@ Xylum – Very well said, thats exactly how I feel as well, the expansion being shown to me just isn’t $50 worth of content, I paid $150 for the CE of the original game and I got my money out of it for sure but this… meh
My feedback has always been that I think the expansion is overpriced by about $20 I think it should be $30 and come with a char slot. I would pay $40 though because I really love the game, but the fact of the matter is that the expansion doesnt offer enough content for $50 compared to what I can buy else where. For $10 more I can buy Fallout 4. The news hasnt convinced me that for $50 I will get even half of the content of Fallout 4 so why should I pay that.
I just want to say that I am really excited for the changes coming next week, I’m really excited to see the new Lions Arch, I’m hopeful that the personal story in HoTs will focus more on MY character and less on NPC stories, I’m excited for huge open maps and interesting lore.
I’ve definitely gotten my money out of GW2 and I bought the $150 collectors edition, I told everyone I know about this game before it was in beta because I loved GW1 when I played that in beta.
But I feel like anet really messed up an opportunity here. I have purchased gems, I bought the collectors edition, I believe in the game, I believe in the people who made the game. I can honestly say that anet is one of the only AAA developers left that still have my trust. Which is why this feels even worse. I understand how much work you guys put into this game, I’m a programmer too. But you guys must realize that most of the features people are truly excited about gameplay wise are coming out in a week in the normal game. The other features like the open world jungle maps, the one new pvp map, the one new wvw map and the single new class are just not worth the price that you are asking.
I feel like I am being asked to pay more for the expansion to pay for the system improvements you guys have been doing for the core game, that stuff should be free; it isn’t a selling point. It’s an obligation to keep the game fresh and current. You guys created an MMO without the gear treadmill so in order to keep people playing you have to deliver REAL content. Which you guys have been doing remarkably well for 3 years now.
As a loyal supporter of this game I feel let down, I feel like I am not valued. This isn’t even about new players getting a free game, I just don’t feel like you guys should have released the expansion without giving us at least 1 free character slot. I feel like there should have been a physical collectors edition so I could support you guys by buying that again. I feel like you guys are charging $20 more than an expansion of this size should cost.
Many games have a free to play model now, while it is still a strong selling point there is real competition on the market now. I think you guys should have a talk with your marketing team about how important player loyalty is and you should treat us like we are important. Me and others like me help to pay your salaries, and in return you guys give us hundreds of hours of fun. For that you have my gratitude and my respect.
But please Anet, you can do better.
