We CAN know it, people who have been involved in making the very system are here in these forums, and we can know it if they tell us. And I know they probably won’t, but they really should in this case because the event is for a limited time, so people who want these rewards may have to play during the time the event is not fixed on faith alone (or worse, the rewards could be bugged throughout the event and they would just be given retroactivelly).

Maybe the events will give 5 blooms. Maybe they will give a million blooms. Maybe it will be possible to gain blooms after these events, maybe it’s a practical joke and there was no reward the whole time. Whichever the case is, it doesn’t matter, the reason people should know now is to know whether they are wasting their time or not to plan accordingly, it’s a simple matter of the game respecting your time.

I know some will brush this off, but we are not time wasters, some of us have school, some of us have work, some of us have tests currently at our university (me) and we would like to spend some of our time on the game we like, but we would like some information because our time is really important and we would like to plan things out.

Yea. It’s the end of the world. If it takes a very long time they will probably expand the length of the event. We don’t know that, but for the time being we just have to wait. Maybe those who works on it right now won’t get any sleep because they want to make us happy and then all we do is complain. All I say is, give it time. Correcting a fault in a big game can take a very long time or maybe just a few hours. Who knows? We dont, so better to spend our oxygen on something else c:

I know I’m not contributing anything with this post, but I would have appreciated if you read the post you were responding to. That response would have been valid for many other posts in the thread. What I ask for there isn’t a fix, it’s not even the time of the fix, it’s information on drop rates. The reason is in the post. “They probably will X” also isn’t helping, the reasoning for that is also in the post.

People need to know how many Blooms they’re supposed to be getting to know if this event is even worth it. Why isn’t anyone commenting on it?

Because it’s bugged and therefore the amount of blossoms you get probably aren’t right either. We can’t know what was intended until it’s fixed c: so give it time.

This may have been one of the worst events I’ve seen, and I have been around for southsun opening, stuck at the bottom of the nest with a bugged npc that refused to move. Rewards bug aside, it was a race to merely tag mordrem, if we got lucky, and at the same time just tag events as little as possible with minimal contribution to get more stacks, just jumping around the map, touching something, jumping again. And considering mobs themselves dropped nothing (not even xp, for those “recommended level 18” players to get levels), you had no reason to stick around, just keep running and hope you get to things before they melt.

Obviously, the bug is a massive issue, but events will never be beta tested no matter how many times they arrive broken, we know that by now, events were broken at the start, they are broken today, they will be broken in the future. But at least I hoped the content would be somewhat decent, we’ve had plenty of events that did not degenerate into Tag Wars 2 in the past, even stuff like halloween are reasonable. Nope, instead we liked struggling to tag something that’s melting so much, that we not only do it with the enemies to get the events, we do it with the events themselves to get the maximum reward in the time limit. And it will continue to happen because it is a timed tagging event with a time limit, that’s what those do, it’s not like players will do it at their time, when it happens map is full and everything melts.

I’m not even angry anymore, I was frustrated during the event because it seemed to make a point of stressing me out for little reason, but by the time the event ended and I saw 0 rewards while seeing the lucky ones get 5 blooms for their trouble, which is a box of sand for half an hour of frantic farming, I just laughed it off, and made a point of making fun of the situation in map and guild chat (play for 6 hours and pay 50 silver for a bag of rare gear! Woot!). I’m mostly sad because this is the welcome party for the new players. We knew it would be broken in some way, this is gw2, we do our testing live, but couldn’t anet have applied what they have learned about events in the last 3 years?

Nah, he only moves every 25% to lay down multiple bomb aoes. Otherwise he’s pretty stationary.

You are forgetting his smoke bomb, often after that he uses the stealth to move away. I’ve seen him go under the ship because of that where he’ll be blocked out of line of sight for ranged attacks and regen 2 seconds later to full.

He also moves around a lot, so if everyone is on the ramps it’s not rare for him to just stealth a bit out of range and then regen everything. You have to be down to maintain his attention.

It’s easy to blame the players for mindlessly zerging, but let’s look at how this works for a bit.
The thing in guild wars that tells you where the action is and what you should be doing is the meta event text on the top right and the indicator for it on the map. Upon starting to play for this living story part they are told to go to two places by the game, bazaar and pavilion. Upon getting in pavilion they see the text on the top right that tells them they should help, as a group, to kill bosses, and the indicators on the map of where those bosses are telling them “come help kill it!”. If the only one left at the end is boom boom, then the only indicator they have for this game is telling them to go there. That’s the same indicator they have been following for the whole duration of this game, and the same tactics they have been doing the whole game, because as many things as you have against zerging, it is true they are forced to accept that it is the most profitable strategy at some point in the game. I have tried playing alone or looking for small groups, but when you start doing world bosses you see that zerging is certainly profitable and the optimal way to go at things a lot of the time.

And yes many people are upleveled, that is because the current content asks of all players regardless of level to join the pavilion and then uplevels them while giving them the boss indicators they have been following in the game already, what are they supposed to do? Yes some people don’t carry zerker gear to cover the 20% upscale, nowhere in the game is it mentioned that game mechanics are designed around zerkers for them to follow it, yet they are (or rampagers, conditions work, but if someone plays tanky for fun then they are working against the event because of its mechanics). And yes some people will target other mobs, if they don’t know about upscaling they will think they are helping since they see the bandit adds attacking players and no one stopping them.

So, what are the things advising them against it?
The map chat, something that is turned off by default. It’s worse here in europe because even if it’s turned on, all languages but your own are turned off by default, including english.
So, what’s the in game mechanic telling them not to zerg? That is scaling, a mechanic that is never once referred to in game and a mechanic they have to do out of game research to find out. Basically, what is ruining the event is either default mechanics of the chat or the fact people want to play casually and not study about the game out of it (generally you don’t study a game, you play it, for fun), which should at least not ruin the experience for people.

Will just add here that this event gave me newfound hatred for noobmanders. Every time I get in a map and see only 1 commander tag, standing in front of kurai before the event starts I know things are bound to go horribly. It gets worse, I’ve seen people with the only commander tag of the map asking for no more people to them, yet keeping the tag up, I’ve seen wiggins left as last boss a while before silver expires, the fight going well previously, people asking no more people on it, and then two commander tags appearing on it. Told a commander not to come because they were scaling, only to receive the sarcastic response that he didn’t know tags scaled. I’ve seen a commander that through several runs would just not respond to anything he was told and not type in chat anything (map chat turned off maybe) and would just drag people around to zerg. We were actually doing boom boom just fine, was at about 40% and then the commander’s group kills the boss next to her, we start typing in chat for people to stay away, yet the commander just rushes in. We move to shurrak to avoid the zerg, same thing happens, boom boom was already low so at some point before we killed shurrak she dies, then commander brings over the zerg to shurrak. In the end, the meta-strategy became fighting the boss at the opposite side of the commander to reduce the chance he would come in and ruin the boss fight. Is it the zerg’s fault there for following the commander? Ok, tell them not to go to the boss indicator, that’s game controlled, commander tag is human controlled though, if it’s up on the map people are telling you you are needed there. I wish there was a way to vote away commander tags. Yeah, sure, they paid for them, but it is affecting the gameplay experience of everyone on the map, doesn’t matter if they paid 100g, 1000g or 1000$, they should have no right to misuse it and ruin the experience for everyone.

It does have major design flaws in regards to upscaling. Yes, you can do it right, yes it can be done fast, in fact with the right group size it is a very easy boss to beat. But people will finish the other bosses faster, come to boom boom, upscale it, realize they do no damage after the upscale, then leave and let it be upscaled (or just die and not wp).

Fact of the matter is, last boss blitz, which ended a few minutes ago, so it’s just an example, took 4 hours on boom boom baines. I am not exaggerating, it started on around 3.30 pm gmt+2, ended on around 7.30 pm gmt+2, in that time people were constantly fighting her (don’t know where they find the motivation, but they were). Even if they are doing something wrong, if most players on that instance are engaging the content in a reasonable way and spend 4 hours on it, doesn’t matter how ignorant they might be, it is a game design flaw. The server’s boss blitz was stuck with an upscaled boom boom baines that was impossible to beat without a massive zerg at that point since bosses don’t downscale and there was no way to reset (as far as I know). And it wasn’t just about the turret, there are upscales where if you don’t have the appropriately huge group, even if you focus turret, she will still heal out of the damage you did in the non-turret intervals.

To that, I’ll add that right after the 4 hour long fight ended, from which I got no rewards despite beating boom boom plus another boss since in the 4 hour interval I dc’d, people started calling in the chat “plz donate” and right afterwards the regular rotation of zerg kurai-> zerg wiggin begun again. After mentioning that boom boom needed to be done, apart from all other responses, another great one was something along the lines of “What are you doing at boom boom? Come at wiggin, we are all here”

Yes there may be an issue with the player base, after that experience I was convinced many had some mental issues, but that won’t fix itself from complaining, they won’t learn it by reading forums or reddit or fortune cookies or whatever, and they won’t change even if you keep whipping them with impossible, to them, content. All you’ll get is constantly broken events, perhaps due to them, but still broken, and that is a design flaw.

And yes, I am sure that with your guild or your great server you are capable of those amazing fast gold blitz runs, but that doesn’t change the fact some of us are stuck in servers that just won’t do it right and even those of us who are able to do it are blocked out of content in the game because it contradicts the zerg mentality of the rest. And it’s not about taking charge and making a difference, https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/livingworld/fotfw/My-experience-in-the-Pavilion that’s the server I was in yesterday, I can tell you, he tried, many tried, to fix this, we even found the 6 commander tags out of nowhere and all, even our group doing boom boom had found a good balance and was working through it, but then like always people rush in and upscale it until you do negative damage. The day before I was trying with the one of the largest guilds in the server, no dice, same deal. For some servers the zerg mentality factors are just too much to work through, with any amount of resources.

This is probably the worst upscale in the game. Doesn’t help that due to bandit adds the minimum group size is the largest in the boss blitz.
