future elite specs

You bring up some good points but theres no reason to worry about running out of weapons right now, if they are releasing expansions every 2 years like they have so far with Heart of Thorns and now Path of Fire that means we would have 8 years till the Warrior runs out of new weapons for Elite Specs to use… so thats plenty of time for them to come up with a solution

Other options alongside having the skills for current weapons changed would be allowing water weapons such as the spear and trident to be usable on land and the possible inclusion of a new race… for example say after this 4th or 5th expansion they have run out of weapons to give elite specs or just run out of any new ideas for elite specs, they could add a new race such as the Tengu, Dwarves etc. that would have to come with enough content to make up for the lack of new elite specs as it would have a new racial city, new personal story etc. etc.

Path of Fire: Unique Human Interactions?

I’m just curious if anyone thinks there will be any unique dialogue or interactions/experiences for human characters… for instance if you choose Balthazar as the god you were blessed by in your character creation, or if you choose to have your lineage be Elonan (if I remember correctly you get an option to choose your character’s lineage in the human story)

I haven’t been able to play the Path of Fire demo nor have I played Living World Season 3 yet so I don’t know if these might already exist, but I’m just curious especially considering that they had similar things for the Sylvari in Heart of Thorns

Can someone catch me up?

Last time I played the game was in April 2016 (had to stop playing when my computer broke and have only just saved enough to order the parts to build a replacement), so as the title says can someone inform me on what has been going on while I have been away?

I know about Living World Season 3 and Path of Fire but that is about it. I am mostly concerned about content/events I may have missed that are no longer available (minus annual stuff such as Wintersday etc.)

I know it has nothing or little to do with elite specializations, but there are some things i want for my ranger which i cant just allow to go unaddressed lol.

Pets wanted:
Smilodon (Sabertooth tiger, it should be substantially bigger than a tiger)
Dire Wolf
Cave Lion( Should be bigger than smilodon by a good amount)
Lion/lioness( should have both for preference)
Sarcosuchus ( The largest crocodile to ever walk the earth, would fit nicely with the drakes.)
Griffins
Wargs
Cave Hyena or Hyenadon
Entelodonts (Vicious beast known as the hell pig)
Megalania ( Massive Komodo Dragon who would fit in well with the drakes as well)

Most of these should be way larger than the average animal due to their size in real life, easily on par with a charr or a norn. This would make them massive to a human or an asuran and make them unique rather than just a simple re-skin of existing sized models.( other than the regular lion of course)

I would like axes on the ranger to be brought up to par with the other weapons, as well for perhaps a mace or a hammer for something similar to a shaman or beast caller. I feel as though giving us a melee with alot of CC would be interesting as we would be smashing the ground and causing vines, or roots to lash up at our enemy’s. Perhaps giving us an anti cc build with totems we summon which are similar to banners, giving us a banner build that is not necessarily like the warriors. Dual swords might be good, as well a dagger mainhand, but i am unsure as to which weapon would be best.

( You cant tell me having this thing running with you would not be cool.)

Pet Griffons? Yes yes and yes… I would love to have this, it would definitely make me play my Ranger more…

Though I feel these ideas you have would be a little too powerful or big for permanent pets, maybe they would be more suitable for temporary summon skills similar to the Taskmaster idea that was shared earlier.

As the title says, will these Golden wings be available on the Gem store permanently or is it to be only for a certain amount of time. I ask because unfortunately I havnt been able to play the game recently due to issues with my graphics card and am hoping I will be able to buy them once I get it all sorted out.

Necro definitely need a support spec. Maybe Staff but with others skills.

How about Plague Doctor?

Focus on bouncing skills that apply conditions to enemies and buffs to allies. Utility skills could work similarly to an engineers elixirs.

Also you’d get one of those awesome bird-like masks

NOOOOOOOOOOO I want the plague doctor elite spec for my engineer. :O
Like a new healer spec.

Nah Plague Doctor is definitely a more suitable elite spec for the Nechromancer.

Though I do think that the Engineer definitely needs more specialised Elite Specs, they have always been more of a Jack of all Trades than anything else (I havnt used the Scrapper so dont really now how much of an effect that has on teh Engi)

The Harlequin ( New Idea Specialization – Mesmer )

Hello, i spent a lot of time designing the illustrations of new skills, the description, operation, synergy, I even made a illustrative poster for a total overview of the new specialization, it is a work that I take it very seriously.

I love designing new skills for the Mesmer. It is my favorite profession and I’ve been using and playing from the Guild Wars 1. So I’ve taken the time to create this new idea, which had long in mind. Now I’ll publish it and see what you think.

Wow, I love what you have done, that is really detailed awesome.

This thread is very hard to read… I love these kinds of threads, but please organise it a bit. Feel free to copy & paste. Please, for the love that all that is holy, don’t add trivial, uninteresting information like traits and stuff… A short description is enough.

Heart of Thorns has been out for a while now and many people have had time to try out and use the new elite specializations. Although there may be bug fixes and rebalancing that may be coming along, I feel a discussion on future ones should be had.

Guardian
Name: Paladin
Weapon: Axe or Warhorn
Description: Paladins would get access to Tome skills (Akin to their previous skills: Tome of Wrath/Courage ). These Tomes could serve similarly to the Engineers weapon kits, meaning they cannot swap weapons with this Elite spec.

Revenant
Name: Legendary Human Prince Rurik or Turai Ossa
Description: Both being warriors, the skills and abilities could be more combat focused with a nice mixture of offence and defence.

Name: Legendary Norn Asgeir Dragonrender
Description: Focusing primarily on summoning and being able to focus on summoning spirits of the wild (primarily the ones who where defeated by Jormag in defence of the Norn) like, Ox, Owl, Wolverine and Eagle. Could serve similarly to the Guardians spirit weapons.

Name: Legendary Charr Khan-Ur
Description: Could be technologically focused like the Charr are now.

Name: Legendary Asura Snaff
Description: Could focus on the use of Golems and telepathy, which his creations were known for.

Name: Legendary Sylvari Trahearne or Riannoc
Description: Both wielded Caladbolg. This profession could either be focused around stealing life and dealing condition damage.

Warrior
Incubent

Engineer
Name: Constructor
Description: The main skills would be all built items in the game that are target-able and have a degree of health to them to remove them. The class mechanic would be repair. Allowing you to repair and add health back to any of the constructed items.

Ranger
Name: Pactmaster
Weapon: Scepter (Whip)
Description: Handles a multitude of beasts, controlling as many as companions with their scepter-whips. They travel the world to gather some of the largest and most dangerous beasts for their pack, gaining the Minion utility skills type.

Thief
Name: Bard
Weapon: Focus
Description: The Bard would give the Thief access to new song skills which could serve a more support role, giving boons to allies and conditions to foes. These songs could be rather powerful boons which are constantly applied for as long as the song is played.

Elementalist
Name: Spellweaver
Weapon: Sword Main-hand
Description: The Spellweaver uses Physical skills. A new F5 skill called “Spellweaving”, which combines the elements of any Attunements currently on Cooldown. It weaves them into deadly elemental dances that simultaneously entrance and terrify those who bear witness to it.

Mesmer
Name: Bard/Minstrel
Description: Revolves around the use of new skills called “songs”. These are used to grant allies boons and give enemies debuffs. They can be played for an unlimited time but with the boons or conditions lasting only as long as it is played, the second the player moves or attacks, they break out of the skill.

Necromancer
Incubent

Yeah I know, I was really tired when I wrote this and I kept going back to change or add stuff, I will sort it out soon

I’m gonna be honest, but Racial Legends aren’t gonna work. Why? Because they’d mean different races have different Advantages and Disadvantages while being a Revenant, which is something ANet wants to avoid.

Unless the differences a purely cosmetic, they won’t implement something like that. Even then it’d be more work than just slapping 1 New legend on and call it a day, which is probably what they do.

Also, don’t forget that Elite Specializations require a change in playstyle, aside from merely adding something to a profession.

I CAN DREAM HAROLD…

In all seriousness I know that is the case I just like thinking of these ideas, though I havnt been able to think of any new mechanics for any of them yet :/

You will be able to summon Tybalt in pvp. He is to be a hero of the mists.

That is nice and all, but personally a physical story related memorial or grave would be nicer and more personal… it would allow my character to say his goodbyes etc. and it would just be a nice little touch to them all

Ok and for the Norn Revenant Racial Elite Specialization (Still need a better name)…

Norn:

Legend: Asgeir Dragonrender
New Weapon: Warhorn
Weapon Skill 4: Call a herd of Ox’s to trample the target.
Weapon Skill 5: Summon the spirit of Owl to attack the target inflicting confusion.
Heal Skill: Summons the spirit of Raven, the spirit will life steal and inflict weakness on enemies. When the spirit is dismissed it grants nearby allies regeneration and vigor. (Costs 4 energy upkeep per second)
Utility 1: Summons the spirit of Bear, the spirit will taunt enemies within 300 range and gives bleeding upon an attack. When the spirit is dismissed it grants nearby allies stability and retaliation. (Costs 4 energy upkeep per second)
Utility 2: Summons the spirit of Wolf, the spirit will cripple and slow enemies. When the spirit is dismissed it will grant nearby allies swiftness, quickness and fury. (Costs 4 energy upkeep per second)
Utility 3: Summons the spirit of Snow Leopard, the spirit will give vulnerability and fear to the enemy it attacks. When the spirit is dismissed the character receives stealth and nearby allies get granted resistance and protection. (Costs 4 energy upkeep per second)
Elite: Summon the lesser spirits of the wild, Wolverine, Eagle, Bunny and Minotaur to attack a target dealing damage and inflicting random conditions to them and when they have gone receive a bunch of random boons. (Costs 50 energy)

Ok so this is my final idea for the Revenant Human Racial Elite Specialization… could possibly do with a better name :/

Human:

Legend: Gwen Thackeray
New Weapon: Focus
Weapon Skill 4: Send out a wave of energy for which gives enemies confusion
Weapon Skill 5: Drain the targets health until interrupted, or until you move or activate another skill.
Heal Skill: Block incoming attacks for a certain duration, you heal for each attack blocked. (7 energy upkeep cost per second)
Utility 1: Leave behind a clone of yourself which taunts nearby enemies (up to 3 within 600 range), you go into stealth for a short duration and receive quickness. (Costs 10 energy, and has a cooldown of 20 seconds and a duration of 5)
Utility 2: Summon 3 clones of yourself for which will attack enemies, they have 3 different effects. Clone 1 life steals on each successful hit, Clone 2 applies weakness and Clone 3 applies slowness. (Costs 25 energy, and has a cooldown of 45 seconds and duration of 10)
Utility 3: Create a clone for which attacks enemies from range dealing damage and granting them bleeding. (Costs 15 energy, has a cooldown of 30 seconds and duration of 10)
Elite: Shatters all clones, dealing AoE damage to any enemies nearby while creating “Slithers of fate” which grant whoever picks them up a damage increase, and critical chance increase (stacks for each one picked up, two are created for each clone destroyed, for a maximum of 10), as well as that it creates a dark phantasm for 5 seconds which blinds and torments anyone nearby (If there are 5 clones destroyed by this skill) (Costs 25 energy, plus 5 for each clone)

Im not an expert when it comes to balance etc. so I dont know how good this really is and was just going for something that was themed around Gwen who is herself a Mesmer. Any feedback or advice on that would be cool as I am currently thinking up ones for the other races… also if any one has skill names for them that would be nice

Hmmm so I am guessing no one cares about the mentors then… thats a shame, Tybalt and Sieran in particular where some of the best characters in the game whose deaths where really emotional…

Or has this topic just been brought up before? I tried doing a search for it and couldnt find anything so just assumed it was an original one…

I feel a monument needs to be made, placed in Fort Trinity or an equally suitable place for which commemorates and honours the sacrifice of Tybalt, Forgal and Sieren with an option for the player character to say some words to their respective mentor.

Hell I would even be happy with a simple gravestone which when I interacted with it said it belonged to my mentor (in this case Tybalt) and let me say some words…

“Lightbringer, I still owe you an apple cider…”

Next up is Warrior on my list. Yep, I’m going through them all. Considering that the last iteration was the Damage-focused Berserker, I decided to go with a Support-focused Commander this time around, that primarily focuses around teamplay. And yes, I realize it’s AI involved with Troopers here, but it just fit better.

Warrior – Commander
Weapon: Pistol Off-hand
Utility Skill: Troopers (Minions). Differ from Necro Minions in that instead of an Activated Ability, they have 2 different Modes.
Mechanic: F2 becomes a Rally Skill, which Pulses a Unique Effect to nearby Allies depending on the Off-hand Weapon or Two-handed weapon that the Commander currently has equipped. Rally skills gradually cost Adrenaline to have active and can only be activated with full Adrenaline.

Weapon Skills:

  • (Pistol Skill) Magnum Caliber – Fire a powerful shot that Knocks Back all enemies before you, while granting Might and Fury to nearby Allies. Acts as a Blast Finisher.
  • (Pistol Skill) Wild Barrage – Quickfire your pistol several times, damaging and stacking Vulnerability in a cone before you, before launching a high-power shot that leaves a Fire Field behind, burning enemies. Acts as a Projectile Finisher.

Rally Skills:

  • (Pistol) Rain Lead! – Fire a signal shot in the air and pulse a unique buff to nearby allies that causes their next Critical Hit to mark their Target for a High-damage Sniper Shot, while this Rally is active.
  • (Shield) Phalanx Formation! – You and nearby Allies take decreased Damage and Condition Damage for each nearby Ally while this Rally is active.
  • (Warhorn) Rally to Me! – You and nearby Allies Regenerate Health and have increased Endurance Regeneration while this Rally is active.
  • (Axe) Cleave through them! – Pulse a unique buff to nearby allies that causes their next attack to deal AoE damage around their target, while this Rally is active.
  • (Sword) Raise your Blades! – You and nearby Allies deal increased Condition Damage and have increased Condition duration while this Rally is active.
  • (Mace) Crush Their Resolve! – Pulse a unique buff to nearby allies that causes their next attack to apply Vulnerability and Weakness, while this Rally is active.
  • (Greatsword) Run Wild! – You and nearby Allies deal increased Damage and Attack Faster for each nearby Ally while this Rally is active.
  • (Longbow) Suppressive Fire! – Pulse a unique buff to nearby allies that causes their next Critical hit to mark their target for an AoE Crippling Barrage, while this Rally is active.
  • (Hammer) Break their Line! – Pulse a unique buff to nearby allies that causes their next attack to Knock Back their target a short distance while this Rally is active.
  • (Rifle) Cannons! – Pulse a unique buff to nearby allies that causes their next Critical hit to mark their Target for an AoE Cannonball strike, while this Rally is active.

Utility Skills:

  • Medic – Heal yourself and Summon a Quaggan to Heal Nearby Allies. Ressurect mode switches its focus, and the Medic will instead attempt to seek out and Rally Downed Allies.
  • Archers – Summon 2 Tengu Archers to attack your target with precise Arrow Strikes. Barrage mode switches their focus, and they’ll attack less frequently but will now Barrage the area around their target with Bleeding Arrows.
  • Demolitionist – Summon a Skritt bomber to hurl Explosives at enemies. Bomber mode switches its focus, and it will instead chase down enemies to plant a Bomb that Launches them and acts as Blast Finisher.
  • Phalanx – Summon a High-HP Ogre Standard-bearer that absorbs Damage aimed at nearby Allies. Sentinel mode switches its focus, and it’ll move to the target Area, Blocking Projectiles and pulsing Stability to Allies, while rapidly Regaining HP.
  • Lancer – Summon a Centaur Lancer to attack enemies with Crippling Strikes. Charge mode switches its focus, and it will now Trample enemies in its wake, Knocking them Back and pulsing Swiftness to allies.
  • Assassin – Elite Skill. Summon a Largos Assassin to attack your target with flurries of swift attacks, causing Vulnerability. Stealth mode switches its focus, causing it to disappear from view and attack less frequently, but with devastating backstabs.

THIS… I now need this so badly, only one question… your idea for this how many minions would you allow summoned at once? Im guessing one

thieves are no bards..nothing in their core design speaks of anythign thats based on music..
the only real class, of GW2, that could ever become a bard, which provides already by its decisn some basics and influences on that kind of specilization is the Mesmer …

Its from all classes the only one, which has the traitline “Inspiration”, which is somethign that you need as Bard to have to always come up with new inspiring songs that can motivate your allies.
its also the only class so far from all others, that even has some kind of melodical weapon skill animations, when you fight underwater with the trident, using its auto attack.

So, basically said, absolutely no other class than the mesmer understands anythign at all about melodies/ uses sound for their attacks to influence enemies/allies by the principle of chaos at the same time. (Giving allies boons while enemies get conditions at the same moment)

The only class that so far ever used “tomes” was the Guardian and anet also has said, that they most likely will try to bring the removed Tome Skilsl somewhen later in the future back.
So due to it beign originally Guardian SKills it is also cause of this nearly 100% certain, that if they really ever return, that it will be for sure then skilsl for a guardian elite specialization.
Anything else would’nt make sense at all and bringing back tomes as skill types for a Mystic Specialization for the Guardian as a more magical based class that uses magical Gauntlets, while using Tomes as returnign skill as their Healing/Utility/Elite Skills would mean for anet this way the least work.
Forbidden Spells then as changed Class Mechanic that you can use then as F1-F4 Skill when you unsealed the Esoteric Scrolls that contain them, while also bringign back as their specializy something unique from GW1.

Upkeep Boons that stay as long active as like you want for an cost of reduced Endurance Regeneration or a cost of reduced regeneration of the enermy/skill manmagement part of the Specialization, so that you will want to keep up the boons not forever but only as long as needed.

In all fairness that does make alot more sense for a Mesmer with an elite Bard specialization but Thief is my main and thats the only reason I said have a bard elite spec for Thief as I love playing bards in other MMOs so am very biased about it :P

THE PACKMASTER
The Packmaster handles a multitude of beasts, controlling as many as companions with their scepter-whips. They travel the world to gather some of the largest and most dangerous beasts for their pack, gaining the Minion utility skills type.

Class Mechanic
The Pack. Packmaster uses only 1 type of pet (keyed to the first terrestrial and aquatic pet slots) but may have up to three present at once. Each pet inflicts roughly 40% of the damage of the standard Ranger pet and has roughly 60% of a standard pet’s health. Only the pet closest to the Packmaster responds to f2 commands and shout skills.
Reinforce (f4). Summons 1 additional pet if less than 3 are present and counts as pet swap for traits.

Scepter (whip)

  • Whiplash (auto-attack). 320 range narrow cone whip attack (As seen with various Nightmare Court enemies). 3 damage ticks with Torment on the final tick.
  • Strangle. Animated whip lashes out to wrap around target’s throat. 600 range. Channeled immobilize & weakness
  • Crack the Whip. Up to 300 range 2 second fear, up to 600 range 1 second fear. Blast finisher.

Utility – Minions
Blood-Bat (Heal Skill). Large red bat transfers life to Packmaster and casts darkness fields on command.
Chromatic Ooze. Ranged poisoner. Taunts and becomes invulnerable on command.
Bull Minotaur. Melee brawler. Charges/knock down on command.
Griffon. Flying bleeder. Evades on command.
Rock Dog. Melee crippler. ‘Hunker-down’ block/regen on command.
Mature Karka (Elite Skill). Armored behemoth. Poisons/immobilizes on command.

Traits (Minor)
Run with the Pack. Gain pack of pets, reinforce (f4), access to the scepter, and minion skills.
Revenge for the Fallen. You and of your all pets & minions gain Quickness when one of your pets or minions dies.
Feral Sacrifice. You and of your all pets & minions gain Protection when one of your pets or minions dies.

Traits (Adept)
Master of the Lash. Strangle pulls and knocks down at end of channel. 20% cooldown on Scepter skills.
OBEY! All minions gain +20% HP. 20% cooldown on minion command skills.
To Me! Cast reinforce on taking fallen damage or resurrecting an ally (45s ICD). Falling damage is halved.

Traits (Master)
Never Alone. All pets gain +10% for 6 seconds and any remaining cooldown on f2 is reduced by 2 seconds when Packmaster is CC’d.
Resurgent Arrival. Reinforce cleanses 2 conditions.
Endless Menagerie. All minions gain small self-heal over time. 20% cooldown on minion summon skills.

Traits (Grandmaster)
The Horde. Your pack may have up to 4 active pets. Pet hit points reduced by -10%.
Tyrant’s Lash. For each active pet, 8% of all damage Packmaster takes is distributed to that pet.
Dogpile. If two or more pets are active, a second pet respond to F2 commands and shouts after a 3 second delay.

Ok now thats a really good idea I love the sound of it especially with that amount of detail, better than any of mine :P
