Since it doesn’t seem as if anyone mentioned it specifically: If you have Med-Kit equipped, you don’t have to drop the kit and reequip to get the swiftness buff again. Just press “5” again. In other words, there is no double-tapping to activate, unless the player is so incompetent that they don’t know when to switch to their gun/damage kit when fighting that they require themselves to have one equipped at all times.
Obviously, during combat, maintaining Swiftness while engaging takes a little more work (although unless using the tool-kit to melee, completely unnecessary). I choose to see Speedy Kits as a travel buff. Personally, I’m so used to hitting “5” half a second before the buff ends, that I don’t even consider it anymore, so at least I know I have a hassle free perma-switfness. If you are going to be in combat a lot and are using kits, Kit Refinement is very useful as well, and there is no cost or lost time to switch them.
You get a level 80 Masterwork back item (you choose from 3 different types) from one of the last story quests. Other than the starting backpack, lvl30 (or was it 40?) story quest, and guild back items, I’m not sure where else to get them.
As for breathers, I’ve never seen them outside of Karma vendors (I could be wrong), nor have I ever felt greatly compelled to hunt down anything beyond those. (Sorry, don’t remember which Karma vendor I got mine from.)
I don’t know about how much Med Kit can be used to the benefit of Kit Refinement, but it can be greatly used with the 6-piece bonus of the Superior Rune of the Adventurer ( “When you use a healing skill, gain 100% endurance (Cooldown: 10 seconds”) . Just pressing “6,” or rather, just activating the Med Kit, whether you are already on it or not will activate the 6-piece rune bonus. I don’t know if other rune sets have something similar, so it would only be for Condition Damage builds, but guaranteed 100% endurance every 10 secs can be very helpful.
