Personally, love the idea!
The fanboy sheep are all like, “No gear treadmill. Too much like wow. No.”
I’ve always been a large fan of player made content and the games that support it, ranging from Neverwinter’s Foundry to Skyrim’s Creation Kit. After having played GW2 since release and realizing the way it’s end game works, it’s struck me that player made content is more than possible. With the lack of a gear treadmill, it allows players in exotic gear to enjoy the full range of end game content, this COULD include content made from players!
We’re not talking anything overly fancy. I’m not entirely sure how the mechanics tool works in whatever program is used to create the game. However I can tell you it’s not overly difficult in Skyrim’s Creation Kit and in Torchlight II’s GUTS. Though perhaps it is more complex.
In the case of loot, we could look at the random bags of miscellaneous stuff that currently drop quite often in dungeons.
All in all, I think it would be a great little feature to add a surplus of content to the game. I absolutely love dungeons and feel the game lacks in that area.
We could even keep it lore-friendly! In terms of location, we could piggyback off of Fractals or have another portal nearby/next to the Fractal’s portal. Our dear friend Diessa has made a new discovery. Something along those lines!
If you feel like I left anything out please do let me know in the comments. I think this would be a great addition to the game giving PvE a great level of depth. Who knows, perhaps this could even be used to create PvP content as well!

No Trinity, No Tanks, no Aggro.
Go back to World of Warcraft.
This doesn’t constitute tanking since everyone would have it.
My hair is a bird, your argument is invalid.
Nope.
Yup. I feel like this would be great for the game. Right now there’s no inclination to do anything worthwhile with your guild, or for some, to even find a guild. Plus, after today’s patch, I totally see the great potential for raiding.
I’ll agree though. The trinity holds no place in GW2. I love the system (tank in wow) but it’s just not meant for GW2.
I’m gonna need a boat because this thread is drowning in tears.
Bah. It was just power/toughness/vitality gear. I was nothing more than a useless dps capable of taking 1 more hit.
It was useless and I think I’ve decided on Necro.
Would you mind linking the build you were last using on your Warrior when you felt useless?

I’m gonna assume this is an old link because the traits don’t jive with your utilities. Traited for banners, but no banners?
Odd. Yeah it is. I bookmark everything. XD
Falun, I added you. Perhaps I’m not doing something right. However, in response to your videos, you’re a ranged. I couldn’t pull anything like that off on my warrior.
Versatile Classes btw: Guardian, Guardian and Guardian :P
I figured as much lol.
One thing to keep in mind is that no profession will ever play like a typical MMO tank. Kiting is important for every GW2 profession to learn and no character can just stand there and constantly hold mob agrro, esp. by the vets and champs, no matter how you are specc-ed.
Even with tough, melee characters you should be running in and out of the mob’s melee range and you should be trading off the aggro with others. If you are holding all the aggro all the time, you are going to die (and your fellow players aren’t doing their jobs either).
To envision this, I like to bring up the cave troll fight in the Fellowship of the Ring movie. In that fight you don’t just see Gimli (arguably the most “tank-like” of the Fellowship) just standing in front of the troll holding all of its attention and letting himself get repeatedly hit. Gimli outright retreats when he catches a load of troll ‘aggro’ and many of the group take a turn (or several) at getting the troll’s attention including Legolas and even the hobbits.
GW2 comes much closer to emulating this kind of theatrical (and far more interesting) combat than the typical MMO where one tank stands in front of the mob and is expected to keep its attention the entire fight.
If you don’t want to play a ranged elementalist, try a double dagger ele. It’s very fun and you’re right in the middle of the front of the fight. But even moreso than with other profession you have to be ready to tactically pull back and let someone else fill the line to give you a respite.
Wow, that couldn’t have been explained any better! Thank you very much. That really opened my eyes to some new stuff. Who knows what may happen.

And I’d like to think I’m a decent Dodger. I suppose I was half expecting to be ok by sitting there. At the same time, I know that’s not the case in GW2. I also feel like other classes can synergize with defensive stats better than Warriors can.
I’d also like some more elaboration on what fell through on the Warrior.
Unless I was geared full soldier, I found myself constantly dying.
Yet I have issues surviving with a warrior.
Am I just bad?
Surviving is in fact an issue for me. I know how to roll just fine, yada yada. Be it what it may, I’ve never ever liked ranged. EVER. As I said, ele feels more like a treat than something Id sit down and play.
And I welcome questions.
No offense taken at all! I’m glad to hear any feedback at all. I may try and give condi warrior a shot. Sounds weird, but heck, I’ll do it! Otherwise, Necro seems like my second choice.
Sorry for the lack of detail, as I keep having to provide more information, but I have played my girlfriends elementalist and LOVED it. They’re fast paced and I get really into it. Though it’s just not a class I see myself maining. I see it as a treat when shes too lazy to do something herself lol. Perhaps I should suck it up and play Guardian? They have positive aspects, but the UI flames drive me up a wall.
With Warrior, I just didn’t care for how useless gearing “full tank” (power/toughness/vitality) was. I tried going Zerker, didn’t care for it one bit. I leveled a Guardian to 31 but the flames on the UI and from what seemed to be button mashing style of it didn’t sit well with me.
Currently, I’m trying Necro and liking it thus far, but I don’t like how, as melee, I’d always get wrecked, even in aforementioned gear.
Hope I’ve given some insight.
So I’ve been playing GW2 on and off since the 3 day prepurchase. My issue was that I just couldn’t bring myself to love my warrior. As a long-term wow player and tank (I played a warrior and DK) it just didn’t FEEL right. I’ve decided to come back to GW2 while awaiting the Garrosh patch and would like a recommendation of class. I’ve tried Guardian but I just couldn’t do it. My preferred play style is melee, but as with most of GW2, I’m open to new things!
