I didn’t want to delete this post, but the new training room makes this suggestion obsolete. The training room is way better lol

One of my favorite things about Guild Wars was that instead of Damage Meters there was a Master of Damage

I’m suggesting that the Master of Damage be brought back in an improved form in Guild Wars 2.

  1. Heart of Thorns is coming out really soon, so we’re going to be dying a lot more.
  2. Getting a better build is a great way to prevent death.
  3. We need a better way to personally monitor our own builds performance in order to know whether or not our new build really is better.
  • imo the current testing method is inconvenient, and is more supportive of the Berserker Meta which I for one never liked and is being done away with in Heart of Thorns anyway.
  • The same Master of Damage just won’t be good enough for Guild Wars 2 though. The Guild Wars 2 Master of Damage or more accurately Master of Combat needs to show more than just damage and DPS. We also need to be able to monitor HPS and damage reduction at least.
  • On top of monitoring damage and DPS, there could be a way to simulate a group fight and monitor your personal damage, DPS, HPS, total healing, DPS being taken, total damage taken, and total damage avoided all at the same time.
  • If you heal the Master of Combat, instead of becoming hostile, he will get a DOT applied to him, and he will then monitor your HPS and total healing. You are also put in combat, and you have to see how long you can keep him alive.
  • If you taunt the Master of Combat he will attack you, and he will become progressively stronger over the duration of the fight. He will then monitor how much DPS you are taking, the total amount of damage taken, and the total amount of damage avoided until you either die or run away.
  • Alternatively, when you talk to the Master of Combat there could be a list of options where you can choose which test you want to initiate.
  • The Master of Combat needs a place to live as well. He could just be another npc in the mists. He could appear in your HoM. Or, you could recruit him to be in your Guild Hall.

Even if the Master of Combat only monitors damage and DPS, he would still be worth adding imo. Ever since the launch of Guild Wars 2 I and I believe many others have always wanted a way to quickly and efficiently test our builds without having our target get killed by someone else, having to wait for npcs to respawn before we can even try to test our build, or just aimlessly killing npcs until we think our build is good enough because we have no real way to monitor our contribution to a fight.

Ferrets FTW!

Instead of adding a DPS meter, they could just simply bring back the Master of Damage (http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Master_of_damage). They could put him in the Hall of Monuments if getting attacked by multiple people wouldn’t work, or they could just put him in the mists.
