I think maybe Gaile is mistaken, and the RNG is not functioning properly. Everyone who talks about drop rate either claims an enormously high rate or a completely barren rate. It’s like an upside-down bell curve. This can happen with number generators when variables affect the outcome. Have you tried to troubleshoot this?
Aside from that, our issue and our feedback isn’t about drop rate, it’s about making the piece RNG at all. If you put it in the context of the hoops we jumped through for the rest of the collection to this point, and the cooperative effort it takes to succeed in getting to and defeating the world boss, the designers need to know that a large part of the community is frustrated and upset needlessly.
Gaile, y’all should change how you did this. I’m a loyal anet supporter, but I’m in a bad mood outside the game because of this. And that has never happened to me over a game. I’m dozens of hours into the lumi collection, and I’m 0 for 11 on this world boss regarding the chest carapace. I’m already disheartened to the point where I’m considering moving on from gw2 if the designers are unwilling to see their error and correct it… soon.
I agree with you, Stark, for the most part. But the chest carapace box is not valuable, other than for salvage. It only has personal value to players who I guarantee you have jumped through several hoops to complete the armor skin collections. They did all the storylines and achievements for the chapters. They collected all the mordrem parts by doing numerous breaches. They spent at least 20g and 2k crests on trinkets. They most likely farmed sw extensively in anticipation of the latest chapter.
So we get to the final armor piece needed, and we can’t just jump through the final hoop. We get one piece guaranteed, but have to redo the world boss and rely on RNG. But because most players are doing the same thing, we can’t even map hop because maps are filling up when the Foothold is around 50%. Further, players are afk on the map to keep the magic find buff, so there are less players helping defend forts while we all just want to get to the world boss.
And while some people can be happy that they got all 3 pieces in their first few tries, there are many more people like me that have gone 0 for 10 since getting the guaranteed piece. And every day will make it harder for those of us not lucky. Because it takes around 30 people to succeed, and there will be fewer people to help as the more lucky finish their collections and move on to something else.
The decision to employ RNG to the chest armor box was a disappointing and frustrating one. It has resulted in firmly planting players like me in one place to grind this garbage until it’s done. I have spent a ridiculous amount of hours on the lumi collection. They messed up in this case, and they should fix it. They risk deflating any anticipation players like me would have in an expansion. Yes I know you can’t please everyone. But I am someone who doesn’t complain too much. When something is out of balance, I can feel it. This chest box mystic-toilet style RNG is the first thing in over 2 yrs that bothered me enough to post about it.
Get on TS or Vent and actually talk with your server’s active commanders. Be cooperative and be willing to execute requests they make. For example, they might want you to take a small group to flip the south camp, and escort dolyaks to Bay. It may not seem as glorious as manning siege at Bay, but I am telling you, your server will not hold Bay long if your supply isn’t getting through.
Doing stuff like that will not only give you experience commanding a less complicated aspect of wvw, but will also help your server achieve success, and will earn you a little respect among the commanders, as well as the players that follow you.
Also, be willing to put your tag away in situations where there are already enough tags on the board. In most cases, your server shouldn’t need more than 2 or 3 commanders displaying tags. Sometimes, the one actually running the show isn’t even displaying.
I care about and like WvW, but am primarily a pve player. I have 99% map completion, with every point EXCEPT the Overlook vista in EB (the Red Keep). We at Devona’s Rest have not been assigned red for months. When we finally would’ve been assigned red based on rank, they started this new matchup algorithm. We have “randomly” been green the last two weeks. Our current matchup is 21 vs 22 vs 14. Borlis Pass (#14) currently has +555 to +70 to +70. And yes, BP was assigned red. Thank you, Anet, for taking what was already frustrating for my server facing huge numerical disadvantages and pitting us against a server 7 spots ahead of us.
For the people that did not take advantage of free server xfers back when they existed, why are we being screwed out of map completion, which really shouldn’t be any harder than grinding out the maps? I know ppl will say, “Get a zerg together and go get the vista.” We have tried… for months. It’s not going to happen. Others might say “Xfer servers.” Well, that would cost a lot of gems. Not all of us are wealthy in-game or out-of-game.
I have my doubts the algorithm is giving us a 33.3% chance for red. I think it’s likely that when you are a lower pop server, you tend to get shuffled out of red when the higher ranked server gets thrown into your match-ups. Maybe I’m wrong, but it certainly seemed to work that way the last two weeks.
My necro has a hard time when on his own. So I don’t play him when I’m on my own. But when with a group… even a small group… say defending or sieging.. necros are among the most powerful things in the battle. I can place marks on an enemy wall or on their door, which trigger when they come near it. Not only is the #5 staff skill an aoe fear… It’s an aoe fear that you can place ahead of time. Oh, have you seen what Well of Corruption + Epidemic can do to almost every living thing in WvW when placed at the right time?
