I’ve seen a few people talk about getting hacked now with them getting a reply that no one other than the normal IP address had accessed the account. First thing I was thought of was IP spoofing. It’s not an easy thing to do, but hackers have been known to use this technique to bypass authentication procedures. Getting a players IP would be easy, especially if their email account is compromised. I know GMail keeps a list of IPs that access an account. Just something I think the security team may want to check into.
IP spoofing is one way but taking control of another machine is the easiest. There are quite a few windows based “tools” out there that allow this. They infect you via website or attachment and then have their way with your machine. I will not name them or link to them; don’t feel like getting banned from the forums. But they are easy enough to use.
As always, keeping your windows updated, keeping your browser updated and running a decent anti-virus can help. Using strong unique passwords for all your services is essential too. Personally, I use my machine for gaming only. I have a virtual machine for browsing the web and downloading. I never get hacked. But you don’t need to be as paranoid as I.
You actually bring up a good point. But it’s not PC I’d be worried about. Using a compromised machine requires that it be on. I think something else people may be over looking is their router. If your system is compromised, it would take no time at all to set up a VPN on your router. Most people shut down a PC when they are done using it, they wouldn’t unplug their router. Making sure that your routers security is good would be important as well. Don’t use a default password for logging in and such.

When you use the mouse, do you disable the touchpad on the laptop? Sometimes you can get errors from having the 2 input devices going at the same time.
During the beta I was having similar problems with my Razer Copperhead. Found out it was a hardware problem with the mouse. Just needed to clean out the laser to stop the fidgety movement. The click and holding was another thing. I found a website through Google that logged pressed keys and such in a web app. I saw that while I held down the right mouse button, the computer was getting a rapid fire like response. I opened up the mouse and tested the mechanical switch on the mouse and saw it was fine. What was happening was the mouse button was only pushing the switch down a little bit as the button had worn down. I just built a few layers of super glue on the part of the button that presses the switch and put the mouse back together. No problems since.
I know that may people have been having this problem. I figured I’d add my information to the list as well. I’m using a AMD HD 6750 on a 64-bit system. After a while the game seems to glitch up and I end up with a black screen. By black screen, I mean the monitor isn’t getting a signal and goes into standby. Sometimes I can hear stuff going on, just can see it. Other times the computer completely locks up after the screen goes dark. I can tell the difference because the screen on my G15 either continues to read out information or locks up as well. I’ve tried disabling the video card in device management and get a similar lock up on my system. So guild wars is causing the graphics driver to crash. If the screen does completely black, I have to restart the machine. But if I alt+ctrl+del or alt+tab just before the black screen, I can escape the lockup because windows 7 will restart the driver. If GW2 is still in focus, the graphic driver will not restart.
I can tell that an issue is about to show up by glitching ( http://youtu.be/uSvuygp98ss ) or odd “lag” spikes.
I updated to the AMD beta drivers and have not had a black screen, but the glitching still happens. I’ve attached the read out from the NCsoft Game Advisor for GW2. GW2 doesn’t create a crash file since it’s not what is crashing. If there is anything more I can do to aid you, let me know. Thanks!
