Radeon HD 7970 - Unusually low FPS?

Just to update. I’ve managed to have a play around and overclocked the 1090T to 4Ghz and fiddled around with some the graphics settings in the CCC.

Well Lions Arch performance was up to around 45 fps and it seems to sustain 50-60 fps out in the world (V-Sync is on). It still does occasionally seem to drop every so often, and i saw it drop to around the 40-45 mark in combat. Overall performance has been improved. Still not super happy, but happier.

Thanks for all the responses.

I know AMD processors as a whole are generally slower than Intel but should a 6 core 3.2Ghz processor bottle neck it that much?

I am using Windows 8 task manager to monitor CPU usage since it gives a nice break down and percentage and the AMD CCC to check GPU activity. Just to point out that when I previously had the 2 GTX 550 Ti’s in the machine GPU useage was at 100% and CPU usage at 50%.

I have checked through the sticky but not a lot has helped. If I drastically reduce the settings then I get a constant 60 fps (with everything on minimum), I just expected much more from a pretty highly rated card. Especially since it can crank out 60 fps in BF3 with everything turned right up.

I am at work at the moment so I guess I’ll continue to play around later.

I’ve just got myself a Sapphire Radeon 7970 Vapor-x Ghz edition and after lots of research I decided this was the card for me. I loaded it into my rig last night removing the previous GTX 550 Ti’s running in SLI, installed the latest drivers (13.1 I believe) and fired up GW2.

Unfortunately I was left rather disappointed, with the settings as they were previously (native, everything on high, FXAA off, high res textures etc on at 1080p), in Lions Arch 25-35 fps and out in the world 50 fps but randomly spikes down to 40 every so often… This seems only slightly better than the 550’s.

The machine is running an AMD Phenom II X6 1090T @ 3.2Ghz, 8Gb of Corsair vengeance ram and then the Radeon. When the games running the CPU is running at around 50% and GPU activity is sat at 31% – That seems rather low to me. I tried putting the graphics settings up and switching to supersampling to try and entice the GPU but usage stayed at 31% and the fps took a serious hit.

So am I just expecting too much or should the game be performing considerably better? Is there anything I can do to squeeze out some more performance?
