I don’t mind the constant elevation of difficulty for this particular dungeon, as I believe that it is a good way to cultivate good teamwork and communication skills. In fact, Guild Wars 2 is one of the only MMO’s that I have played that actually “requires” these skills to successfully make it through some of the many situations that can be encountered in its various dungeons. AC has always seemed more of a higher level dungeon, even if it is labeled a level 35 area, but I decided that it would be best just to go along for the ride that it presented. However, with the new updates to the dungeon, it has been brought to my attention just how ridiculous some of the encounters can be.
I ran the new AC just yesterday, and was struck (some could say in horror) by some of the immediate changes to the creatures and their behaviors. One of the better examples to use is the Spider Queen and her ability with aoe poison and their overlapping durations to back any player into a corner, rendering them useless to the rest of the group or even incapacitated. With the overlapping poison, a player can find it difficult to dodge out of one puddle without finding himself in yet another puddle. Condition removal can also be difficult to utilize as you can be inflicted mere seconds later. I understand that many level 80 characters with full exotic gear have explained that this dungeon can be quite easy, but I have been with several groups of the same characters who wipe continuously on just this one boss to the point of them quitting. If these high level characters have this problem with just this one encounter, how can this truly be labeled a level 35 dungeon?
Putting aside these seemingly impossible fights, I would like to address some bugs, glitches, and other known issues that I have come into contact with in this dungeon. One of these issues is with the Scavenger that is right after the Spider Queen. This Scavenger is able to go underground and pop up on players, knocking them down. This is fine, as a player can easily dodge it. The problem lies in the creature after it has emerged. The Scavenger stays transparent, making able to evade all attacks until it goes back underground. This encounter can take quite a while just to deal a small amount of damage. This can prevent progress, as the creature can follow a player up into the outskirts of the Kholer area.
Another problem that I have run into is with The cave troll and Kholer. The cave troll has gotten stuck into a wall on several occasions, making the boss unable to be damaged. There have also been times during this encounter in which the cave troll will reset back to full health. There is a similar problem with Kholer, where he has reset back to full health and his minions become invulnerable. It has caused many of my group members to leave and forces us to find another group member or leave the group altogether.
Another one of the bugs that I have come across is with the Ghost Eater. On a couple off occasions during the encounter, the Ghost Eater will get stuck on top of one of the traps, unable to move unless a pet provokes him or knocks him down. If the player charges the trap while he is on top of it, it becomes unable to activate when he makes his way back to it. This again has caused several members to leave or the party to get disbanded.
