For some reason the Players Helping Players link is invisible for me. I can still click the link if I hover over it. Just can’t see it. Attached is a screenshot showing the issue. I’m using Opera v12.02 on a Windows 7 64-bit machine.
I’m starting to get lost in some of this unique GW-termonology. What does “kite” and “kitten” mean?
It also sounds like the elementalist is the worse class to play. What makes matters worse for me is the main reason I came here was because of the elementalist class.
Guess I’m just bad at picking MMO’s and I’m really stuck with this one for the next few months until I can move.
Kiting isn’t unique to GW2. It’s a basic MMO term. “To lure a mob or player around while attacking or allowing allies to attack. A player usually draws aggro by casting a mobility reduction spell on the target. The monster tries to follow the target but cannot catch up, leaving it open to attacks or the effects of DoT (damage over time) spells.”
Kitten is just this forum’s language filter kicking in. (I wonder if I can turn it off. I’m a big girl. I can see naughty words without getting an attack of the vapours).
The elementalist is pretty challenging to play in this game, because of its four attunements. In big fights, I recommend using the staff and staying at range. If it’s a boss fight, attune to water and use your healing spells to keep the melee guys in the fight. Only switch to fire and earth if things are going well and they don’t need the healing. (And be careful with air attunement. Your #1 attack can aggro enemies you didn’t intend to aggro).
If you’re getting attacked, circle strafe, dodge, run toward other people, throw down an elemental pet. You can’t stand still in most fights. Time your dodge for an impending attack, and you’ll completely evade. Make sure your utility skills complement the attack skills you use most often.
Be careful with your pulls. You’re a squishy. You can’t take a beating from a bunch of enemies.
