Best general Ranger build?

I love being a ranger, but recently have considered re rolling due to me getting ocd about my 157 deaths (I know, it’s stupid).

I was wondering what the best build for general PvE/slight WvW is? Preferably LB based?

Many thanks!

Rangers, what's your death count?

If you’re willing to spend 800 gems, you have two options for “refreshing” a character:

  • Create an entirely new character (park the old one at nodes and/or a JP for some extra loot, to help defray costs).
  • Rename the existing character. To change the looks, you’d also have to spend 350 gems to get a total makeover kit.

Unfortunately, if you “can’t afford to lose” the equipment, then you probably cannot afford these options either.

Ahh I mean I can afford it in terms of cost, it’s just the time invested would be hard to give up. I only like having one character so it was more a plan of transferring items to a fresh one

The info you’ve been provided here is accurate: We cannot unbind items, but if you want to try player-devised processes for attempting to do that, you may do so. (Use care, as I’ve seen user error result in unintended results, but I have seen many players say that the steps worked perfectly for them.)

Hey Gaile, is there absolutely no items (I.e Gem shop) or way to un-soulbound an item and keep it’s stats?

Soulbound is bound to a single character. Account bound can be used by any character on the account.

If you place a soulbound item in the bank, only the character that it is bound to can remove it. If that character is deleted, no character can remove it. I haven’t tried doing this by deleting a character and creating a character with the same name, but you can rename characters so I assume that the game tracks the binding by some other means, like a unique id # for each character.

If you want to pass on equipment to another character, you can use a transmutation splitter in some cases to transfer an item:

Use a transmutation stone/crystal to bind the appearance of the item to a “white” item to make it account bound.

Place the item in the bank and pick it up with the character you want to have it.

Use a transmutation splitter to recreate the original item and the white item you bound it to. The item will be bound to the new character.

This doesn’t always work the way you expect it to: already transmuted items, “skins” and such don’t necessarily return in the same way they were before the transformation. But it should work with Legendaries and similar items.

If you have several pieces of equipment to transfer, this can get expensive quickly. It may be better to simply create a new character (purchase a new character slot if necessary) and simply “retire” the 80 in case you change your mind and want to play it again at some point.

Yeah “retiring” seems to be the most logical option, albeit being bound to irritate me, as my toon is loaded with unique skins and all ascended items.

Ahhhhhh I wish I wasn’t having this issue, thanks anyway!

Anything soulbound to a character deleted remains soulbound to that character and is unusable to any other character.

There are, however, was to make some items account-bound by transmuting them onto white items.

And how is that?
I assume stats are then lost, but the skin is kept?

Before I get flack, yes I know this is incredibly stupid but it means a lot to me.

I’ve got an 80 Ranger, with a lot of expensive soulbound gear that I can’t afford to lose, but I really really want to re roll a new ranger and start afresh (I’ve played on and off and feel disconnected with my character)

By putting his gear in the bank and deleting him, will it be available to my new ranger once he’s leveled up enough to wear it or will it be inundated?

Many thanks and I know it’s a stupid decision but it really bugs me!
