I like the Jotun Greatsword for my norn ranger:
Finally someone who knows and appreciate this class, thanks Dahkeus.8243 you made my night!

Well my friend, I don’t know where to start … but here we go: First of all, GW2 is about the flexibility of classes, meaning you don’t pick a class to be the classic stereotype for it, you can pick one and be tanky or DPS, you can also be an archer, condition damage dealer, healer, etc. So far many of the classes allows you to pick most of these specs’ for it and play it successful. You are saying you like archery, that’s good, not only the game gives you 2 bow types, but also 3 classes (if I am not mistaken) ready and able to use at least one of them. On the other hand you say you don’t like or don’t need fancy pets to do the DPS for you, that’s ok too, but you see, it seems that your problem is the class choice, maybe you should try out the warrior or thief with some ranged combat you might find it to your liking. And as far as PVP is concerned, GW2 tends to be a game that highly encourages this aspect and if you don’t like it well … Anyway I don’t want to be rough, it does seem that ranger is kind of screwed at the moment, but maybe in some future patches things will get even for all weapon type lovers.
Well, one thing people should understand is that rangers are not “the” archers. For that there should be a profession called “Marksman” or simply “Archer”. Rangers are basically “Warriors of the wilds” I would consider them as the counterpart of the paladins which are the “Warriors of the order” or holy warriors. Now if you consider the classic AD&D rules, rangers should indeed be as tough or close to what we call "fighter class " and when paladins come with powerful offensive and defensive abilities, rangers should come with more tactical abilities like a fearsome pet, poisons, stealth, traps and long range weaponry to initiate combat and when things get up close and personal, they use their dual wielding swords or greatsword or any of the “martial” weapon kits. Now, we know that in an mmorpg especially a dynamic one such as GW2, tactics and preparations are hard to implement. So what I suggest is that rangers get buffed furthermore to match the toughness of warriors and guardians in certain areas (considering pets too), because hey, GW2 was supposed to give you the opportunity to build your class they way you see fit and for that you need some backbone to rely on.
This bug still seems to exist after so many months now. Fix please!
Well if I recall correctly, all classes were nerfed in terms of speed buffs. Anet said something like those buffs were too OP and usually leaving the victim without a response. So, if everyone was nerfed, how come ranger is being less useful now? We got some nice improvements for the GS and pet and hopefully more are on the way. Did you know that on warrior thread people think the dev’s favor rangers and completely ignore their favorite class?
It has been given stun breaker, kind of implies you are under attack if you use it to break stun so it’s hardly ideal to have 5 seconds of zero healing at the same time. What was one of our best offensive abilities has now become something which could break stun and potentially have us killed immediately after. Good one ANet.
Words of gold! Listen to this guy, someone who noticed what the real problem is now with QZ! The skill itself need a change, it should be made either offensive or defensive, combining both is a waste on the quick slot bar.
I am curious about this thing myself. I tested the info display window and I can tell you that pet’s damage and condition modifies based on the bonuses from your equipment. But there is another thread on this matter and people seem to think it’s just a display bug, and the pets is 100% independent from its master, except for the related traits of course. It would be quite something if pets could receive a portion of master’s modifiers making rangers more valuable overall.
Oh that’s so bad. This might have been a solution to the ranger’s overall weakness, to share some modifiers with his master, the pet would have become a hot topic. I hope this “situation” is being worked on by the dev’s.
I don’t know about that, it seems pets get bonuses from you, I don’t know what exactly, but I can 100% tell you that pet’s condition damage and direct skill damage increases based on your equipment. The pet window is to simplistic unfortunately so we can’t see all it’s stats, but at least we can see the damage modifiers on their skills.
I love the Greatsword. Rangers are a mixed class they rely on many weapons and tactics to survive.
I play a Norn Ranger male, it looks cool, it is very lore friendly since the norn are natural shapeshifters and I also like some of the armors. But probably you will like the humans more since the lore is not important for you and humans look more “natural” overall.
