This is nothing more that sour grapes on your part.
Also, I didn’t quite get what you meant with this. Was it a typo? Or just a saying I may not be familiar with?
Firstly, my main argument for why the QD Train is a bad thing is because it is in a starting area. An area where players who are just starting out should be able to freely roam around and learn to play the game without a rampaging horde of higher level characters running around zerging everything in sight.
With me you lost what little credibility you have with that statement. If you truly knew anything about the QD Champ train, you’d know that they only focus on four Champs, five when the Wasp pops up. And those are Champs that new players cant take down solo anyway. Every new player that I’ve talked to in QD has enjoyed the Train, they get lots of XP, Karma, and loot that they would have a difficult time getting on their own.
This is nothing more that sour grapes on your part. I also disbelieve that part about your “friend” being harassed.
It surprises me that so many people make this claim that the champions in Queensdale are impossible for new players to kill.. They are very easy to kill. Two to three people can down any of them easily.
I am well aware of what the QD train does and the methods behind how it works or else i would not have spent the time to start this post and continue to read everything that is posted in response to my claims to better address the issues brought up by various posters.
And honestly, i don’t care if you believe what i said about my friend getting harassed to the point that they stopped playing for a few days or not, because it did happen and its a worry of mine that it could happen to new players who might not have the desire to come back.
Sure there are some who enjoy the mindless drone of grinding that the QD train supplies and that may appeal to some new and old players alike. I’m of the opinion that it should not be the first thing that a majority of new players will bump into and then getting stuck in the rut of that kind of gameplay.
One last thing i’d like to address in this post, is the repeated claim that i’m just jealous that people are getting loot easier and faster than i ever could by not taking part in the train. That’s the kind of assuming claim that makes me want to bash my face against my computer desk. I have an easier time leveling my characters AND getting them much better loot by simply completing all the hearts and SPs in a zone then moving on to the next one (completing any dynamic events along the way of course). The QD train is not hurting me as a player because i jump in QD to finish what i need to get done and then bugger off because its a zone full of whiners and people that kitten and moan of who killed what blob of pixels before our pixels could get there to kill those pixels. This is not saying that train as a whole is the cause of the toxic behavior, but the self-proclaimed ‘spokesmen’ of the train are the issue. And the people taking part in the train seem to have no problems letting the hateful comments roll out.
This can be said about those trying to disrupt the train as well and i must admit, there are those in /map chat that do try to change the subject or draw attention away. This does work in some cases. Draw the attention away by asking how to get a particular thing done and suddenly the people barking at each other like mad dogs are now trying to work to help the other person out. While this does sometimes happen, its not 100% guaranteed to work.
The only point I’m trying to get across is that there should preferably be as much of a buffer from this kind of behavior for new players. One zone. The Starter zone. Is it really so much to ask that it is moved up from a 1-15 zone to a 15-25 zone? Let the hate flow freely there after people have gotten used to the game.
The people that run the train work together to accomplish something they would otherwise be unable to do.
Common now.. We are talking about incredibly low level champions that can be easily killed by three to four people. Do you REALLY need a 50 man blob of people of ANY level just accomplish such a feat? Not really.
And another thing, this thread is only meant for the QD train. I’m not trying to stop ALL the trains. Just ones that would be in starter zones. I miss the various trains in Kessex Hills and the other higher level zones.
Yes, there are not a whole lot of new players, the older ones WAY out balance this. But that does not mean that the actual new players need to be subjected to the train mentality as soon as possible. Too many times i get partied up with someone who i watch just stands there spamming abilities and dies in dungeons when a quick double tap or a press of their Dodge Roll button would have saved their life. Its a core mechanic of the game that CANNOT be taught or learned while zerging. You’re in a zerg and you get downed? No problem bro! The ten people standing on your face will pick you up! That’s great. Now you’re in a dungeon where grouping up can sometimes be a bad idea. People are spread out and if they stop moving to try and revive you because you stood still, didn’t move out of an AOE or dodge an attack, they would die too. Potentially wiping the party.
I know that people are going to get off topic in this thread because it has become full of hate and a spit-swapping-makeout-cage-match, but lets do try to keep it focused on the main point. This is not about all trains. This is about JUST the QD Train. And claiming the ‘play as you want to play’ is not a valid excuse, as that door swings both ways and can be used for the defense of either side.
I’ve spent the past hour reading all the great posts that have come in regards to this issue (instead of going to bed like i should have), and i’d really like to address a few things that i may not have made clear, or were completely overlooked in my original post.
Firstly, of the people responding to my OP that i’m only doing this because i’m upset that people have thought of a way to make faster, easier loot than i did when starting out is a false claim. I am totally fine with Champ Trains. I am against only the one. The Queensdale Train. And again, as i stated in my first post, i’m not even going to deem a poster’s reply calling me a troll with a dignified response. It is a weak argument and lacks any solid means to solving the issue and is likely a claim from someone who supports the train and is possibly one of the ‘toxic’ players in question.
Another thing i’d like to point out, is that yes.. i do play in QD quite a bit. It is a beautiful zone and has some fun events to complete. I have been know to go there to complete dailies myself and get some mineral farming done. I enjoy leveling new characters and testing out new builds. I’m currently working on my 12th lvl 80 character and this does involve me running QD to level swiftly with map completion.
No other starting zone has a champion train. Why? Because the other zones either don’t have many champions that spawn (Like Plains of Ashford) or there are no decent routes to take and the times do not sync up well (Like Wayfarer’s). All I am saying is that the QD starting zone should not have a train. Move it to Kessex. Give new players a small buffer to get their bearings on the game and then bombard them with your #1 mashing prowess and all mighty zeroing knowledge in a weaker zone overall, but NOT in a starting zone.
My last comment is to those claiming that the whole game eventually boils down to zerging in world events and stacking in dungeons and spamming 1 are all admitting to the fact that they are lazy and wish to have an easy route to complete the game. You do NOT have to stack in certain places in a dungeon to complete it. YES it makes them easier at times but is NOT necessary. This is an ideal that came about from people wishing to just spam their abilities while completely negating one of the coolest, and well done mechanic in this game. DODGING. Oh.. But if you participate in the QD train and that just so happens to be the first thing you do in the game.. Chances are, You’ll never learn that particular game mechanic. You’ll learn how to button mash like you were playing a fighting game for the first time. Back tracking a bit to the zerging part.. Yes, Anet has seemed to put out a lot of content that requires zerging. But here’s the thing, all of those zerging events are in 30+ lvl zones. NOT in a starting zone. Do you need 50 people to kill Maw or Behe? No. Easier and less challenging? Most certainly. It is still not required.
Thank you to everyone who has posted here so far, i appreciate your feedback and i have enjoyed reading everyone’s point of view. Keep it up if you so wish, i will read everyone’s post. If not, the thread will die and i can finally go to bed!
I do go to QD fairly often to do my dailies because its a beautiful zone and i know where things spawn. I do not participate in the train, but if one of the dailies is to kill a champion, i’ll just wait in the cave to fight the troll. And of course i announce when the stone appears because it’d be selfish of me to not share in the kill. I say it in map chat so anyone who is free and needs the event can come, it’s not my fault that people who are so glued to the idea of the QD train are busy with another champion.
I’m asking this of Arena Net to find a way to stop the Queensdale Train in some way. Increase the timers on boss respawns to disrupt it’s flow. Reduce the rewards so that it is not a feasible way to get loot at later levels. Keep the starting zones for what they’re meant to be: A way to teach players new to GW2 how the basics of the game work. NOT a zone full of lazy high level players looking for easy loot and simpler way to level without experiencing the rest of the game.
One of the main arguments against my claims is that I’m perceived as a troll and am trying to ruin the train for no other reason than for my own, apparently, twisted joyride of kittening people off. I’m not going to focus on this argument whatsoever because its an argument based on the fact that they have no real reasoning against my claim.
One of my favorite experiences during the beta of GW2 was stumbling upon the Troll’s stone, picking it up and feeling confused as i got absolutely destroyed by the Champion Cave Troll. After respawning i was able to request some assistance and with about four other players we were able to bring him down. It felt like i had actually accomplished something and participated in the GW universe like it was meant to be. Now i call out that the Champion Oakheart or the Troll has spawned, all i receive in map chat is harassment about my diabolical plans to derail the train and that i should conform the way i wish to play the game with the way that everyone else wishes me to play.
I’m most worried that new players, which seems to be what Anet is focusing on these days, will not get a chance to experience these situations that i loved so much about the game because one minute they’ll be there with two or three other people, and the next, 50 people join in and it becomes a mess of lag and disordered chaos. I’ve heard a few times people argue with me saying, that all the new players have to do is ask a question and that they’ll be answered. That’s great. Stupendous even. I applaud anyone who takes the time to stop and help a new player get their bearings in the game. You guys are few of many. And it is still not a sufficient argument to keep the train alive.
Another argument that pops up fairly often, is the claim that people in the game will need to learn how to zerg sometime anyway. I partially agree with this statement as i have played in WvW and participated in some of the bigger world events such as Tequatl or the Wurm event in Bloodtide Coast where that sort of thing is required.
However.. It is not a skill that i believe should be the first thing new players should learn how to do. Instead of learning their skills, what they do and what order they are most effectively used in while dodging and healing for the inevitable outcome that they encounter numerous situations where they are NOT in a zerg or even a party for that matter, they are marshaled into a blob of people where so many particles and abilities are spammed in hopes that they hit the champion for enough damage to grant them credit for the event, that there is no way of really knowing what an ability is capable of or what it may even look like within the cluster of abilities being thrown at the champion.
A popular claim is that the train is extremely efficient way of leveling and farming. In other words, its a giant grind for easy levels. And the train itself is not as efficient as it is claimed to be. Considering that a champion drops around 1s 75c give or take and a higher level character spends 1s+ to waypoint to the various spawn areas, they are only receiving 25% if that in a full rotation of the train after WP costs are added in. In higher level zones like Frostgorge or Cursed Shore the trains are indeed very efficient. Granted these zones are more challenging and do require zergs at times to down a stronger boss. But these trains are hard to come by now that a majority of the people interested in farming a train are taking the easy route by hopping aboard the QD train.
I am openly against the train in Queensdale (QD). Not about trains in and of themselves, just the one currently in QD. I have admittedly started many disagreements in map chat about why the QD train is not healthy and have received nothing but ill thought out arguments that i wish to address here and hopefully raise awareness of the issue with Anet.
Firstly, my main argument for why the QD Train is a bad thing is because it is in a starting area. An area where players who are just starting out should be able to freely roam around and learn to play the game without a rampaging horde of higher level characters running around zerging everything in sight. Starter zones should be able to teach players how to control their character with their weapon abilities, utility skills and how to keep moving and dodging in order to survive.
Instead, what players get upon first arriving in QD is a massive blob of players who have grouped up for easy experience and non-challenging gameplay.
A majority of the arguments that i receive, is that i should not tell people how to play the game. This argument swings both ways as i have on numerous occasions when spawning the Champion Cave Troll by Vale WP and request assistance, that i should stop being a troll and wait for others in the train to come and kill it. This in itself is an example of people trying to tell me how to play the game which they seem very against when i say that the train should be stopped. A friend of mine once got so much offensive and unneeded harassment for killing a champion on the path of the QD train through Map chat and Whispers, that they did not log on for a few days. I can only imagine what this would be like to a player who logged on their first day and received this sort of abuse.
This has been an off and on issue since GW2 came to mac. I’ve tried just about every trick in the book as time progresses and truthfully, quite a few have worked. This most recent iteration of the BLTC not wanting to load at all seems to be the grand-daddy-karma-queen of breaks. And nothing i’ve tried, new or old tricks, seems to have a remote chance of working this time around.
(And of course it’s right as they’re having a sale on character slots which i really would like to take advantage of. Not to mention the sweet drum they released.)
My question is… if this is supposedly a ‘web based’ system or whatever… why can’t we just access it through our browser when it goes fubar like this and do our gem purchases and all that through our preferred browser? Granted, i know this won’t help anyone looking to buy/sell from the TP but me personally that doesn’t bother me as much as wanting to use the gem store to help further support this game I so love to play and to get the items they produce to help make me enjoy it that much more!
This really is a buzz killer Anet. It makes me not want to play the game sometimes because it’s something that should NOT be an issue just because we’re playing on a mac platform. I’m busting my kitten right now trying to save up for a good PC.. JUST so i don’t have to deal with this crap anymore.
I want to spend money on your stuff guys! Fix it.. And money will come!
I very recently created a new character, my first after quite a few months, and i saw the orb that takes me to the HoM and found myself thinking… “wow.. i haven’t been here since launch..” and then i also found myself wondering why nothing else has been done to the HoM as far as upgrades or anything.
Are there any rumored future plans for HoM? Maybe purchasable merchants or bank NPCs or anything like that? Seems like a lot of empty, unused space for one NPC at the far end and a few tamable animals (If you got far enough in the achievements that is).
Leave a comment with what you’d like to see done to the HoM! I’m curious to see if anyone else has had the same thoughts as me!

that post is talking about EB jumping puzzle. i’m referring to the borderlands jumping puzzles.
i do the puzzle in its entirety. I can understand why you may want to have it account per day, but its the only real way i cant farm badges. My frame rate drops to single digits when im in a zerg and im lucky if i can get 4 or 5 badges a night in a zerg. I’m just hoping its a momentary glitch
So last week the rewards for doing the borderlands JPs were once per character per day. Went out of town for a week and just today i could only open the chest on one toon. Every other toon i went through the puzzle to get the keys and open the door but it would not let me loot the chest. Is this just a glitch or have the rewards for doing the JPs been changed to once per account per day instead of per character per day?
