Thanks for the responses team – much appreciated.
I’ve got no UAC’s as I’m the only user and I admin by default.
Also, I never got the screen where I could select a location to download GW2 into.
It’s quite an odd issue and it’s come up in the past with other programs as well – namely Adobe Reader.
The problem has been fixed by simply inserting a USB drive and mapping it to Drive E:
By way of background, all my non-system files use to be on Drive E.
I did a bit of jigging around a year ago and changed it to Drive D.
Having done a bit of Googling around – I found a suggested Reg fixes and I manually updated that, but it didn’t fix the problem – Adobe Reader (and I suspect the Guild Wars install) still wasn’t able to find Drive E – I’m sure that mapping is somewhere in my reg.
Anyway, someone suggested tos imply put in a USB key and map it to drive E.
I did that and both GW2 and Adobe Reader installed without a hitch.
Tech support – maybe this is something to address in the coding
I have no idea if its an easy fix but I’m pretty sure there is a similarity with the Drive ‘location’ Adobe Reader Installer was looking for and the location GW2setup was looking for.
Hope that helps other people

I’m running Win 7 64 bit, all service packs up to date, graphics card drivers are up to date as well.
Thanks

Hi team,
I’ve just bought the game via the website and have downloaded Gw2Setup.exe
When I run the program, it immediately gives me the error
“Guild Wars 2 is unable to access its archive file Local.dat. Please verify that the file is available…”
Ironic given that file doesn’t exist on the computer and I haven’t touched the beta etc.
I’ve tried the suggestions in other threads such as disabling all the msconfig things (inc antivirus) but that has yielded nothing. I’ve tried getting a GameAdvisor log but GameAdvisor won’t install and gives me a 0xc0000005 error upon running the file.
Any help that could be provided would be much appreciated
