Customizable Weapon-Crafting

Imagine this: A player spends his time gathering mats, gaining skill in his craft, until he’s finally ready. Hes at max level weaponsmithing, ready to create an awesome exotic quality sword. He puts all his mats together, feels a sense of accomplishment, and gets his sword thats identical to every other exotic crafted sword. This is how the game is right now.

Now imagine this: A player spends his time gathering mats, gaining skill in his craft, until he’s finally ready. Hes at max level weaponsmithing, ready to create an awesome exotic quality sword. He puts all his mats together, feels a sense of accomplishment, and creates his own masterpiece weapon. HE is the one forging it, so HE is the one who decides what it looks like. He wants a pommel with a small red gem in it. He wants a hilt with a black leather grip. He wants a standard crossguard. He wants a shiny, long blade that has a slight curve. He now decides he wants his crossguard to be a bit ornate. After a few minutes, he is done, his brand new sword is complete, and it is unlike any other sword made before, because HE is the one who made it.

We can customize our armor to a degree with the dye system. Why can we not customize the weapons that WE are making? Why should every sword we craft look the same? Why should we have to seek out a skin we like instead of tweaking our weapon during the creation process to our liking? Perhaps even make it so that the look of your sword (or whatever weapon you are making) is based on different crafting components: for example, you have an Orichalcum Straight Blade, or you can make an Ori Curved Blade, or a Jagged Blade, or whatever, and combine it with a hilt that looks like this or that or whatever.
The other option would be to have customizing a weapon similar to making a guild emblem. You have a bunch of options that you mix and match until you get what you like.

The basics of the idea have been laid out, I’m sure ArenaNet could take this much much farther, and I’m sure everyone would LOVE to see something like this.

People seem to be confusing difficulty with tediousness. I’m fine with a difficult jp where you have to revise the way you do things and be efficient to complete it. I’m not ok with a tedious jp where you essentially have to get lucky and/or have boosters to complete it.

Meaning this puzzle was fine for you then? Not once did I feel like I ‘got lucky’, nor did I use any boost of any sort. Its not, “Oh the green mist rose up too fast, I’m unlucky” It’s, “The green mist rose up before I got there, because I didn’t react and move efficiently enough at the beginning.” There is no luck in this, its whether or not you can react well.

This is what ruined WoW…people complaining about how its too hard or too easy for the casuals or hardcores and wanting difficulty change which would make the other group mad, back and forth and back and forth…I spent 4.5 hours on this puzzle, do I think it should be made easier? No, not at all. It’s things like these that make you really appreciate the time put into this game, and it makes the reward mean something. I don’t know if anyone else saw it, but the creator of the puzzle, Josh Foreman, commented on a Youtube video, “Dang, great job. I built this map and I was thinking maybe 5% of people would make it to the top. Did not expect success vids within a couple hours! ?” This makes me proud knowing I completed a puzzle that even the creator thought was very difficult.

I was wondering that “5%” came from… got a link?

Josh’s comment is a bit buried, 20th from the bottom I think. He also has many other comments on the video.

Josh, if you read this, I’d like to say I think its absolutely awesome that you are out in the community like that, talking to people about your work on places other than guild wars sites. Also, I cannot wait to see what you come up with for the next holiday jumping puzzle.

I can only get 2/4 for some reason, I have been to all 4 areas, and neither Lunatic or Reaper’s increased the counter.

Edit: Nevermind, upon leaving Reaper’s and getting back to the Labyrinth again, my counter was at 3/4. I’m assuming this means the 4th is to come in a later act?
