So I decided to play S/D + SB trapper today to see if I should invest money into this build. I managed to win a few battles and lose some, with the wins I got 1 party join then whisper complaining about LB when I was using a SB. I’ve come to the conclusion that people loves to complain especially in regard popular things. Wait a week for the hype to die down and people go back to their main because Rangers still don’t have a place in the zerg. Sure you can spam tab and snipe down the person with low hp however a staff elementalist can do the same amount of damage a ranger can do with their AA and not only that their AA hits 3 people as well as have access to 2 waterfields and massive aoe. That being said I enjoyed the new Signet buff immensely finally being able to go Axe/WH and GS shout build allows me to run with the melee train. Having a lot of stability while in a bunker build is really nice and I hope they don’t nerf it.

Folks, I play a celestial hybrid P/D thief and I ran into one of these rangers a few times last night. At first, he did “snipe” me down before I could do much to stop him. However, after I figured out what he was doing, he was amazingly easy to kill.
All I did was stealth up, close the distance, and burst him down. It’s an impressive build but like any so called “OP” build, they are easy targets if you know how to play against them.
Rangers have always been an easy kill for thieves. This is pretty much what I do even if he did see me. Start off with Steal traited Long Reach and Hidden Thief(if it won’t bug on me, and as long as I am not in pistol range it shouldn’t), even if he shoots me the steal itself is an instant teleport negating that first arrow. Open up with pistol 1 from stealth and keep on him, stay behind him so that his knockback and stealth will fail to work. At this point he usually changes out into a Sword+Dagger/Warhorn or Greatsword. A ranger doesn’t have no aegis, blind, invul, and only 1 block on a long cooldown so you can basically abuse cloak and dagger at this range. If he manages to knock me back using his greatsword #4 I use my steal again if its up or blinding powder. After this I would open up on him again, use immobolize to keep him near you, a LB ranger build has by far one of the worst cleanse in the game with a long cooldown so he should kill himself from the bleed/confusion and torment stacks long before you take any serious damage.
However this is Tournament Season 3 so I play my ranger because I am so tired of warrior and I feel like contributing.

I said this once, and I’ll say it again
Rangers were never meant to have nice things
Maybe our time has come,finally!
In4b the nerfs
It’s going to happen,, no point denying it. It happens to every class
Seems to happen to Ranger more than any other class in the game. Not only that but the nerfs come quick unlike Warrior, Guardian and Thief nerfs.
Thief would disagree, they been getting nerf every balance update so far, Mesmer too, they can’t seem to do anything to the Mesmer with out something breaking,
You mean free kill vs. being able to survive a surprise zerg? I don’t think any class out there can say they’ve been nerf harder than “free kill” AKA the ranger.
In all honesty, I think long bow should be adjusted to keep damage at max range and lower damage at a short range. Ranger should be good at range and switch to boons and condi at short range.
Oh wait, it already is. Or do you mean Rapid Fire which seem to ignore the range issue.
Haha even with old spotter and spirit I still get kicked when a guard puts up his lfg in wvw. So when are the Guardian nerfs going to happen?

You know what? Even though this is a whine post I honestly think this is a great idea. Why don’t we just reduce the time of all channeled skills?
Mesmer: Confusing Images channel time reduced from 3 to 1 3/4 seconds
Warrior: Hundred Blades channel time reduced from 3 1/2 to 2 seconds
Necro: Ghastly Claws channel time reduced from 2 1/4 to 1 1/2 seconds
Life Transfer channel time reduced from 3 1/2 to 2 seconds
Thief: Unload channel time reduced from 1 1/2 to 1 second
Some of these skills goes unused(ranger as a whole or did we already forget the “NO RANGERS”, and power necros in WvW, heck I don’t even remember seeing a power necro in Gold for a while now). Bringing these skills up will help change the meta from sustainability War/Guard combo into something else. Even now as the new season is on its way I still rarely see other Rangers, the majority of classes continue to be Hammer Warrior and Stability Guards.
Longbow damage is pretty bad at melee range, there is nothing the ranger can do to kite you once you get into melee range. And every class I know of besides Mesmer and Necro has some sort of spammable gap closer.
1. Elementalist
2. Mesmer
3. Ranger
If this does indeed happen and thieves start dropping dead everywhere cause they can’t chainstealth and can’t abuse culling anymore, i sure hope they wait about 6 months aswell before buffing the thief
That sounds like a good way to lose whatever percentage of your player base plays THF.
It would give them time to L2P
You don’t understand, Thief and Mesmers are the pros of this game obviously the people who plays the other classes was the ones who needs to l2p. Now this nerf will make it so the pros would leave since the other classes are too noob and therefore lack any skills at all to play whatsoever.
Tier 1 is now simply a game of numbers and not a game of skills. Being on top only means you zerg in larger groups. Zergwars…its fun to watch, not fun at all to play. There is no skill in facerolling your opponents.
I tip my hat to you for having the numbers and at the same time I laugh at the lack of skills needed for this.
I really miss tier 2 and 3 where the other servers where actually fun to fight. You are not fun to fight and that in my book does not make you a winner.
Peace out
If you truly think this is the case then:
A. You need to upgrade your computer
B. You are in the wrong zerg.I have seen Foo and Choo constantly obliterate Zergs all the while having much lower numbers.
Foo is the biggest SEA guild across all servers, no other zerg has outnumbered them all week so far.
Coverage does not equal Zerg size, yesterday I have seen [agg] with a 70 man Zerg get obliterated by a 40 man [Foo] Zerg again and again. It all comes down to skill honestly.

yeah.. a downed player shouldn’t be able to run into tower.. a thief shouldn’t be able to stealth his way out of combat.. a mesmer shouldn’t be able to clone, blink, teleport thier way out of combat.. a guardian shouldn’t be able to ignore some cc and run through enemies to the safety of a tower,, a ( insert class here ) shouldn’t be able to ( insert survivability way here )…
yeah.. someone is gonna say that its different because its a downed skill,, so what?? this is about ensuring the kill so therefore if you remove the eles ability to survive you have to remove all classes ability as well, downed or up, to ensure everyone dies.
Couldn’t say it better myself, personally as an Elementalist Thieves are no trouble for me, unfortunately 9/10 times I will never be able to down one before he initiate his stealth and run away. I have no problems with that, it is the way Anet intended and I won’t try to argue with that. I don’t know if I could say the same about other classes, especially classes that are in desperate need of buffs.
However, I am not going to sit here and let Thief players try to pust the OP blame to the Elemetalist especially against 1 skill and a purely situational one at that. A thief can feel immortal for 99% of the map, while elementalist’s escape is only viable near towers. Thief players have no right to come in and say any escape is OP, especially since they are already playing a class that if played right will never die even to a 10-15 man zerg.
Honestly Mesmers are right where they should be, Anet should only fix bugs associated with the Mesmer tooltip seeing that some of their skill does not work as intended. Classes that needs rework are Necro, Engineers and Ranger with Ranger being the most in need of a fix. With all these talks about nerfing Thieves, which I think is find BTW, Anet should actually look into bringing other classes in line with the so called OP classes.
That being said, the Culling issue needs a fix.
From personal experience:
sPVP thief: somewhat weak on paper as well as in practice.
-condition damage sucks when compared to other classes and can easily be cleansed
-burst damage can be easily negated in high level pvp with various invul, dodge, cc, etc.
-glass canon build would need to drop out of a fight way too early to be of any use in a team fight
-bunker thieves do too little damage to contribute anything in a fight while not being able to capture while stealth
WvW: troll class
-bunker can harass without fear of getting killed even with cc
-glass canon good for picking off underleveled players or weaken players
-good at chasing, one of the most mobile class in the game along with the elementalist
Anet needs to fix thieves while not doing a broad nerf of the class. Thieves are okay but not ideal for sPVP while in WvW the thief is one of the best if not best 1v1 roamer in the game. Anet needs to have a serious look at this and think of a fix, and not a nerf.
What is stopping us from simply running away from a Thief? Why waste time trying to kill a thief only for him to run away or reset a fight? The reward you get from capping a camp and/or contributing in Zerg v. Zerg fights far outweigh trying to kill that one annoying thief.
Say hello to the immortal mesmer… notice the killing of well guardians, eles, thieves, warriors, You were saying about they can’t kill anything short of a wet paper bag?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2V6ASnuG8uIIt’easy to see wich classes are favored by the devs…and, wich aren’t.
Lol you kidding me right? We mesmers feel like freaking red headed step children… Sure they buffed the torch and mirror this patch. But the bugged out our GS #4. Bugged the buff to the torch fixed the bug but added a new bug and half of our combo finishers got destroyed in this patch. And none of it is in the patch notes? Favored by the devs? Every patch we get nerfed and ones where we get buffed there comes a long long list of bugs that nullify any buff they gave us… Shattered strength bug was cool but it was a bug that got hot fixed. How long til they fix the GS damage and our combo finishers? Mesmers have adapted to so many nerfs only matched by engineers and rangers…
Don’t forget Necro, out of all the chars I run into Necro seems to be a free kill for my Elementalist. Primarily because conditions are somewhat useless against a S/D or D/D Elementalist. I think we should think less of a nerf for Thief, Mesmer, Elementalist, Warriror, Guardian etc., and think more of a buff for Ranger, Necro, Engineer.
So bunker builds are popular because quickly popping a stun breaker is too hard even in a balanced build? Ok… I can see that… sadly…
Its not the popping of a stun breaker… Its using those stun breakers to avoid the damage… But the perpetrator can just reset and do it again while your stun breaks are on cd.
This is why whenever I see a Thief open up on my D/D Ele I just pop my Mist Form > Lightning Flash and RTL away and never come back. Fighting a thief is pointless, a bad one will stealth, keep resetting the fight or just down right run away when things don’t go their way. A good thief will probably do the same thing, so far in WvW you can’t really tell the difference because 99% of what I said is a normal encounter with a thief. Don’t get me wrong, I will fight any other class, but fighting a thief(in WvW anyways, not PvP) is the equivalent of banging your head against a wall.
I find it funny that some one complains about a thief being able to disengage from a fight… and then tell how they are able to do it themselves.
/facepalm
You need reading comprehension my friend, all I am saying is that I choose to not fight thieves. I would rather gain more karma/silver by capping that objective than waste my time with an infinite stealth thief. I never once called for a thief nerf I learn to use what skills are given to me, similarly if I were a thief I would do the same. Which is why I think oth the elementalist and thieves are fine the way it is, yet Anet implemented the Evasive Arcana nerf anyways.
