When i go to forums i see tons of builds, but loads of them are nearly a year old or have been voted down in all the comments.
Now that i recently started doing SPvP (not WvW yet, don’t have any guild yet either).
I have never done dungeons before, I don’t really know anybody in game to do em with.
But i’m looking for a build that might improve my play in SPvP.
I’m kind of a tank player, charge in the front lines and don’t leave until i’m low as hell.
For leveling i’ve been mainly using greatsword, but I’m willing to change that if you think i might get a more dps/survivability ratio.
Tl;dr: Need up to date build with high survivability for front line fighting in Spvp & preferably some nice dps on it since i’m a soloplayer.
but in group their are better choices.
Thanks for your quick reply.
And not to completely discard necro, because I will play it as I like the mechanic & idea behind it.
But if i were to search for a (long)ranged DPS profession for group pvp & dungeons. Which would you suggest? I’m guessing for caster an elementalist?

I recently started playing guildwars 2 (never played the first), I leveled up a guardian to 80… explored the map 100%, finished storyline and that’s about all the experience I have in guild wars 2.
I have no guild (yet) to ask questions, never did dungeons before and I got no clue which armors are better or how to craft. So basicly… I’m a big newbie when it comes to guildwars and I have no guidance. Which is why I’m here.
I tried out guardian.. and it seems fun. But i wanted to play a bit more of a caster-profession. I’ve always been fascinated by all the cool and special effects. So my first thought was to make an elementalist, but as I see my playstyle…. I tend to jump in the fray, head first. And that’ll probably get me killed as an elementalist.
But the necromancer, he’s got a nice healthpool and some “tankiness” to him as I’ve read the skill descriptions. + that deathshroud seems like a real lifesaver. And who doesn’t like to be an evil kind of sorcerer?
Now, I know there are different kind of builds and setups and whatever and read some, but I have no clue what they all mean cuz i’m too new I guess.
So I have a few questions I hope you guys could answer.
1) Is the necromancer viable?
No i don’t mean… is it a OP class that will roflstomp everything i see. But I mean, does the necromancer add any value to a dungeon party or WvW, because eventually I hope to do some of the group/guild stuff without being completely useless while my team carries me. Is his damage / survivability ratio’s strong etc.
2) I plan on rolling an asura necro, how will this affect me? Which slotskills should I use? Or do you suggest me to play another race?
3) As a new guy, which traits should I focus on? And which skills should i select from the traitlists.
4) What stats should i look for on armor that I buy?
5) Which weapon(s) should I use?
If anybody could take the time to answer these questions for me and more importantly tell me WHY, so I can get a better understanding of the profession and the game, I’d be very very grateful!
And I’m sure there are more newbies out there that could use your help!
tl;dr
I’m fairly new to the game and want to try out necromancer.
I’d like some basic answers to the 5 questions above, because I don’t understand the posted builds and please explain why so I can understand your response and learn from it.
I recently started playing guild wars 2…
And after some research I found either guardian or necro would fit my playstyle.
(Tanky / High hp & survivability / still some magic to them)
Played necro to lvl 25 and i kinda got tired of it, not because the class is boring but i got tired of looking on a sylvari.
So i wanted to try something new and made a human guardian.
Now I have a few questions…
1) Which weapons are best to use?
2) What traits should i focus on?
3) Where do i get new gear? I noticed you can get some from the main quest, but are there other ways/places to get new or better gear?
Thanks for any help you can give me!
Edit:
I’m a low level… no need to tell me about lvl 80 gear or such.
I’m more than happy with the nooby advice

So I bought this game around the week it got released and played it only up till lvl 19…
I didn’t really found it all that intresting but i’m concidering to give it another chance.
I’m just not sure which class to play and how to find a matching race.
Which is one of the reasons, why I found it hard to get going the first time i tried.
(Sidenote: I never played Guild wars 1)
If i look around at the classes that interest me i see:
Elementalist – I’ve always found mages cool classes with their nice animations and high damage. Altho I hate how vulnerable they are. But to me, it seems they are very hard to master (switching between weapons / elements / …)
Guardian – I enjoy playing the support/healer/tank… Yet everywhere i look I hear complaints of low damage and warrior being the better choice?
Necromancer – They seem very appealing to me, they have the high survivability (due to high hp pool) and still the “mage”-like skills. This is also the class i played up till lvl 19 the first time around.
Thief – In games like Hitman I always try to keep the stealthed mode going. Quick & clean kills, in and out before they know etc. It seems a really fun class.
Now i’m looking for some player opinions on how the 4 above classes are for new players. (are they hard to master / how useful are they in pve and in pvp? / do they have any chance of getting picked up by guilds or are the servers already too full with them / how do i pick the most optimal race for these classes?)
Sorry for the long wall of text.
If you do manage to read through it and reply, thanks in advance!
you are really helping me out
