capping towers and keeps. It is annoying as hell but very effective, so we need to learn how to do it better than Vizunah Square currently do it.

Whining about French Canadian 24/7 guilds will not get Far Shiverpeaks to the top of the rankings, only being better than Vizanuh Square will achieve that.

P.S. Can all those on Far Shiverpeaks who want to give up, please leave now so those who want to take the fight to Vizanuh Square are not queueing for hours on end.

I really do not see the issue if ANet have overflow server technology working to a reasonable degree to cope with the supply/demand issues on the normal world servers, that the same cannot be applied to WvW.

How can it be a problem to keep setting up additional borderland maps, if the demand for places in borderland maps exceeds the available space? The number of points available to each server is the same, and each contributes to a points total that measures relative performance. The total number of points earned is irrelevant when determining first second and third in a two week match.

If the population of overflow borderland maps goes below a set threshold, then the map can be closed down and/or players be given the option to queue for the next available map, so the overflow maps can increase/decrease in line with demand.

As I understand it, this would not prevent people queueing for eternal battlegrounds, which probably should not be cloned for overflow purposes, to keep the capture and holding of Stonemist as a VP multiplier. Obviously a larger number of overflow borderlands would reduce it’s current value, so maybe the value of Stonemist could be increased pro-rata to the number of borderland maps active at any one time.

Just my 2c.
