Guild Wars 2

I appreciate all the replies, I am loving the game. It is like all the console RPGs I have played to a whole new level. The world is massive; I am used to Skyrim size. In order to join a guild, do I have to be on the same server as the guild to join? Does joining a guild with your profession a recommended way to go? Or is a melting pot of different professions and races? I live in the Washington DC area, does that matter for the guild I join?

I am new to GW2. This is my first MMO ever and my first PC game. How do I join a gulid? Also, I am looking to join a Guild, but none of my friends are PC gamers. Any advice would be awesome.
