Main – Senstara [Ranger]
Guild – Legends of Absolute Glory [LAG]
I’m in my second week, feel free to add me as well :P Always game for something though I’m in GMT time zone so hopefully you don’t mind occasionally doing some Dungeons, Exploration or PvP with an English Norn.
Same for anyone else poking around who fancies some random fun.
Hey Armand,
I’ve only been playing for a two weeks now I think, but what I found the hardest part about this game is choosing a main class to play. To ease this decision I decided to level all professions up to 20+ to get a feel for it and then do some Conquest PvP using Metabattle to pick a simple enough build.
This really helped me find the profession I love and in the end I chose an Elementalist, if you do choose this route then also try out a few of the races as well to see what really clicks with you.
But of course this is not necessary, some people are lucky enough to click with a class immediately and don’t need to do this. But I found them all far to shiny like toys in a toy store. :P
There is a lot more but this was my main barrier when starting the game and nearly made me give up until I took this route as I was just leveling and deleting characters never really sure where I wanted to go.
Transcendent Chest of Knowledge only comes from WvW dailies this comes from the Daily WvW Keep Capturer.
For conquest you got Rank-Up Chest’s which are rewarded from ranking up in the conquest system, the size of the chest changes from rank 1-9 10-30 and 30+ I believe containing more rewards to compensate for the time it takes to rank.
Chest of Grand Experience is a login reward which you will see how many days you need when logging in.
And then there is Chest of the Mists which is a Fractal rewards I believe? Though I’ve not yet hit 80 so unsure.
These are all the dailies I know that give the Tome of Knowledge, but I believe there is a Karma vendor who sells them as well in a bag, but not sure. But there are many places to get the tomes from… I mainly use them when I’m a little short of the next Personal Story mode and not feeling like waiting
Hope this helps.

Heh your CPU, GPU and Motherboard are all identical to what I put into my new PC last year. They’re still going strong and I highly recommend all three stick with the z97 it’s lovely and very easy to work with.
With the equipment you got I would go with a 700W semi modular to reduce your cost PSU go for a high standard PSU so to protect your equipment. Corsair is a reliable make for PSU’s… Antec has mixed performance, some of there stuff is good but some of it is really diabolical.
Aim for a Gold Standard with your PSU, if you’re spending $1500 make sure you protect it from powersurges.
HDD wise I went for the Seagate Barracuda 2TB I’ve only used 200GB of that in a year and a bit and with my SSD I went with the Evo it’s really good and I’ve still got a roughly 5 second boot time from bootup to desktop.
For the case I used the Corsair Carbide 500R it’s fantastic for air cooling, and really easy for a first time builder to use due to all its easy to use modular slots for SSD’s and HDD’s it also has the benefit of one massive intake fan on the side and slots for two intake fans on the front and for the outflow you have one on the back above the motherboard and CPU and then two at the top so you get fantastic airflow through the case… It’s a bit pricy at £88-£100 (don’t know the Canadian exchange) but I highly recommend it.
For my monitor I just went for two decent 24 Inch Samsungs, can’t remember which though I’m afraid… I would not go any bigger than 24 Inch for gaming however as you will find you cannot see what is going on in the entire screen if you make it too large and will have to constantly pivot your head… Not very good gaming practice.
But overall I’ve restricted my FPS in GW2 to 63fps and it stays stable there with everything on max even in Edge of the Mists and WvW I don’t really get any frame drops or lag which is good as I’m pretty lazy and don’t fancy swapping my graphics settings in PvP.
So good choice in picking your hardware it all seems very sensible, my advice while building is take your time. Make sure you can focus on it entirely and don’t rush.
Your most stressful part will be with the CPU as you got to line it up nicely then lock it in place with the lever…. And it feels like you’re really putting a ton of pressure on the poor kitten to close it.
Truly the most painful part of any build.
Rest of it you will have no problem with really, just take your time and make sure everything is nice and secure but don’t over tighten anything and try and tidy up your cables as you’re fitting them to save having to do it after you’re finished.
Hope any of this helps you.

PS. Don’t forget to buy an operating system Window’s 7 or Window’s 8.1 whichever you prefer. And then a simple DVDRW cheap as you like to install the Operating System, because you will never use it again anyway.
PSS. Here is a website https://ca.pcpartpicker.com/ here you can put your build together and it will find your cheapest suppliers for your parts and the community will really pick your build apart if you want them too :P

Hey Jikon,
Edge of the Mists is a sort of WvW training area packed with very difficult mobs that are hard to solo as a result for anyone not rocking true 80’s due to their gear.
The aim of it is first Press M on your map and you will see a triangle type icon moving around, this icon is known as the Commander and is a player who is leading a large group of players often referred to as a Zerg (A reference to a Starcraft race).
You want to join up with this Commander and follow the group around, making sure to obey the instructions he provides you. The aim of this is capturing resources to build siege equipment to take down walls and gates to then capture the fortress for your side.
Each time you do these actions you get Xp, Karma and Gear similar to doing an event in the world map, just faster due to the large group.
It’s good to do every now and then for a bit of fun and rewards, but I would not level to 80 like this on your first char… Though I don’t have any 80’s I believe it’s better to explore the world more and supplement the World Exploring and Completion with PvP and Dungeons to experience as much of the game as possible while leveling.
Rather than just rushing to cap through an instance on your first character.

Seras Nightwhisper.
My little Thief, my only char so far and just got her to 30. She’s fairly impressive even though I don’t really know what I’m doing.
