I agree with you Electro. Whether something is better looking or not is subjective and hard to argue. Yes, the Minstrel is a lot more subdued than the other legendary weapons. What I can argue is that the Minstrel is one of the least popular if not the least. Most people would choose an exotic over it because of it’s lack-luster. This really is my true argument.
When most of the community does not like a certain legendary skin over an exotic one then…even though the “like” is subjective….something should change.
The whole “working for skins” thing in guild wars 2 is reliant upon the subjective opinions of the player base on what looks good and what does not.
Yeah I do like the way the minstrel looks. It is a pretty neat skin for a focus as far as the carvings go. I like the music notes coming out of it though they are quite hard to see most of the time. The outer rimming of the harp is a nice design but it is dull in color…..Even though it is a nice skin it is very plain looking compared to many of the other legendaries and exotics.
If Anet would only add a soft glow to the gold around rimming of the harp…make it bright, maybe even have the music notes more prevalent and noticeable, then that would satisfy me I think.
I really am not complaining….at least I don’t think I am lol. Like I said before I think it is fair that I have what I have. My suggestion, though, is that the minstrel be more desirable than an exotic or rare. Like Entropy said, “You know something’s wrong when a non-legendary focus is far cooler than the legendary”.
so you guys are saying that the minstrel is just fine the way it is? I’m still not saying that it has to blot out the sun with crazy particle effects but there are plenty of exotic weapons that are more noticeable that’s all. Those exotic weapons do not necessarily shine as crazy as sunrise yet an exotic weapon should not be more desirable than a legendary.
Do you guys think the anomaly is too flashy?….whisper weapons? or what about the corrupted weapons?…those are even more noticeable than the minstrel. Right? Do you not think that the minstrel will easily just work for a rare or exotic weapon?
What about the fact that hardly anyone even wants the minstrel? You see someone with that stand next to someone with sunrise and the sunrise gets ooos and aaahs…but sunrise only required a little bit more work. Not that the minstrel should be as elaborate and flashy as sunrise….just….not as dull as a rare item that you can buy with 4g.
Since everyone so far seems to disagree with me then I close my case. I am surprised. If most everyone else is content with this then there is no purpose here I suppose.
I do understand what you are saying and agree to it to an extent….but shouldn’t legendary weapons be noticeable? If nobody notices them then why are they legendary and so hard to get?
Yes, I get what I worked for and not what I was hoping for and that is totally fair. I am not saying that it is unfair. My suggestion is, though, that EVERY legendary should have something that makes it stand out and should not be able be easily overlooked.
I’m a sylvari and my skin and dress is glowy. When I hold the minstrel it is dark and dull in comparison to the rest of me.
Hardly anyone wants the minstrel as it is….it is a wasted legendary I think. It may even be better for Anet to take the minstrel completely out and replace it with something else….something people actually want and think is worth working for. Why put in NEW legendary weapons when some of the old ones are hardly existent because of how unpopular they are?
I’m not necessarily here to complain but I think my suggestion is very reasonable.
lol….nope…no thanks :p. It took me long enough to get that out of my head before and now you have to do it again.
Actually what I am looking for is a more noticeable glow effect or maybe even a redesign of the harp. Footsteps or an aura would also be nice. Right now though it is pretty much an ordinary, bland, weapon that makes a little noise when I switch to it in combat.
I have heard that you will be bringing new legendary items to the game this year and am hoping that the state the current legendary items are in is not going to stay the same. Some legendary items are just not worth the time and effort because they lack luster.
I put much effort into gaining the legendary I currently own, the minstrel, because I am a musician and that legendary fit me the best at the time. The minstrel seemed very unfinished to me so I just made a costly gamble to get it in hopes that the developers would make the minstrel actually “legendary”. Every patch I have been waiting for this fix and it never came. Now I am hearing that you are going to add new legendary weapons. Are weapons such as the minstrel and meteorlogicus ever going to be majorly polished? They are in dire need of it.
If it doesn’t change, my legendary weapon is useless to me….nobody ever notices it anyway.
The minstrel is the worst legendary and majorly lacks effects. Please change this and make me proud of what I had to work so hard for.
Thank you!
I agree! More dances would be great.
I also agree that legendaries should not be tradeable. Not only that but legendary aquisition should not be based on how much gold you can make nor how much time you have spent exploring and such. Legendary weapons really need to be aquired through skill and maybe have a storyline for each. I like the idea of a scavanger hunt though. I just hope that it is what I imagine it to be: challenging and unique to each weapon.
It would be great if legendary weapons were rather a sign of how well the player did in various trials such as puzzles, strategy, reflexes, discoveries, and making certain choices in the dynamic world. As of now legendaries are only a sign that the person put a lot of time into the game or they have a lot of money. Neither of those things are necessarily things to boast about. This is very sad indeed.
Legendary weapons should also be equal in effects. They are not equal at all as they are now. We all know how bright and noticeable the greatswords are. They are great. In contrast, the focus is not noticeable at all. The anomaly is much more “legendary” than the actual legendary.
Since I have the minstrel (only because it is the legendary weapon that best fit my character), I want to list out the things I think that should change.
1. The purple glow should be more noticeable. The rest of the weapon should also have a shine to it and not be so dull and ordinary as it is. The whole instrument should have a subtle glow or shine to it including the gold rimming.
2. I would like a footstep animation or a trail. For example, leaving behind a purple trail of stave (musical lines) with notes written on it like the picture I posted below.
3. The sound effects are very sad indeed on this legendary. It doesn’t even sound like a harp but rather a hardly noticeable hum. Me and my husband were joking that it sounds like a toot or a stomach growl. Not only that but the sound plays really rarely during ability usage and it plays when the weapon is first equiped. I suggest that the sound be more noticeably harp, higher pitched, and more of a CHORD found in something like danse profane by Debussy.
4. The barely noticeable notes that come out of the strings are not always there. I would like these to be more noticeable and prevalant, maybe even raise the quantity of notes.
5. The “gold” rimming is not a pure gold color but rather the color of the “spring moss” dye. This makes my dye options for my armor seem slim, at least to me. I like things to match and “spring moss” is not really a neutral color, or at least not as neutral as a true gold or silver.

I really do not want the ability to download an ABC music file to play in game for things such as the choir bell. I really want to save up my gold to buy an unbreakeable choir bell because I am a musician in real life and want to be able to show that. If this ABC file is allowd then playing a tune for people in-game would not be as meaningful and I would lose motivation entirely to get an instrument in-game. People would not be playing recognizable tunes out of skill anymore.
On the other hand, I would not mind if some instruments have ABC files available as long as some do not. I think people who really play music should be able to show off their talents. When I see someone on the streets of Divinity’s Reach playing Zelda I want to look in admiration to that player and be able to ask, “What instrument do you play in real life?” or something of the sort. I do not want to just walk past him thinking, “There is just another person having downloaded their music by ABC file, so what”.
