LOVE the Leaderboards - but lets improve

First of all, let me say congratulations on setting up the leaderboards. It is something I feel is so important to have in a competitive game. It will give a whole new meaning to WvW and sPvP.

On the other hand, I would like to point out that the PvE leaderboards are a little too simple compared to the other two. We have all known for a long time that achievement points are about how many dailys you grind and how much gold you toss in the agent of entropy bucket. May I suggest a few categories for PvE leaderboards, similar to how you divided the PvP and WvW?

1. Total Achievement Points – just as it sounds
2. GW2 Achievements – that is the total achievement points minus the repeatables (dailies, monthlies, entropy etc.) and minus the Hall of Monuments. This would be a comparison of what a player has achieved ingame.
3. Grindbot – total achievement points from repeatable achievements, possibly give as a monthly ranking
4. Endgame Dungeon Hero – the highest fractal level completed

What do you think? Total achievements are really only a reflection of time spent at the computer, directly proportional to “/age”. Highest fractal level is a direct indication of skill, and GW2 Achievements would be for the explorers/completionists who would rather get all the achievements than simply grind agent of entropy.

PvE Leaderboards - Latecomers have no chance.

I made the same post several times in the suggestions. And this from the makers of GW1!! Are you kidding me?

Look at how in the final days of GW1, with the hall of monuments, people were playing 24/7 to get achievements. When someone had 38/50, you knew that it was someone who actually achieved something. Someone who did missions in hard mode, someone who completed endgame instances, and it meant something. And everyone was so jealous of “champion of the Gods”.

Best part, I know people that did it in 6 months. They bought the game, put in 800 hours of total play time and got 50/50. And this is years after the release. It still takes a long time (800 hours), but everyone has the chance to get there, no matter when they join and even if they have jobs and real lives and can’t grind dailies every day. So, why throw a perfectly good achievement point system out the window in favour of one where lots of gold + salvage kits = agent of entropy and a million achievement points.

FIX - Achievement Points and PvP Ranking

Rakuren, do you think its fair that someone who did not buy the game at launch can NEVER catch up with you, as long as you keep doing dailies every day? Because that is what you are saying. He should have bought the game at release and grinded dailies every single day, and not taken even one day off from GW. This is ridiculous. I am not a farm-bot, as I imagine many others are not. There are times when you want a few days or even weeks off from guild wars. There are holidays when you want to go to a nice warm country and spend time at the beach, away from the internet. Does that mean you should be eternally punished with never being able to compete with the people who have time to do dailys every day?

Most Annoying Mesmer Bug EVER

Hey,

I have been playing Mesmer since beta weeked 1, and spend very little time on other classes. There is this one bug that has been around since BWE1, which I reported back then, and again since. This bug is, the infamous:

Phase Retreat into a wall!!
There are many places around the world where using a phase retreat can be deadly, getting you stuck inside a wall with no way out. Sometimes you can get out with a portal or the sideways displacement from Mirror Images, but not always. In fact, sometimes it forces you to restart personal story quests, as you cannot get out of a wall and continue onward.
What has been done to fix this?
Well, before, when phase retreat would teleport you backwards, you could at least aim for an open space and not a wall. But that got “fixed”. Phase retreat now just teleports you away from the mob you are targetting. So, if you are killing a large group of dredge, in a fractal for example, and you autogarget the wrong one, then “puff” you are inside a wall and your teammates are pulling a dredge to the wall so that he can down you with an AoE attack, so that you can use downed skill 2, and hopefully random-blink out of the wall.
Mesmers have been decorating the insides of Tyria’s walls since beta weekend 1…

FIX - Achievement Points and PvP Ranking

The problem:

1. PvP ranking says how much time you have to play and how many boosters you use, not how good you are.
2. Achievement points say how much time you have to do daily’s every day, not how many rare and difficult feats you have achieved.

This is bad. But people simply ignored the PvP rank and achievement points as meaningless, and that was the end of it. Now, with the idea to implement leaderboards showing these statistics, they are brought back into the spotlight. Here are suggestions on how to make these stats have a purpose:

1. Remove daily and monthly from achievements (laurel rewards and all can stay, just no achievement points). Now, achievement points will indicate what you have ACHIEVED rather than how much you sit in front of your PC.
2. Make tournaments affect PvP rank. Or, create a new ranking system where you get points for beating people better than you and lose points for getting defeated by people worse than you. Implement it as a tournament-only rank, and show that on the leaderboards rather that the simple grind-based rank.

These are small changes, especially taking the dailies and monthlies out of the achievement points, but they help so much towards having a real competitive leaderboards system – both for 13 year olds who come home from school and spend 12 hours in front of their computer and for those with jobs and obligations who can only spend one or two hours, every other day.

And what do those two games have in common? They were both released more than 8 years ago. They had enough time to have these things built.

What’s wrong with 3rd sites anyway?

It’s like asking what’s wrong with a rusty pinto when you can have a brand new vehicle of your choice.

Yea I mean you can ride around in the Pinto and it has it’s charms I’m sure, but its lacking a lot features that should be in any car you buy today.

poetic!
Yes, its no praise to the game developers if the players are forced to use a a bunch of external sites for things as simple as finding a group to do a dungeon. I really like this game, and GW1 too, and I would really like to see these very simple functional tools in the game.

You log in to play some Guild Wars 2. You want to do your daily fractal run and then go for some WvW with your guild. First step, you log on to gw2lfg.com because you can find a party on there in a matter of seconds. Then its time for WvW, and rather than seeing your world’s ranking ingame, you go to guildwars2guru.com. After that, you go to guildwarstemple.com and check on the spawn time for the Shatterer for your server. The rare item from the fight, you salvage, get an ectoplasm and then check gw2spidy.com to see financial trends on the auction house.

Why?

Is it such a grand undertaking to put these functions into the game? Others have.
WoW has a fast and efficient group making function for dungeons!
Entropia Universe has a proper auction house where one can see trends and is a real treat for the players who like to “play” on the auction house.
And most games allow you to see a ladder ingame.

What do you think? Can’t all this be put into the game, so that I do not need 4 tabs on my chrome open while playing GW2?
