Achievement or not, I’ve had a number of times when I’ve wanted to permanently stow my pet. Granted, the rework of pet aggro resolved a lot of those issues, but the option would still be nice to have around.
Regarding the achievement, is this the one in the Canach instance? As far as I could tell, pets triggering traps does not kill the achievement. My pet ran into a couple traps before I even engaged Canach, and I recall figuring it was a blown attempt, but still got the achievement. I even triggered a trap myself, but dodge rolled through the effect. I figured it must only fail the achievement if you personally get hit by the effect of one of the traps, but I could be wrong.
One of the screenshots made me hope there may be a couple new Ranger pets available. That breeze rider and karka looked so chummy next to the Southsun drake :]
Personally, I think their development time would be better spent making the actual game more secure from hacking, not making it so features inside the game play well with already-hacked accounts. If they can minimize the risk of being hacked, then these features they spent time developing become rather unnecessary, especially if they have good recovery capabilities in the event that someone does get hacked.
A system like Rift’s coin lock would be a far better implementation, which severely restricts what a player logging in from an unauthorized IP can do on your account. ANet has already taken this one step further with their authentication system by not even letting you log in if you’re logging in from an unauthorized IP. Add on a mobile authenticator, once those kinks have been worked out, and your account should be secure to the point that people will need access to your email, phone, and account information to get in.
No, it does not trigger the cooldown since it’s not a server transfer.
That’s what I hoped, thanks!
I convinced two friends of mine to buy Guild Wars 2 today. They both go out and pick up a copy, only to return home and find that I guess my server is one of the half of the servers that have been deemed full. I’m not familiar with how much this tends to fluctuate for servers, but I’m hoping spots open up soon.
What I’m unsure of is if I tell them to just select another server in the meantime and create their characters, does that initial home server selection kick off the 7 day cooldown on transferring servers? I’m hoping it doesn’t, and that they’ll be able to keep an eye on the World Selection and hop over as soon as possible. I’m trying to figure out if I should tell them to hold off on playing the game until spots open up, or to go ahead and grab another server.
Thanks for any help you can give!
I’ve been getting the same issue the last couple days. The first time it occurred I restarted GW2 and it fixed the issue, the next time it happened the game crashed as I quit to desktop. The most recent time, it crashed before I could quit to desktop.
I have quality set to max, but will be turning it down a tick after reading some responses above.
Current gen GPU + Old CPU = VERY poor FPS.
The old Q6600 has no chance of feeding a 7970 enough data to keep it even remotely busy. Way to old/slow. I wouldn’t be surprised if your GPU usage was 10-20% most of the time.
My GPU usage was 99%, CPU usage was 25%. That’s what’s baffling me. The FPS also seems fantastic in other games at max settings. If my CPU were the bottleneck, wouldn’t it be pushing 99% usage?
Your gpu usage is 99% in GW2 with a Q6600+HD7970? I find that hard to believe.
So do I, though that’s what it was reading. I have no clue what the deal was, but am scrapping it and returning the card. I’d been flirting with the idea of building a new rig, but decided to give just the vid card a shot and see how that went. I may return to that idea, or just stick with what I have now, since it’s not that bad despite being an oldish card.
Thanks for the help though.

Hmm. I’ve seen people reporting low fps with the card, but they’re typically seeing 30-40 and expecting much higher, not 10 fps. Wonder if that difference is due to my cpu.
I just swapped in my old card again and found I actually get 45-60 in PvE with it, well then.
Any idea if this is an issue specific to the HD 7970, or a specific subset of cards? I may just send it back and get a different one. I’ve had the worst luck with AMD cards…..
I’m not sure what to make of this, but it’s just throwing me for a loop. I got a new video card today, and for some reason my FPS dropped dramatically.
My previous setup:
core 2 quad q6600
HD 5850
8GB RAM
I ran medium settings on this setup and recall getting 30+ fps most of the time. It ran pretty great in PvE, but I got pretty crappy FPS in heated WvW combat. Before getting my new card, I made note of my cpu usage while playing GW2. It was around 66%. I expected this to go up with my new card, and was hoping I wouldn’t run into problems in that regard.
New Setup:
Same CPU & RAM
HD 7970
I uninstalled everything Catalyst related, swapped the cards, and installed a fresh copy of the Catalyst 12.8 drivers, restarted, etc. I fire up GW2 to take it for a spin, and find I’m getting far WORSE FPS on the same, medium settings.
Running the Best Performance preset, I’m getting 10-15 fps…. Best Quality, 5-7 fps.
I figure my CPU must be capping out, but find the usage sitting at 25%. Then I start worrying that the card is defective, but it seems to run other games fine, certainly not with the extremely low FPS I’m seeing in GW2.
I’ve been trying to figure out what could be going on, but nothing’s working yet. I couldn’t spot any similar situations searching the forums either, not that abysmal at least. I have to imagine the fact that my cpu usage is way down is the reason, but am clueless as to what could cause that.
Anyone have any thoughts on what could be going on, or what I should try?
Appreciate the help!
Bah. All of the bugs I came here to mention look to already be on the list. I suppose that’s a good thing!
That aside, I want to go on the record and state that the gigantic Hunter’s Call birds on certain enemies should not be considered a bug, and are in fact one of the best aspects of Rangers. Makes me chuckle every single time I see it. The microscopic birds that swarm on certain enemy types, on the other hand, aren’t near as humorous.

Over the past two nights, my guildmates and I have tried to enter multiple dungeons, but for many of them we seem to end up with 5 people in 5 separate instances of the dungeon.
On Monday, 9/10, we tried entering Citadel of Flame Explorable mode via the popup. We all got the popup, but clicking the button within did nothing. A couple members of the group, myself included, had not done story mode yet, so my only method of entering explorable mode is via the popup. Those who could enter without the popup tried that as well, but all ended up in separate instances. I think 2 different party members tried creating it.
Next, also 9/10, we tried Honor of the Waves Story mode. None of us had done this dungeon before. We all received the popup, but clicking the Enter button did nothing, just as had been the case with CoF’s popups. We then tried entering via the portal, but ended up in 5 separate instances. We tried creating it with 2 different people here as well.
On Tuesday, 9/11, we tried the same thing with CoF, same results. My guildmates mentioned they had tried Honor of the Waves as well prior to me showing up, with no luck there either.
Chatter from other players around the dungeon zone-ins suggested Sorrow’s Embrace and Twilight Arbor were the only ones working for people, but I have no first-hand proof of dungeons other than those mentioned above.
We did venture to Sorrow’s Embrace and were able to enter explorable mode there via the popup, though, so at least we got something in! I’m excited to try the other dungeons. Hopefully everything’s ironed out before long!
