Greetings all!
To celebrate first person camera being here, I decided to make this fun video!
Hope you all enjoy it

The silent treatment we have been receiving on town clothing is pretty disgusting at this point, and might indicate that nothing will be done about this.
Sadly it seems like we are being thrown by typical business practice here. They designed the new system to be more new user friendly and town clothing was in the way, so they did what they could with the new system to set it up, which meant destroying a town clothing system that fully worked.
After the system was completed and they saw the backlash on the forums when they announced the end of town clothing, they calculated what is going to cost them more money….
Obviously refunding town clothing to those that do not like the new system was cheaper and that seems to be it for town clothing.
ArenaNet can surprise me and do something nice, but at this point I do not hold much hope anymore. This has sadly also shown me that my hopes of seeing Houses and Guild Halls is sadly just that, hopes.
Sadly the Town Clothing situation in this update has been a big disappointment for me.
A tonic that is on a 15 minute timer with no dye – or mix & match options… usually updates is meant to improve the system, not take away a feature that a good portion of your community enjoyed.
Looking at all the screenshots that was posted about people mix and matching their outfits and stating the reason why they enjoy it, I am really surprised the team behind this still decided to go through with this specific change, or at least let everyone know if there are future plans instead of telling people that their gems will be refunded if they don’t like it.
I am hoping that we will see some improvements to this change in the near future.
This is something I would like to see someday and has been asking for since more than a year ago.
I don’t see much use for it in combat, but for scenery, screenshots and machinima, yes! Anet created a beautiful world… and half of the time you can’t really just look at it cause your character is in the way.
Well, about a year ago I posted the suggestion of a gadget that allows you first person view. Kinda like a steam punk camera.
If they made it kind of an out-of-body camera view, they didn’t really need to worry to much about armor and so messing things up, but people will still get to look at stuff and take pictures/video.
I do agree though that I can’t see playing the game in general like that, which is fine, I would just like it for the views
I am not sure what the latest news is about this, but I still would like to see it in the game.
About a year ago there was a lot of talk here in the forums from players that would like to see it in the game (myself included), but as far as I know, no one ever got a dev response.
I think we would have seen a lot more screenshots and machinima this last year by players if we had first person camera.
Heya Rio,
Are you by any chance in Canada with Shaw ISP? There is some problems currently with some games and sites being affected. The ones I know of so far seems to be GW2, LoL, Twitch and Steam Community pages.
Haha LOVE the commercial! Well done to the cinematics department and extra kudos for making it low resolution and 4:3 aspect ratio
Smart move for an awesome event!
Thanks for the spoiler alerts, everyone. Even glancing at the title of the thread implies that Tybalt dies. Could you change it, please? Not all of us are at that point in the story… >_>
I agree!
It was totally fun! This was a real challenge and is one of those where you muscle memory kicks in like the old games
Took me a bit to get it done, but that last set of jumps, including the final one, I did in one go. I think the adrenaline just kicked in and and I jumped and reacted like crazy, shouting and cheering when I reached the end hahaha
This is one of those things where you try more and more and feels so good when you reach the end.
Thanks ANet for an awesome jumping puzzle!
Asura – Engineer
No Speed Boost
Wooohoo!
Can’t say I agree with this, the events really make the game. Oh how fun the dance parties was usually during the events in Guild Wars 1.
Yes there is things to be fixed, but ill rather want an event where I can hang out with friends and enjoy random stuff while waiting for stuff to be fixed, than sitting watching Moa birds all day.
A lot of people have been requesting first person view, me being one of them. Other than the fact that it would be nice to see your surrounding world with it, I am especially interested in the fact that first person view gives you better camera control for screenshots and machinima.
One problem I can see with first person view is that it might make jumping puzzles a bit easier (I’m sure not everyone agrees that it is a problem). The whole “can’t see where I am jumping” with branches in your eyes and having to aim with your character size to jump just right makes it even more challenging. I am sure there is more reasons than this why ArenaNet haven’t added it.
So I was thinking, why not make a craftable gadget for first person view… almost like a steampunk camera. ArenaNet loves to add random things for us to pick up like bottles, shovels, etc, so why not have a gadget that you can use, giving you first person view. It doesn’t necessarily have to be placed down like a turret, it can just be an inventory item too.
Now this can then be limited too based a certain range from where you activated i or no jumping allowed, etc. This way, people can use it in small caves to look around, but it can’t be used to progress game wise. It also makes it great then for machinima filming and screenshots.
I’ll be more than happy with just normal first person view being added too, just thought ill suggest it and this will be handy especially if ArenaNet want to limit what can be done in first person view… and it is kinda lore-friendly
I agree with most people here that I think the fact that you die and the frustration with that is what really makes these puzzles difficult and as good as they are.
If it was as easy as jumping and never dying, starting back at a checkpoint each time, you determination and fear of falling decrease greatly, making the puzzkitten ring.
Some of the best games have a high death penalty, as you do everything you can to not die, where a game that has low to no death penalty, you will easily run into a gun battle without thinking twice. At the moment these jumping puzzles are like the former, making you think twice before attempting a jump.
Just throwing my thoughts in here too.
I would also really love to have first person view, especially when it comes to machinima and screenshots.
I really love taking screenshots in the game, but at the moment I am limited to always having my character in the shot or use a vista which obviously do not have all the locations you might like.
Machinima is also limited to anything with your characters in it, so no way of really making story based machinima with other people in the game or anything where a few people have to be filmed. I remember these great machinima from Guild Wars 1 with Wintersday parties and dances in Lion’s Arch…. with the current system for Guild Wars 2, you can forget about making anything decent without the camera only swirling around you, where with first person view you can be the camera man filming it.
I also agree with people with small spaces and it becoming hard to see. One jumping puzzle I really just wanted to look around me, take in the scenery, but since it is a small space I’m standing against, my characters head is mostly in the way.
Now one problem I can see with first person is jumping puzzles becoming easier. It is much easier to aim while in first person, so some of those challenging puzzles will go to waste. Now this is only my opinion, but I have noticed in most games that if I need to aim and jump to a specific spot, first person view is the easiest way to go.
Would be really awesome if ArenaNet can figure this out and add it to the game.
Decided to write a blog post about Guild Wars 2 and my thoughts about it.
This is one long post though, but it is filled with pretty pictures and videos hehe.

Thank you for creating a game that is fun and exciting;
-A game that makes an explorers blood pumping;
-Tasks and events that is fun and exciting;
-The surprise when I listen to NPC’s talking and an event suddenly starts, throwing me in an adventure or massive battle;
-Going that extra mile by adding stuff like the small detail in animations that makes it perfect, making NPC’s feel alive, cities feeling actually like cities, spooky swamps make you miss the sun and so much more;
-For jumping puzzles that are fun and challenging;
-Combat that is very fun and rely more on you moving, dodging and being smart.
-Last but not least, thank you for working so hard after the launch to get everything as smooth as possible for everyone.
Thank you to everyone at ArenaNet and anyone else involved with this game for making Guild Wars 2 my favorite MMO!
What self-respecting Asura doesn’t have his universal multi-tool on hand at all times??
Kidding aside, that’s a great job of matching up to your character. Well done!
Ah but I am a user of the Panscopic Monocle which is disguised as my glasses !
:D Thanks!
Had an oppertunity to dress up in a costume, so decided to with an Asura
Ears didn’t come out “GREAT”, but it did the job, especially with the compare pictures!
Drank all the potions due to the infamous fire elemental and the fan is for my Golem :P
