sorry for bump, but it seems that me and my gf have this bug now too. Everytime we are near the end of a queue, bam => disconnect. even in teamspeak and other things concerning internal network, happens over lan or wlan, no matter what. only correlation is queuing for wvw.

Food for thought for ArenaNet

First of all: + 1 bazillion and very nice and constructive thread here

In arenanets eyes GvG is seen as the following:
Too much drama.
Not that competitive.
Difficult to monetize.

To create a specific WvW map for 20something guilds it would require resources that Anet simply will not allocate to a game-mode they feel will not be simple to monetize.

The most likely event to happen would be that GvG gets linked to sPvP and a large TDM is created – but lets be real here, its probably not going to.

Anet will not attempt to push the WvW game mode or even advertise it as a mode that is focused around guilds of 20-30 players, this would alienate large swathes of randoms, bigger guilds and smaller guilds. Its not something any company would realistically do since it would have repercussions on their income.

They created the coliseum as a way to appease the GvG scene but quite clearly that was a pointless exercise.

Anet are going to focus their development resource on areas of the game that are easy to monetize, attract larger amounts of players or return the most amounts of players.

I am on the same side of the fence as almost everyone here, I loved the GvG game mode, it was great fun while it lasted but sadly, as most of you should realize, especially those who have fought at the higher ends of the GvG spectrum, nothing has changed over the past few years for a reason. GvG is not a game mode that Arenanet wish to support, its not a game mode they wish to incorporate into what they consider the mainstream of their game. The higher ups have already made their distaste for the game mode quite clear.

I commend all of you who have participated in this thread, however it really is not going to change much and will fall on deaf ears, once again.

Regards,
Aneu

P.S – Lets hope that in the future I have to eat humble pie and something changes, I won’t hold my breath however.

Just for the “specific WvW Map”-part… yknow, imho that is, what might in soccer be called champions league – but at least for me and some mates I can say: All we want is at least some sort of league. (I’m from germany, but I think you’ll get my point…. :-) ) There is no urgent need to do this at start. To create some fancy new maps. To build up new artwork. to create new moves, dunno… all this “little things” that bother a softwaredeveloper (and such am I), but are forgotten by most of the “normal folks” out there.

I know the starter of this thread said it should be more – and it definitely should – but imho most of the people here just don’t want to be ignored anymore. It’s ok for us not to get everything at a time. But it’s just simply not ok to be that completely ignored, having a big community as such.

  • The combat balancing is just fine, sortof (Better than any other game, though).
  • The Arena is out there as a map (OS – because why the hell not?).
  • The spectator-system is out there (pvp-mode).

When these three systems are sw-engineered properly (not mentioning all the underlying aspects like game-engine and so on), from a technical point of view it should imho work out in a fair amount of time with not that much effort to create a simple tdm-mode.
May be it’s just bad sw-design which prevents you from doing this. Would be very sad, though. But i’ve seen larger companies doing veeerry bad things out there. But well, back to topic:

So yes, there definitely is some need for a proper ladder-system and some “rules” – but why not just ask the community, as it’s done in every other aspect of the game. And – please correct me if I’m wrong – but having developed the one or other game myself (small ones, though) as far as I can say – from a pure technical point of view – it isn’t that hard to create a highscore in some sort of manner. Even not later on.

But well, all I truly wanted to say is: Thanks to the threadstarter. And please a-net, stop ignoring us. All of us.

kthxbye

Absolutely unplayable in germany / eu too. Had a guild-raid this eve, but stopped it after an hour just because every 5 minutes another one “lagged out”. This kitten can kill games anet, please take it as serious as it is..

fps drop with patch

Please anet, fix this. I changed my dns-servers according to the advice from a user (!) here, but as I thought, no changes on the fps… worked very well here on a new mbp and still on a new mba with lowest graphics quality before… now, there’s nothing more than smallscale. It’s getting kind of a shame how you treat your mac-community. It really seems that there’s no QA for the client, it seems like it’s kinda this out there:

(The following scene may be exaggerated…o.O)

productmanager to mac-qa: “hey, this is the new update! Play it on your new Mac Pro for 5 minutes and tell me if you can log in and see something”

mac-qa: “yeh, here you go. I logged in and it worked all fine. But…”

productmanager to mac-qa: “kthxbye.”

productmanager to rest: “release it into the wild! yay! new content!”

sorry, but after months of continuous problems, this is just sort of unprofessionall and should be communicated openly.

Best regards from a software engineer who hopes your QA gets better, because you’re able to destroy a game (or lets say: the userbase of a game, which is somewhat the same in terms of mmos) with great potential with this kind of homemade problems. It’s not that hard to think such things through, at least it shouldn’t be for people who get paid that amounts..

p.s: but after closing the forums and so on… please, if you don’t like guildwars in guildwars (or lets say: if you dont like your wvw-mode anymore)… then just communicate this. The people will search another game. Nothings more enerving for a community than a publisher not taking care of it’s game (or parts of it) because internally they drew the curtain over the game(mode) long ago.

Guys, excuse me, but… reading about blobbing? at miller? mwahaha. To be honest, we’re happy getting 80 ppl on the whole ts-server…

fsp, you mention yourself the “guildy guildy gvg yay” – server? then try it with one guild only, everything about 30 ppl (~40 w/ randoms) is just blob. So I nearly always saw 3 or 4 of your 15+-guilds together, or one guild with approx. 50 members. Just a few minutes ago, 60+ in our hills. So, lets be honest: I know you got the manpower, but… You think that’s skill? I dare you. I know some of you (yeh, hi dF, had some nice wipes against you ;) ) have that skill, but most of your players, i think especially the ppl talking ‘bout miller blobbing here, are just wipelings in a blob, benefitting from fsps core of good players. No offense, but my opinion. Not more, not less.
I didn’t think fsp is in need to do something like this. Surmia? sure, they don’t have the guilds. Even Miller. There were many WTJs leaving after season 1, but yes, even miller had two or three events with a 60+-blob.. But generally, everytime I see a blob – everyday-, it’s fsp.
May be that you have more than enough players for wvw. Ok with that. But those comments? As I mentioned before: lol.
