At the risk of sounding like some elitist, I think you should learn how to play your class(es) first.

The vanilla game missions don’t teach you how to play very well, imo. Gear up to exotics, learn how to kite/sustain groups, then throw yourself into the HoT maps. The HoT mobs are generally stronger than vanilla mobs, so you need to learn how to handle them, too. I’ve done all the missions — from vanilla to all the Living World missions — solo, so I know it’s possible. glhf

But since there are already so many people out there that have bought multiple of the same gathering tools it would be pretty bad to not give all of them a refund, while that feels bad for Anet economically I’m pretty certain something like this would improve sales on these items in the long run.

It doesn’t really affect their economy since the refund will be paid in gems. But I do remember Anet’s efforts to exchange tools for gems when the tools went from soulbound to accountbound. It was really hectic. I’d feel sorry for the poor blokes who get stuck processing these requests.

Prior to the announcement of Heart of Thorns, infinite gathering tools were on the gem store only during certain periods. Infinite gathering tools are ridiculously convenient, and I made it a habit to get a set for each level 80 toon I made.

Now, I’m wondering if there are any plans to incorporate gathering tool exchanges or something similar, e.g. trading a Frost Wasp Logging Tool for a Chop-It-All Logging Axe. I understand that the tools’ accountbound nature lets players juggle them between characters, but in my case (eighteen level 80s, and counting) that is quite impossible.
