Well havent had a problem with computer rebooting while playing. So only thing I did was turn turbo off my pentium I7 mobile. So either that fixed it or the ton of patches that we have downloaded. Thank you to the person who told me about the turbo causing problems with some laptops.

If your video card is factory overclocked (especially if it’s a 5xx series, my old 570 would just die at random until I did it…total waste of money) use something like eVGA Precision or MSI Afterburner to downclock it to the speeds of a standard model. Just go to newegg or w/e to get the correct clockspeeds for a non overclocked card.

Ok Im the original poster of this and do not overclock anything on my asus G73SW gaming laptop computer. It has a gforce 460M card with 1 gb onboard. Other stats are in the above posts. But on my specific case I had no temperatures that were high enough to cause any problems. I reported them also in this thread in above posts. I am still waiting for it to crash again now that I turned of auto reboot on error. So after 3 to 4 hours of continous play I had no bsods. Also I took a break yesterday from this problem lol. So I’ll report more later after I see if it posts a bsod.

Also tradewind said

Going back to the original poster, a BSOD will show in the event log, very very very rarely will it not. You are also prompted with a recovery notification when the OS starts up again. The complete absence of one is what still leads me to believe the computer is shutting itself off/rebooting itself as those will not show in the event log aside from event 41.

So if I understood correctly I should have a recovery notification if its not the power supply. Which I do have a notification and asking me how do I wish to proceed. Start windows normally is what I put as the answer. But I get that every time. I hope that is what you meant.

Ok we are getting in to some problems here on who is saying what. Rolo the person with 150W power supply is me. Jappa has a 750w. So before you respond try to see who posted what before you post. So we can all get on the same track. Because for instance I did turn off the option like you said so that if a bsod comes back it will show it. Japa however did something else. So responding to 2 different people and are confusing their posts. Also I dont know of any asus laptops that would pull more power than there brick can handle. The brick is made to handle max needed by that laptop. So it wouldnt be smart on the side of asus laptops to use a brick that cannot handle max needed by that laptop.

Now in response to Alpha Dragon- thats no problem. The model however is a G73SW and the stats are in the posts above if you need them.

Alpha read above I did comment on event viewer and what it is telling me. Basically says power was interupted….which any error that reboots your computer will have that …the last thing it does is lose power. Its event 41 and details state as follows : The system has rebooted without cleanly shutting down first. This error could be caused if the system stopped responding, crashed, or lost power unexpectedly.

Jappa yea I think it has something to do with graphics or the programming causing an bsod which windows 7 doesnt show I guess unless you turn autoreboot off. But any bsod will cause the event of loss of power..

OK update. Capped the fps to 60. I ran realtemp and disabled the turbo for the cpu. Then ran the program with logging on realtemp to see the temperature at the time of crash.

09/06/12 22:20:40 1975.56 126 126 126 129 18.4 144
09/06/12 22:20:45 1975.56 124 126 126 129 18.4 144
09/06/12 22:20:50 1975.56 122 126 124 126 19.2 142
09/06/12 22:20:55 1975.56 122 124 124 129 18.9 142
09/06/12 22:21:00 1975.56 120 122 120 124 18.8 142
120 core 0, 122 core 1, 120 core 2 and 124 core 3 and 142 was the gpu which is cool for a gpu considering that my old computer had geforce 8800 that got up to 180+. All temperatures are in fahrenheit. So nothing got hot enough to be the culprit. Someone said something about wow not being as stressing on the computer as guild wars. I’ve never played wow. Every game I have played other than this has never had problems like this. And LOTRO is a very demanding game on high settings as well as Star Wars Online. Especially since I’m using low settings on this game. The specs again are a G73SW asus gaming laptop made for 3d. With I7 pentium with 8 GB ram and a geforce 460M graphics with 1 gb onboard dedicated ram. So I honestly dont think its a thermal issue, but maybe it is. As far as the power pack, it is a 150 watt power brick and Ive had for over a year with no problems whatsoever no matter how long it was on and what load I had on it in a game. So the next thing I can try was that someone suggested I turn off autoreboot so I can see the error. But the event viewer is just telling me that basically the power turned off which can be because of the auto reboot on failure so gives no sure answer. But I do find it quite strange that only 1 game would cause a malfunction of a power pack when the others do not. So I’m at a loss.

Bluetooth I tried to disable Turbo boost in bios but there is no option for this laptop. I did however clean out dust ealier when I first had thought it was a overheating problem which helped drop the temperature. I also downloaded realtemp 3.7 to see the temperature max while in game and set the program to log. I have turned down the framerate to max fps 60 in game and also lowered the graphics settings. I also downloaded the nvidia drivers directly from laptop website. So hopefully all this helps but when I monitored the temperatures they never when above 162f on the cpu and 152f on gpu. So not sure that its an overheating problem but if is ill be able to log it now. Sounds like there is a few having problems with nvidia cards doing this. So it could be drivers. I want to thank everyone for the help. Also one thing I have noticed is that on my I7 core 3 is usually up to like 80% + but the other cores are in the 20 to 30% range…So also wondering if one core is getting too hot and maybe could be caused by the multiprocessing programming. Not sure I’ll update if i have any more problems.

Its ok just didnt want you thinking I was trying to be a smart butt. Also Theslayernl yea the other person i found on a old Guild wars feed about 2 months old was a person who also had nvidia. So im wandering if theres some sort of error that could be causing immediate shut down when generated.

So you think it could really be the power supply…why is it only doing it in Guild Wars? Not sure where to find one its a 150W power pack for a laptop. Ill have to look around or take the power supply back and have it replaced if it is that. But thank you all for the help it is appreciated. Trying to do use all of it…Just got realtemp and im setting it up as well.

No I found the critical but the information was that the system didnt shut down correctly which is not that helpful and I thought maybe I was missing something. The event ID was 41 task catagory 63.

Well like I said I havent had any problems from any other games and I too thought it was overheating problem but I play fine for hours with no problems. And had no problems with other mmos…ive played a few heh. Runes of magic, Lord of the Rings online, Star Wars and other high intense games with cpu and gpu loads. But as far as the cpu temp all I have is a gadget to see how much cpu load there is and not sure of a good one to see temperatures… Dont like running just anything if you have any good ones without worrying about viruses let me know. I’ll be happy to try em out and see the temp.

No I am able to play fine for hours and then boom starts having problems. I’ve read on another feed that someone else was having problems with guild wars games only. But as far as the system is concerned there should be non problem its an Asus G73S i7 with 8gb ram and a nvidia gtx 460m video card with 1 gb of ram on card. I play for hours on Star Wars online and have no problems at all. So I’m pretty sure its a Guild Wars 2 game problem. And as far as the temperature the gpu was running fine at 147 fahrenheit so nothing bad at all.

Anyone else having problems with the game rebooting their computer. I’ll be playing fine for a while and have no problem then about the time that it is peak for players the game will shut off the computer and begin rebooting. It has happened numerous times and I have no problems while playing another mmo such as star wars online. Not sure whats going on but if someone can fix the bug it would be highly appreciated since its a pain to reboot every time you turn around while playing.
