Same Issue, talked to Tixx, did not receive gifts in inventory in overflow, I have 30 open slots of inventory space. However I’m glad you guys are working on a fix

I don’t know if this is useful but here is exactly what I did (its hard to fix a bug if you cant reproduce it right?)

Logged on for the first time today after 6:30pm PST
Selected the last character I logged out with, that logged out inside LA. (inside bank)
Loaded up in an overflow server.
Opened bank, moved stuff around to organize…
Guild mate told me that Tixx was handing out gifts via Skype.
Ran over from the mystic forge to Tixx and spoke with him.
Chat box opened up.
Selected the accept gift icon. (I clicked it fast because I was overly excited for gifts!)
[Maybe I clicked it before the chat box was finished loading?]
Chat box closed, opened inventory (which was not compacted and had random open slots from past used consumables)
Gifts were not found inside inventory.

Don’t know if that helps, sorry for the long post.

No I am able to play fine for hours and then boom starts having problems. I’ve read on another feed that someone else was having problems with guild wars games only. But as far as the system is concerned there should be non problem its an Asus G73S i7 with 8gb ram and a nvidia gtx 460m video card with 1 gb of ram on card. I play for hours on Star Wars online and have no problems at all. So I’m pretty sure its a Guild Wars 2 game problem. And as far as the temperature the gpu was running fine at 147 fahrenheit so nothing bad at all.

I own the Asus G74JW-1A laptop for use when I travel and shut downs were constant throughout the Beta Weekends, however due to continues optimizations from the Dev team at Anet I will say they have come a long way. Much further than any other game at this stage.

Here is the issue, the laptop overheats and it auto shuts down. Here is what I found out that works in preventing shut downs during all of the beta weekends and this past weekend.

Step 1. Turn Turbo Boost OFF! GW2 is not fully optimized to handled overclocked systems and in this case of this laptop it doesn’t do a very good job at all. It overworks your CPU into overheating. Turning off turbo boost makes it more stable for the client to handle, its like if your driving a car always in the red at 8K RPM while only going 30 MPH.. So turn it off, you shouldn’t notice any performance decrease.

Step 2. I know you love your graphics settings but turn them down. For me, when I put all my settings on high, doesn’t matter what I am doing, my laptop will shut off. Try auto detect first, and if not, try turning your shaders, post processor and shadow settings down first. These I find are the most taxing on the GTX 640M GPU for my laptop. If that does not work turn down other settings, even on low, the game looks amazing, but there is no need to go so far as to subsample…

(for me after I did these things, my temps were around 75C which sounds high but really is not for this laptop and I ran the game for several hours afterwards last weekend)

Step 3. If your having more issues after all of this, I would suggest cleaning out your system of dust. There are tons of step by step tutorials on youtube for this specific laptop. I would suggest taking a look the different methods and choosing what you are comfortable doing so you don’t cause any damage to your laptop.

Extra Tips
Having a clear desk space around your laptop helps with airflow, as the air is pushed out of the back of your laptop like a dual exhaust system. Make sure there is plenty of room behind your laptop as well because it does you no good if that hot air recirculates back into your computer.

Make sure you are in a cool environment. Ventilate the room by keeping a door open or turn on a fan, open a window if its cold outside.

If you are really desperate you can turn on the air conditioning. This however is just not really advisable as AC is expensive and possibly not as effective as steps 1 or 2 also it probably wont do much if you are only lowering the room temperature by a few degrees.

Steps 1 and 2 should at this point, give you the most benefit. Step 3 will help if steps 1 and 2 did not solve your issues, and the rest is just whatever craziness I did so I could play the BWEs while I was playing on my laptop.

I can say for the last few months my laptops average shut downs have drastically been reduced and last weekend It only shut down once when I decided to crank my graphical settings to high/max.
