Losing Pip for Winning???!!

I’ve had two games now where a team mate DC’d and loggged back in before our team won. Both of those games resulted in a Pip-Loss. Frankly, punishing an entire team because of a disconnect is terrible. I understand that you might be doing this to try to prevent abuse of the system, but you’re hurting people who actually pull through a 4v5.

Please, fix this nonsense.

Ideals For Resolving Balance In Disconnects

Hello,

Firstly, I’ve been playing sPvP for quite some time (I have achieved dragon-rank and have the champion titles on 6/8 classes).

One of the biggest issues currently with sPvP is getting into a match where a team mate disconnects before or during a match creating an imbalance between the two teams. This can often result in immense frustration.

I propose the following system:

When a team loses a member and displays only 4v5 there should be logic similar to the hotjoin’s auto-balance. The team with more players can ‘volunteer’ to take an observer position in the match. They will still be rewarded according to the outcome of their team as if they had played the entire match.

If the other player should manage to reconnect, the person in the observer position can respawn (automatically and/or manually) to their appropriate team.

I believe this would grant much fairer matches. Albeit, there will be unfairness in the 15-20 seconds where the ‘I Volunteer/I’ll Take My Chances’ votes are being cast, but it will be a small window compared to going through the entire game with unfair teams.

One possible way to abuse this system would be to purposefully log off in order to force someone into an observer slot. This could obviously be an issue because say you were downed at home and there was a fair fight somewhere in the map. You decide to log off and within 20 seconds, someone from the other team is yanked from the map. To prevent this, you could place a counter on the number of disconnects during a fight (say limit it to 2, and this counter would only begin counting after the match has started so that pre-game group composition can still be evaluated). Should someone disconnect twice during a match, they will be forced into an observer role upon entering the match. While this could potentially have issues for those seeking to abuse the system, (as it would then trigger the auto-balance and bring the game down from a 5v5 to a 4v4) I believe the benefits would out-weigh the costs.

The only remaining issue would be the (hopefully) rare event where people from both teams attempt to troll one another (i.e., purposefully logging out to decrement the other team until everyone was forced into an observer slot, causing the game to stall until time is called). This could lead to issues where teams with a generous lead (say 100-points) all log out. If the opposing team can’t make up the point difference in the time it takes for everyone to be forced into an observer slot, the other team has effectively stolen a win (even if they could have made a comeback.)

In the above case I would suggest awarding nothing for games with 0 players. There may be better solutions, but I fail to think of any at the time of writing this.

At the very least, I hope this will give some of you a few good ideals to toy with.

Please let me know your thoughts.

Argh. So this achievement wasn’t fixed with the April Feature Pack? I know it wasn’t in the notes, but I was hoping it was going to be a stealth fix.

ANET, pretty please…. Fix this achievement.

I feel you, Zilent. This is the last achievement I need out of the FotM tab, also. Hopefully small things like this won’t be forgotten forever.

"Shockwave Skipper" Why is this still bugged?

I can confirm. I just completed a flawless (no damaged taken, all shockwaves jumped over, no firestorm damage taken) and did not receive credit for the achievement. Can we at least receive some acknowledgement that this will be fixed at some point in the future?

That is unfortunate! This has been broken for quite some time, then. I know it’s extremely low priority, but could we get any word as to whether this issue is on the radar?

Has anyone been able to earn this achievement within the last month or so? I read on the wiki that this achievement was bugged and wanted to know if it was currently achievable. I had made some posts about it a few months back, along with several others. However, I am looking to try for the achievement again.

If you did receive the achievement and the memory of doing so is fresh in your head, when did you actually receive credit for it? Was it after the first boss died, or the second? Did you have to actively dodge/jump-over every single wave, or did you just avoid them all?

Thank you in advance!

I just finished a run with absolutely no damaged taken (all avoided by staying out of range). I did not receive the achievement. I will post again when I have dodged/jumped at least one wave with the results.

Just for informational purposes:
Firestorm killed first
All attacks completely avoided — No damage taken (nothing dodged/jumped, however)
I did not spawn any clones (my class is a mesmer — I have to avoid spawning clones as when they’re hit it counts as though I’m hit)

If anyone has achieved this within the last few days sees this post, or anyone trying to get it knows someone who has, please direct them to this post so that we may better identify the conditions for achieving this.

Some questions I would like to know:

When is the achievement awarded: After zerker dies (if first)/Immediately after second boss dies/After the ready panel displays

Did you have to dodge/jump a shockwave or did you completely avoid it?

I’ll gladly help with this. A friend of mine and myself are determined to identify the conditions to earn this achievement. Zaxares, if you are interested, friend me and message me in-game.

I have been working to earn this achievement, also. I have spoken with several individuals who have achieved it, and the only thing they seem to have in common is that they killed the dredge first, meaning that the berzerker was upgraded. Now, I have tried both ways, and I have completely stayed outside of the range of the shockwaves and have not earned this achievement. I will try dodging and jumping over the shockwaves in phase 2 of this fight when I am able.

In the meanwhile, for those of you who have earned this, would you mind sharing the conditions in which you earned it? (Did you dodge or jump at least once; did your team kill the melee or ranged mob first; etc).
