I’ve been searching around and reading a lot about Guardians lately. I’ve been level 80 for a little while now and I am just now starting to realize that you need to be very dynamic and reactive with your skills and weapons whilst in combat.

To be successful in combat, there are a lot of aspects to your profession that you need to consider if you plan to beat your opponents every time! All of which include the dynamic – shouts, boons, retaliation, symbols, virtues, consecrations, and passive trait abilities… Not to forget, now you need to also think about being reactive – dodging, converting conditions into boons while also unleashing damage to foes, “Oh! Here comes more mobs!”, weapon swapping, protective bubbles, healing, blocking (aegis), retaliation, etc.

There is just so much to account for when using a Guardian in combat… the bigger question (or questions) is/are – when, how, where (targeted abilities), and in what situations do you use which abilities and why? Is there a rotation? Is there a bonus when you use certain abilities before others? What stacks up on what?

I am no “Guardian-pro” at the least… I would like to hear from other fellow Guardians about their combat strategy and rotation.

Let’s use a template so we don’t get this thread mistaken for a Guardian build or profession guide.

  • What’s your build?
    1. 1-on-1 combat (weapon use, ability rotation, utility use)
    2. Multiple opponents (weapon use, ability rotation, utility use)
    3. Reasoning for your strategy.
    4. Where do you incorporate dodging into your “dance routine”?
    5. Personal advice or tips about Guardians you would like to share.

Crab Toss: Forcing PvP for a reward is wrong IMO! [Merged]

Honestly, after dedicating my entire game time last night in the crab toss ring, I can relate to the author’s frustration… HOWEVER, I do not believe it’s necessarily a frustration towards the fact that it’s a PvP styled achievement in a PvE category… I believe that it’s more of a frustration towards the nature and difficulty in achieving the “Crabgrabber” and “Crab Toss Champion” title in general.

Don’t get me wrong, it can be very difficult to achieve, especially when you encounter lag and you are getting “crab-rolled” relentlessly and kicked and thrown around the ring with a fishing pole attached to your every side. Eventually, I got so upset that I found myself giving up on going for the crab and started beating up the players instead!

After getting my frustration out, I finally buckled down and tried my hardest… I kept failing, then failing again, and even ended a few matches with 0 points!!! It was killing me!

FINALLY, I was able to win the match and was granted my title. This might have been one of those achievements where I actually felt like I earned it and it felt great to win! As a plus, after so many attempts, I was able to achieve my other Crab Toss achievements as well!

In my honest opinion, I believe all achievements – especially those that reward a title – should be exactly like this. You should feel accomplished and well deserved of that achievement once completed. It’s authentic and keeps you striving for excellence!

I don’t believe it should be categorized as PvP or excluded from the Southsun achievement line… It is a part of the SoS events as a monthly “special event” in the game! It’s like a bar fight… Bars aren’t meant for fighting – but for drinking! However, fighting is definitely an inevitable possibility.

Enjoy yourself and work hard towards those difficult achievements! It’s okay to get frustrated sometimes…
