It’s a necromancer, somewhere along those lines the manipulation of the dead comes into play. Of course people will go in specifically for the minions, that’s not to say that commanding the dead alone makes up the practice of necromancy (can involve the manipulation of death energies) but when most people think necromancer, they envision someone controlling armies of the undead.
Face it, the naga razer is the only thing that makes this class bareable

I use a naga and nostromo game pad, i wouldn’t say they are superior to any other method. It’s just a matter of comfort for myself personally, the nostromo especially since I have large hands and it’s more comfortable than the keyboard. Neither are needed to play any class properly though.
OP, you pointed out yourself that you had fun playing as your elementalist, why would you even consider switching to something you don’t enjoy? I’ve been playing mmos a long time and that is a disturbing trend. Classes get tweaked and adjusted all the time, what may not seen up to snuff one month, is the flavor class of the next. Rather than worrying about what the community thinks, continue playing the game how you see fit. I would love a game to come along some day where people play what they wish rather than worrying about what someone else wants them to play.
Guess it’s why I haven’t bothered with much endgame since the burning crusade in wow, “community expectations”
It’s all random and fairly unbalanced, I spent hours scouring the starter zones of each race and I got maybe 4 vanilla beans and 0 chilis. However i trip over metal nodes and wood, its gotten to a point where I just sell the wood and metal stacks I end up with in order to buy the few chilis or vanilla beans on the trader. Of course 80 to 100 pieces of wood for 1 or 2 beans is seriously wrong.
