@ everyone posting
Sorry for the delay, I was afk for a week or so there. No wireless anything, I have tried only playing with a keyboard /mouse combo and no other USB’s in. The tracert did 16 hops which is normal coming from my ISP here in Canada.
I’ve found a bit more out in the past week or so. It appears (for some odd reason) that the application layer on SOME of their servers has issues with Win 8 packets. It really shouldn’t make any difference I know, but that’s the only logical conclusion I can come too.
I’ve booted up GW2 on my Win 7 laptop beside me (different machine) and it runs GW2 fine using the same internet and same tracert path.
In short it really appears to be a problem on their end (hence they don’t support it). I’ll keep tabs on this and see if there is a fix anytime soon. I imagine with this being the gaming industry and all that the fix will be along sooner rather than later.

I’m using Logitechs Win 7 drivers latest version (as they don’t have a win 8 version yet). In terms of the keyboard / mouse / gamepad, I’ve disconnected all of them, removed Logitech drivers completely, plugged in a standard mouse / keyboard and no difference.
It’s definitely not the keyboard / drivers here causing the lagging problem. I should mention again the latency issues are only local to GW2. I’ve played a few other games (WoW, SC2, Steam client games) and there is no latency issues in them what so ever.
Edit: After playing in GW2 after the huge patch for a while, the problem seems to be latency with character actions, either mine or others. People will ‘elastic band’ on the screen. However, there is no latency in the chat window. No latency in the black lions AH or bank, and I can tracert GW2 just fine with no lag spikes anywhere along the route. My highest return is around 70ms.
It seems from running GW2’s gametest client, that there are multiple servers you hit while playing, and from what I’m seeing in game, some of them are taking longer to respond (even though tracert comes back fine to each and every server) than others. This leads me to believe some servers are having problems on the application layer with Windows 8, which of course fits nicely with devs saying they don’t support Win 8 yet.

Normally a Logitech G15 keyboard, G13 keypad and G9 mouse. Otherwise just some Microsoft keyboards and mice that I had lying around to test the mouse / keyboard theory (No idea their model numbers – they’ve been around for a while and the tags are long worn off)
You’re right, I should read buttons next time. Here’s dxdiag!

Good idea, I actually hadn’t thought of a Win update interfering. Though it was possible, it sadly had no effect.

Double post, I know. I’ve talked with my ISP and they’re 100% sure it’s not a problem with their network or routing.
I’ve fired up GW2 on a different machine running Win 7 pro from the same internet connection and it runs just fine.
I’ve contacted A-net support and they’ve confirmed Win 8 isn’t officially supported yet, as well as my best bet is troubleshooting here in the forums.
I know there’s a few of you out there running Win 8 just fine with GW2, so I don’t really know what the underlying problem is. I ran the A-net gametester checker and every test passed, every ip was connected to and there was no horrid ping in the tracert to any of them (nothing over 70ms). I guess they just need to release a patch and officially support Win 8 before I get to play again
– either that or I reinstall Win 7, but that’s not going to happen as I’m happily coding away in visual studio for win 8!

Well, I tried a different keyboard / mouse just to rule that out – which is exactly what happened. I also broke down and did a full windows 8 reset (the kind that takes 12 hours to fully erase everything). Unfortunately that still didn’t fix the problem. I’ve tested again in other games, and it seems to be localized to GW2.
I’ve attempted switching my Ethernet wire from port to port in my machine (no luck there either) – I’m using a bigfoot killer card normally (drivers are up to date), but again, no difference between that card and my native ports. – Further expanding that all my drivers and software is 100% up to date.
As for Dxdiag, no due to the fact a-net limits the length of a post to 5001 characters. There’s nothing out of the ordinary in there though (I’ve checked it over myself)

@ Alpha – I should have done that. Though now that I have, I can rule that out too. The highest number I’m looking at is about 60 ms on any hop – with no gaps.
Microsoft forums don’t appear to have anything relevant for this (though I only spent about 15-20 minutes looking).
I’ll rack my brain some more before I do a full refresh of my system.
Simple, I don’t have an alt.
I run what most people would call an unusual build, but I find it works extremely well in WvW.
My armor is all power, prec, cond damage. I use a GS and a scepter/pistol (or scepter torch – but I prefer the pistol).
My spec is 30/10/0/0/30 with traits… Halting Strike (II), Crippling Dissipation (V) and Great-sword Training (X), Phantasmal Fury (II), Compounding Power (III), Master of Misdirection(V) and Phantasmal Haste (X)
Halting strike is nice as I have two skills that will interrupt with a GS and Pistol. The extra damage isn’t much but it’s always nice to see damage on interrupt.
Crippling is just useful. If anyone kills any of my clones, cripple is just for the win against melee
GS training, not so much for the power but for the CD’s
Phantasmal fury = 20% extra crit for my phantasms
Compounding, nuff said.
Confusion lasting longer… to have 4.5 sec on confusion over 3 is VERY helpful
Phantasmal haste, nuff said
This build lets me have a phantasm ready every time I swap weapons. Confusion on a cond damage build with 5 stacks means they damage themselves for 1,300 or so every hit, more if I have my clones confusion shatter
My GS and scepter skills hit for about 2.5k (not so amazing, but the cond damage more than makes up for it especially against thieves)
In full orange gear, my crit is around 60%, power about 3,500 (phantasms have 80% crit) and cond damage around 1,200. I run a combo of teleport, veil and cloak – leave – a – clone as well as mass invis, or I’ll run phantasmal defender, summon 2 clones, cloak – leave – a – clone and mistfire wolf (fern mastif works almost as well). Sigils are 25 stacks of power on GS kill, and My scepter pistol combo has leeching and aoe freeze on weapon swap (couldn’t find anything else I really wanted). Armor sigils are 5/6 mesmer and 1/6 elem (as I don’t find daze too useful).
I can easily do 1v2 in this scenario, especially running teleport and cloak happy. Confusion can stack up to 11 with this build and really plays on people’s inability to see what conditions they have on them. Add up vulnerability stacks and my hits will push over the 3.2k mark. I can use every skill once, auto attack once, swap weapons, use every skill once again, auto attack one, and repeat. Again I have both my phantasms up every time I swap my weapons allowing me to add a free 3 – 4 k damage (depending if it’s dual pistols or the beserker going at it), plus a free cripple from the beserker.
This build plays heavy on blending in with your clone such that your enemy doesn’t constantly target you, and allows you to summon phantasms every 9 seconds. Add those to stealth, rolls and more stealth and you easily win. In 1v1 I’m usually never touched (until they figure out which one is the real me). Even still I pretty near constantly have vuln or confusion stacked at all times.
I’ve done 1v3’s but usually all 3 have to be pretty incompetent for me to come out alive. I’ll take in most cases one or two with me, but 3 pushes it!
The only REAL downside to this is no vit or toughness, so I am very much a glass cannon. However with the stealth and teleport, and most of the time being able to blend in with my clones… This isn’t a problem.

Nope! The only thing I have outside of a fresh Win 8 pro upgrade from Win 7 pro is Logitech stuff and a killer network card. Both are running the latest drivers for Win 8.
Nothing with a firewall rule either, it coppied all my settings over quite nicely from Win 7
Edit: I’ll try the Windows refresh. I don’t have anything I’m going to lose that I can’t recover.

Just throwing my two cents up here too. I upgraded to Win 8 pro x64, drivers are all up to date and I have fairly severe latency issues.
There’s about a 1 second delay on skill activation, and combat is very jittery. I’ve done the usual ping tests etc and it’s only been in game in GW2.
I’ve seen the posts about how Win 8 isn’t supported by GW yet, so just add me to the pile A-net to support Win 8 asap!
