The Order of Whispers is actually led by a chick(Riel Darkwater). But naturally since she keeps her identity a secret you likely won’t ever know that if you don’t actually roll with that order. There’s also a Human dude that represents the order. His name is Doarn or something. But I do wish Trahearne wasn’t here. He’s probably the most annoying and stupid NPC we are burdened to play with and they forcibly shove him in with us for at least half of the story quest. The NPCs you killed off at Claw Island were ALL much more interesting and fun to be around. You killed off the guy that was voiced by Campbell from Metal Gear Solid and replaced him with this kitten Why? I also liked Sieran. She had character and was amusing. Trahearne on the other hand may as well be a cardboard cutout. He’s as boring as a robot and no smarter than your average dog.
The clocktower isn’t bad but it does have problems. First of all other people get in your way. GL doing it when a giant Norn is running in front of you. They should have let us do this solo in our own instance because it’s not like others can help you anyway. You can’t use any abilities so other people just get in your way. Luckily most of them fall off quickly and most don’t make it halfway up.
Secondly the leap of faith jump back down after climbing up is serious BS. Explain the logic to me; you’re climbing up to escape a rising gas, then you jump back down, and the gas somehow doesn’t immediately engulf you? This jump shouldn’t have been here unless it was without the gas.
But beyond that, it’s just really annoying. This is an MMO, not Super Mario. You don’t shove a platforming race mode with a strict time limit into an MMO. Why did we need a time limit here? Why couldn’t we just do this without the rising gas of death? It’d have been hard enough already without the strict time limit.
Nothing about this event is awesome. The scavenger hunt is impossible to beat without a guide.(Which everyone is using. It’s not a good sign on game design when everyone is using a guide to beat your content) The clocktower is a serious pain in the kitten (And again most won’t beat it without a guide due to the BS leaps of faith near the end. One has you jumping DOWN despite the fact that you otherwise spend the whole time going up as much as you can just to escape the rising gas. The lack of logic here baffles me. Why the hell would you jump back down and how does that not kill you?)
The super rare items in the chests should have been sold in the store themselves so we can actually get them fairly. You expect me to lottery 300 keys or drop 40g for 1 gear model? No thanks. None of the morph pots can be used in combat either. If they could then they would have been cool to acquire and fight with. But they can’t, so they’re just as useless as the ones in the chests.(Why would I want to fire a morph pot then just sit around?) So you see how all the potential this stuff could have had, was entirely wasted?
The only real good things about this event is that you can get a free pair of exotic magic find boots(Once you suffer through the clocktower race) and make some decent money off farming the Labyrinth or candy corn veins. Everything else is a waste of your time unless you want one of the extremely overpriced gear models from the lottery chests or the scavenger hunt book item. I do like the scenery edits, but almost everything else with this event is just wasted potential and time sapped from our developers that could have went to better use elsewhere. I support the armor sets in the cash shop but they ALL should have been in the cash shop; not just the non-combat ones.
Whenever this thing ends I won’t miss it. And if this is what we have to look forward to for future events, I likely won’t even participate in them. The 2 halloween BGs are a nice touch though. So there, I ended with a happy note.

This stupid quest STILL has issues. I had to retry this chain about 6 times on my newest alt just to get past the gate step. It hangs for no apparent reason. Undead stop spawning and there’s nothing to fight or do. I even hunted the whole area hoping to find 1 straggler just so I could kill it and move on; but nothing. Finally, after trying AGAIN AND AGAIN, it moved on. I still can’t explain why it kept failing or why it suddenly decided to progress. If your code is this unpredictable or broken you should just rewrite it from scratch or change the quest to allow us to immediately close the gate and move forward. Or put in some kind of last resort timed trigger that “forces” it to go forward instead of just letting us drop into an uncompletable state.
It says “Defend the gate” while I’m staring at an empty area tapping my foot with nothing to fight and no progression. Do something about this already. Story quests should not have game breaking bugged triggers this long after release.(Technically they shouldn’t have had it at launch either, but now it’s just getting sad)
If you want to sell stuff in the cash shop, then sell stuff in the cash shop. I’m not going to buy 200 keys and play the lottery for a random armor model. I’m also not going to buy a pile of gems to trade for gold to pay their extremely overpriced listings due to the rarity you gave them. 35g for an armor model? No thank you. Max lvl exotics are only <5 each and any other armor model is usually less than 1g.(Look up Godskull, Bandit, or Orrian weapons) You put the non combat items in the cash shop for us but NOT the ones players like myself would have actually wanted. Instead you want us to buy keys as if they were lottery tickets and hope for the best. No thank you. Next time when you do an event, don’t gimmick your users. It may have worked this time but I doubt it’ll work twice. Next time everyone is just going to be like, “Well I wasted 50$ on keys last time and got nothing out of it, so I’m not doing that again.”
I got stuck at the Regroup step where everyone just sits around at the beach like idiots and the quest hangs. But for some reason when I tried the chain again it went right through without a problem. I’ve no idea what I did differently or what was different… it just didn’t hang. Best advice I can give you is… try it again.
I was surprised when reading about all the bugs/hangs in previous steps. I don’t know how you can kitten up a quest so much in so many ways and it make it to release like that.
I’ve reported A LOT of bots and nothing ever seems to happen to any of them. What’s worse is that it is getting worse. They were rare in the first month but now they are literally in EVERY zone, usually in packs too. By next month I bet everyone I see will literally be a bot. Right before I came here to post this I saw a group of at least 10 running laps around an island. Same track, over and over, auto-killing mobs and farming the event that spawns there. Enough is enough. I’m tired of seeing this trash in my game… a game I paid money for. There’s also the guys that just spam a key for an autoattack at an event. I could do that myself with a simple key spammer program, it takes 0 effort. Nothing is being done to these guys either.(They are botting for free event rewards as much as they like and you do nothing about it.) It’s pretty sad to see a game ruined by this nonsense that is so easy to crack down on. Just ban them. Why is that so difficult? If a player gets reported 100 times in 24 hours for botting… how much more kitten obvious can we really make it for you? Do we need to draw you a picture or record actual botting footage for you? You tell us. Because nothing is happening to them at this time. I know a group right now that has been bot farming in Herathi for a week. A WEEK. You still haven’t figured out that maybe, just maybe, there’s no one at that keyboard most of the time?
How hard is it to pay a guy minimum wage to spy on players and ban these people? I could do this job myself and I guarantee you I’d never make a mistake on a legitimate player either… and without even using any kind of software to detect the programs or sniff on IPs. It’s EXTREMELY OBVIOUS TO EVERYONE who is botting and who is not, especially if you look at report counters. They run the same same path endlessly 24 7 and never talk, often in groups too. Hello? It’s a bot! I’d do this job myself if you paid me 7$ an hour and I bet I could probably clean out half a server of bots in 1 day too.(Or at least have them all flagged for review/banning)
There is just NOTHING being done here… else they wouldn’t be so obvious and be getting away with it too. Your economy is rapidly going into the gutter because you’re letting bot players and programmers farm to their heart’s content. Do I got to explain how this takes money out of your cash shop, and by relation, you? They are funneling money away from YOU and you are basically just letting it slide. Just ban the accounts! You look at a group of players for 5mins running in a never changing kitten circle through a camp… how much more evidence or proof do you need? I can only imagine how many report counters these botters have to their name. How are they still around if you “are” doing something about it?
While I’m one to tough it out for a while because I enjoy the game in my own right; MANY others will soon be leaving this game if you don’t do something about it. Players don’t like to work for what others don’t have to work at all for. They also don’t like having to pay more than others for things like gold(which encourages them to buy that increasingly cheaper blackmarket gold instead of using your shop).
That’s the end of my rant. Seriously Arena Net, do something about this problem before it ruins your business beyond repair. Your window of time to fix this problem and come out on top won’t stay open forever. Once people start leaving in droves, most won’t come back.
Only way to beat this quest is for Trahearne to NOT DIE at any point. If he dies, even once, at any point, then he will stop following you and you won’t be able to complete. If he stops following you(usually due to him dying but not always), then you can’t complete the quest. It’s a game breaking bug and I have no idea how it made it to release like this. Did the designers not test or pre-play this quest even once? If anyone played it, even once, then they would have easily saw this quest-breaking bug that forces you to reset. This is a VERY BROKEN STORY quest that seems like it wasn’t play tested at all.
So… doing the quest… Well keeping this useless elf alive is a lot easier said than done because this specific instance easily aggros Undead in 5-10 groups that will downright slaughter you solo. Once you drop, Trahearne is next. I’m a WARRIOR with huge AoE damage, heavily armored, and I still can’t pull enough weight or take enough hits to protect this guy. So I then found a Rogue to double queue with which I’ve repeatedly tried and we STILL couldn’t complete it! What happens is Trahearne aggros a nice pile of trash then gets us all killed; every single time. When we do survive, he does not, thus we still have to reset.
We then got a THIRD person just so we can brute force this stupid kitten hard enough to succeed. It took 3 people to do what was suppose to be a SOLOABLE quest.
Most stupid quest I ever had to do. I hope it is fixed before my next toon reaches it. I shudder at the thought of having to go through all that again.
