All I read is “we have done a lot of work and it’s not ready yet. It is big though, but we will be bundling a bunch of other stuff in there that is not Living Story. Oh, and it won’t be coming this month.” Nice PR piece.
This has to be a bug. I don’t remember this event being so brutal before. I went here today to help someone with legendary collection. Something must have been broken when they fixed the other bug. Random event mobs shouldn’t be able to one shot people.
Krypto is spot on with his post. This is all about communication. I saw the blurb in the April patch notes. It said “when it leaves beta”, so I thought, “ok, so we’ll get a date when that will happen.” Two months pass, and I forget about the change because I assumed that ANet would communicate a date of when beta testing ends, you know, like most companies do. Nope. Patch update and the vendor is gone. Very poor communication. This is what makes me upset, not the fact the gift is in a WvW reward track.
Speaking of which, I just got my gift of battle after spending three days in WvW. In terms of the “legendary” journey, the time spent getting the gift wasn’t that bad. I’ve spent longer farming materials and events. However, I don’t see how this change helps WvW. During those three days, it was obvious which players were just there for the gift. I saw the same people as I capped ruins, killed sentries, and chilled at the garrison. Even from the opposing servers, you could tell. There was one time where a few us were capping a ruin and some invaders showed up. Nobody fought. They just waited until we were finished and moved on to the next ruin, and they capped that one. I found that rather humorous. Opposing servers working together to help players get the gift of battle.
Let me tell you a little thing about coding games. Fixing a broken code for colour is a hell of a lot easier than fixing a code for interactivity. That does -not- mean the fix isn’t being worked on. How many of you have ever poured over line after line of coding to find the specific change or error responsible. It takes time to locate and even more to create a change that won’t negatively impact something else.
(raises hand) I have. And I can tell you that if a software bug that was impacting our customer’s ability to use our paid software (as many of these complaints are from folks who bought this from the gem store), it would not take us two weeks to resolve. It would be given top priority over new features and upgrades we would be adding to software.
For most people this would make sense, even if they aren’t familiar with IT processes. Fix what is broken before adding new things. I think the complaints are warranted especially given that after two weeks ANet decided to push gem store upgrades rather than giving us a fix or even giving us a suitable response to when this might be fixed.
New patch. Still broken. (sigh)
New items in the gem store though.
