CPU Core Speed vs Quantity?

I highly doubt that you can unlock your CPU to more cores without taking a hit in speed. Unless the CPU has four physical cores, which the X3 720 doesn’t, you aren’t going to make a 4th core pop up by changing BIOS settings, which is why it’s slower.

I use an Athlon II X4 645 and I rarely get the framerates I should be getting with my card. GW2 depends heavily on performance per core, not number of cores. So really, not many AMD processors are going to offer great performance.

I can’t exactly afford a sandy bridge CPU and a new motherboard right now… Oh well, I’ve been used to playing on 30-40FPS for years…

Max settings except for supersampling I think. Supersampling murders FPS on both of our cards.

I’m looking for a better CPU like Phenom II X6 1065T but my motherboard only supports 95W TDP, and the 95W versions of these CPU’s are near impossible to find.

I’m running GW2 on the following build:
Foxconn 2AB1 (1.00)
AMD Athlon II X4 645 @3.1GHz
XFX Radeon HD 7770 GHz Edition
12GB DDR3 1333MHz

The problem is I’m still unable to get my FPS above 30 on medium-high settings. My friend runs the game on an HD 5770 and gets 60FPS on max settings. Why is my newer card slower? They have the same GPU and neither card is overclocked.
