Ranger is by far the worst class/profession in the game, other than solo pve. I purposely hunt them down as easy prey on all my toons to compensate for my loses to other classes/professions. Sad, but true.
Elaina Eldee is the greatest Edge Of The Mists commander I have ever seen. The other day we went the entire match without one zerg v zerg and we were capturing keeps non-stop. We were also getting scout calls every 10 minutes about our keep flipping and he kept ignoring the calls and letting our keep flip. This was when I knew that he was something special. I earned more karma from 15 minutes in Elaina’s zerg than I have ever earned in any dungeon instance ever. I’m working on crafting my 17th legendary and I hope he keeps commanding so that I can get enough karma to craft it.
I agree. I see this person lead a lot and always does a very good job. (No, I am not in the same guild).
I wish you had to earn your way to be a Mist Commander though. Paying for privilege to lead is wrong.
If you want rdps, role an Elementalist. Nobody wants Rangers for anything anyway. I constantly have to switch over to another profession/class from my Ranger for WvW and PvE.
I completely agree with OP. I wish they would include an extra character slot to play the new profession. I don’t want to delete an existing character from the five that I have.
You can say that I can just buy the extra character slot, but the excitement about the new expansion is the extra content and the new profession. It feels like ANet is not providing you the ability to enjoy the game completely with the standard edition that does not provide the extra character slot. It feels under-handed.
If Ranger is ineffectively as pure ranged dps, or isn’t made for ranged dps, what class should I play then? Elementalist?
You are not being kicked for being A ranger you are being kicked for playing a subpar build. You dont see warriors playing with rifles, thieves with double pistols, staff mesmers in any decent group. Longbow is BAD to camp in PVE because it deals subpar damage in melee and if you slit from the group for max damage it will cause mobs to run all over the place. In addition to no cleave and poor sustained AoE it will make fights take longer. Any decent ranger will use his bow to stack vulnerability then switch to sword/ x or GS and help the group instead of being a hindrance.
That’s my point. I wish Ranger was played as range dps and not forced into playing melee. Guess I’ll just play Staff Elementalist.

Rangers with bows are often kicked from PvE group content. There are guild runs and friend groups that will take Ranger, yes, but other classes are preferred because they can do what Rangers can plus bring group benefits/buffs that put them ahead of Rangers.
I’ve found this frustrating because I play my Ranger for “ranged” gameplay. If I want to melee, I’ll play my warrior, who brings banners and shouts and more survivability.
I hope Druid will alleviate the problem Rangers have with PvE group content.
When are we going to get some more info a Druids or are we just going to get more and more info on Revenants?
I’m returning to GW2 after a year break. I’m starting from scratch on the Sea of Sorrows server. Looking for a friendly, mature guild, that’s active in PvE, and to lesser degree even PvP. I’m looking for a guild that active groups together for dungeons/raids/etc. I plan on playing Warrior and a range (Ranger or Elementalist)
About me: 30+ years old. Active duty military, married w/kids. GW1 was my first MMO about 10 years ago and have played MMOs since.
