Only thing i’m blaming Anet for at this point is not communicating more with their customers about this. Even if they cannot fix the problem, let us know you are doing/have done research about what is actually going on and communicate that to us. A post 3 days ago that says “Not our fault, call verizon, try Google DNS” is not sufficient communication with your customers.

Xerol (above) presents the most detailed and in my mind the most likely cause of the problem at this point.

If this is in fact an issue likely to affect a large portion of the East Coast US Guild Wars player-base it warrants regular communication.

We have all heard the old saying in business: “Take care of your customers… or someone else will.”

Unless I have missed something the last time we had an official response was 2 days ago when it was suggested that this was probably a Verizon DNS problem. It was suggested that we contact Verizon customer service and a work-around involving google DNS server was proposed.

Since this red post I have been back and forth in email with Anet tech support pasting nslookup results from command prompt.

I was on the phone last night for over an hour with Verizon, working all the way up to a FIOS tech support supervisor (the next step is a verizon network engineer but they dont talk to customers). The supervisor was helpful but I couldnt give him enough information to conduct the kind of checks he wanted to do. (BTW why do I have to be the one to talk to verizon tech support people when the problem is between you and them and I dont have all the information to help them correct the problem anyway?)

I performed the change to the Google DNS server as suggested in the official response and the same problem persists: My game client connects to the arenanet servers and starts the download. Then after a short time, the download speed gradually drops to zero and the download fails.

We are coming up on a holiday weekend and anew WvW season has started… alot of us would really like to play this game we didnt have any trouble playing until the most recent patch.

Its very poor form to shove all the blame onto my ISP and then remain silent. An update would be most welcome.

This is one of many reasons a customer shouldnt have to “fix” a problem that is keeping them from playing the game.

FIOS issues vs. early patch today?

How can this be a DNS problem if the game client connects the the arenanet servers, starts the download, then drops connection speed down to zero and quits? This is a serious question not just argumentative.

Because honestly, I feel like im stuck between Anet and Verizon both pointing fingers at each other.

And yes I did make the change to google DNS. Still the same problem.

Any update on this would be nice.

Im still having this problem and havent been able to play the game for going on three days now.

Yes I know there is a work-around but that doesnt really get to the problem and fix it.

Was on the phone with Verizon for over an hour last night, got all the way up the foodchain to a tech support supervisor. He was very helpful. We pinged the Anet server IP and got a good report. He asked me to then ping the web address the client uses to connect to Anet servers to see if the verizon DNS servers resolve the web address correctly. I could not do that because I dont know what web address the client uses. He told me to try to find out what web address the client uses. If I cant ping that successfully through verizon DNS servers then we know there is an issue with their DNS server… in which case he told me he could get an engineer to fix their DNS tables.

So Anet… have you found something wrong on your end? If not, please provide the info asked for above so I can keep working with Verizon.

Thanks!

Black Screen when launching game

I read the stickied topic about black screen issues. Anti-aliasing settings are as recommended in that post.

I go to launch the game and the screen goes black and blinks on and off with a blue window header across the top of the screen with the guild wars 2 name and logo on it. This locks up my computer most times requiring a hard re-boot. On a rare occassion the game actually loads up properly after a 6-10 second black screen.

This is a new occurance, so im assuming one of the recent game updates is causing it. Im wondering if anyone else is having this issue… any known solutions?

Thanks in advance.

“my question to you is… why?”

Surely you jest.

First of all, fishing… yes even virtual fishing, is alot of fun. I had alot of fun fishing in that other MMO thats been out for about eight years. And unless im mistaken, two of the most popular MMOs in the last five years have some sort of fishing mini-game (WoW & LOTRO). In fact, it can be such a popular little past-time there are rather successful websites dedicated to fishing in MMOs.

On a more serious note… ill be surprised if the idea of fishing hasnt been kicked around by the developers of this game already. I dont think a majority of MMO fans are big on fishing but there is a not-insubstantial minority who really enjoy it. I will continue to play the game fishing or not, but I started the thread because I think its a fun suggestion. =D

First of all… kudos to the folks at Arena Net for creating such a great game. Im enjoying it immensely and im going to keep buying gem cards to support your ongoing efforts.

Now… to the topic at hand.

Why in such a wonderful casual friendly game with so many amazing features can we not find a nice shady place next to a river or stream and drown worms?

I bet the Azura could come up with a mean fishing lure.

I hope fishing is at least on your “to do” list. =)
