As most all of us know, turrets in their current form are a waste of a utility slot. With the exception of the Net Thrower turret, all other turrets abilities and survivability leave A LOT to be desired.
Personally I believe that turret construction should be a hallmark of the engineer class and that the proper deployment and selection of turrets to be used should be rewarded. With that in mind, I’d like to suggest the following changes…
1. Reduce the CD on ALL turrets to half of the current cooldown, REMOVE the CD on turrets that are picked up. I believe this to be a reasonable step forward for engineers… with our turrets on cooldown we are without quite a few of our abilities while we wait for them to come back refreshed. I see no reason for the current CD lengths to be as long as they are.
2. Increase effectiveness of all turrets. Every turret we have is underwhelming in performance. I understand that healing is not a major function in this game and appreciate that… however, when we as engineers choose to give up a utitilty slot to use the Healing Turret, it should be worth something to us and our teams. The same goes for the rifle/rocket turrets as well.
3. More powerful/quicker recharging turret overcharge abilities. Can we make these a bit more “woot woot” to use when they come off of CD? Launching a rocket should be something that brings a big, evil grin to our faces!
4. If talented, much stronger and menacing looking turrets. That’s right, turret survivability is a joke, can we get these to actually last a bit longer if traited… and while we’re at it, let’s make the turrets LOOK like something to fear and worry about.
5. If talented, allow for more than one type of the same turret to be in place at one time. Why not be able to put 2 healing turrets out at once if you trait for it? Or two rifles? Make it a 30 point trait if you must, but this will greatly help the defensive minded engineer who is more team-oriented than ‘zomg kill’ minded.
Those are just the first thoughts I have on fixing what I think is a crucial skill in the engineer’s arsenal that has been greatly overlooked and underloved.
Anyone else have any thoughts on this?
BTW Anet, this is an intriguing and fun class and I’ve vastly enjoyed it thus far, so thanks for that much!
