This is a bad idea for many reasons. This would simply give more advantage to players who own HoT, keep in mind players who dont own it can still play WvW on the new maps. This would also cause more players to stay out of wvw…again.. to grind pve exp to get a better advantage. Autoloot is a part of a mastery track to but it doesnt give any advantage, so thats one exception which can and should be added (back?) for wvw.
Gliding is just…no, it doesnt belong in wvw. I think people are just romanticizing the concept based on something they did in other games. To even make gliding in wvw possible, they would have to redesign the maps, add these no-fly zones to prevent flying into and out of keeps, and prevent the use of gliding in combat to prevent players from being able to fly away, which would just ruin fights. Not to mention the unfair advantage it would give to ranged players, who would only be able to hit players that are gliding, which means more gimmicks, and hell no to that. These restrictions, while necessary would just make it nothing more then a useless novelty.
That is true too, after my post… I was thinking about the differences between the HoT and the non HoT players. it would put them at a huge disadvantage. I am mostly just trying to get some wheels turning in players minds to see what they can come up with.
WvW should have its own lines (as it already does) but they need to be expanded. They can borrow from PvE such as an Auto Loot WvW mastery. However they should add new ones such as (just some thoughts no necessarily fully thought out):
Siege Refresh Mastery: Increases the time needed between refreshes
Armored Objective Defender: Massive armor increase while using keep siege (cannons, mortars, oil)
Dolyak Escorter: Increases the speed of a Dolyak while it is escorted by a player
Camp Defender: Power/vit stacks for players defending a camp
Fast Road Traversal: Faster movement while on roads and not in combat
That is a good idea too. I am mostly just trying to get other players thinking and come up with ideas.
My idea would definitely not be healthy for most maps out there. Might be cool on its own separate built map. (more of a “for fun” map)
ANet has already brought this up and said “We wanted to keep PvE progression (Masteries) separate from WvW progression (Ability Lines). ” (Hence why we don’t have the WvW auto-loot option that a dev used as an example before HoT was released.)
But beyond that though, it doesn’t seem like this idea would be healthy for the game mode. WvW already does a great deal to force you out of playing it. By adding in something that is going to demand you PvE for these things, it’s just going to worsen that and dwindle the WvW population down even further.
Fair enough, I was not sure if would be healthy also. Mostly just trying to expand on ideas with the community. It would be cool to see them maybe creating a new map with some different mechanics, maybe its own WvW mastery line or something
So I have been pondering about this idea since HoT came out, and the new Battlegrounds that have been released; I think Arena Net should implement a system that would let you use the HoT Masteries in the new maps.
I know the idea of gliding has already come up. And to fix anything that breaks the game they could place in no fly zones in certain areas; but I also got thinking deeper into the topic and thought up other idea that sound fun (in my mind anyways) that could really make mix things up in WvW.
Some ideas were things like Poison traps to defend attack routes that make use of the Itzel mastery line, events where your server must capture and control nuhoch wallows to navigate around the maps easier. There is a stealth area already in the game, it would be cool to have stealth detection work there.
I know something like this would take a long time to build and implement into the game (any maybe it just is not good for balance) but I think it would put quite a flavorful twist into WvW. What do you guys think?
