Can’t fault a man and his experience. It may well be my card then. I have an old 9600 GSO? Reckon that’d be a fair card to test on? I haven’t had a single crash for a long time by turning down my settings.
It’s saddening because it’s a pretty decent card and the fact it’s doing this is very annoying.
For the time being I have had to stick my settings on the absolute bare minimum in order for it to work on PvE. I only got the game recently and it worked perfectly until around level 20ish which is when I first got it. Been getting it ever since.
I’ve also tried in Windowed mode at a much lower resolution, still happens.
It’s very strange.
It seems you’re not here to help, instead you’re criticising posts. Please stop posting in this thread unless you actually have something constructive to contribute towards our problem. Thanks.
I have failed to point out this problem doesn’t occur in WvW for me in this thread. It is something I mentioned to Tech Support. So my story hasn’t changed I just failed to mention it here.
That systems better than mine and I run high at 60fps…
To answer your question, it’ll run pretty well at high settings although you might need to slightly turn down some options if you plan on entering WvW.
@abomally
How many times do I have to repeat myself?
>>>MY TEMPERATURES ARE LOW, THIS DOESN’T OCCUR WITH OTHER GAMES<<<
I can play WvW without any interruptions, this is at the factory overclocked speeds. This problem only occurs in PvE regardless of what I do.
Ergo, it’s not my card.
Tech Support have clearly ruled out that possibility as they’re asking me to change the speeds of both my RAM and CPU which I will be doing tomorrow.
Also, how is asking to try other games that use similar resources irrelevant? It’s perfectly relevant. If you’re going to troubleshoot our problem for us it’d be a great idea to tell us similar games so that we can test our systems with them.

Well, so far so good? I’ve just done the story mission where you play in the massive golem suit. This would usually cause the problem just as I would land from the air drop.
Touch wood what I’ve done has worked, I really am enjoying this game without the interruptions.
No, it doesn’t fix it. It only prolonged the time between crashes for a small amount of time. Swapped it back to the settings I had before.
If the card were defective, it would happen with all the other games I play. No?
Also, Retsuko. I’ve tried that one, it didn’t work. There is only one folder normally under something like X:\Users\XXXX\AppData\Local\Temp. It’ll be called gw2cache.
I’ve been talking to support for quite some time now, they’ve had me install at least 5 seperate programs so they can analyze my system and I’ve just been told that my Bus Speed is underclocked as is my RAM Frequency. So I slightly overclocked them and actually got a good 2 hours in until the next crash.
Surely overclocking it only just over the stock speeds would not cause this anyway? I’ve been told by them that it could make the system unstable just like it was when it was underclocked.
I’ve decided to stick with what I’ve got the speeds currently set to as I believe that what they ask of me is too much hassle and won’t result in anything. I hate jumping through hoops to making something work that I have paid for.
I have read through so many forum threads now regarding similar issues to ours and a lot of the time AVG pops up. Disabling AVG or completely removing it has solved this problem for a lot of people. I myself have uninstalled it and I’m currently running the software that comes with Windows 8. (Windows Defender/MSE)
Will keep this updated with results.
Does yours recover, Guns and Giblets? Every time it’s happened to me I’ve waited a good few minutes, given up and had to restart. I’d be happy to just have your interruptions as I’m not a regular to WvW yet. Haha.
Does it completely turn off or do your fans still stay spinning and the monitor gives you a message like no video input but you still have background music from your computer?
I only ever notice this issue when a thief does that smoke skill thing that they have and it’s in the foreground. Otherwise, I don’t notice it at all. :/
Have you tried turning off reflections? I found that dramatically increased my fps in all areas.
Running a HD7770.

Glad it is sorted for you. Still happens for me but it’s not as often thankfully. In the middle of talking to support about it. Hopefully they can help.
Scratch that. It has allowed me to play longer but it’s still occurring. At a loss now, absolutely no idea what to do.
Glad to hear it ^^. Happy gaming!
Alright guys, I THINK I might have a solution. I have downclocked my GPU settings ever so slightly and I have a slight increase in performance of about 5-10 FPS. I have also been able to play for about an hour and a half. Before it would have been for a couple of minutes.
Here’s what I changed:
Disabled Reflections (Don’t think that you NEED to do this but it definitley increased my performance.
Using MSI Afterburner, (You can also use the settings in your ATI Catalyst Control center or the NVIDIA control panel) I decreased my Clock Speed from 1120 to 1100 and decreased the memory speed from 1300 to 1200.
This may not be the solution, but it’s allowed me to play for longer. I hope that this information can help anyone else out.

Give it a go, from the time of my last post to the time of this post I played the game solid and finally got somewhere with my character without it cutting out. Looks like the problem has been solved on my end.

I have also been able to play for the past 20 minutes rather than a couple of minutes before. Will continue to play for a while longer and post back with results.

Will keep this thread updated on the situation after a few hours of gameplay. (If I manage it)

Same here, Fathme. Another thing is that the fan noise from my computer reduces when it occurs. As if it is booting up again, like you said.
If you discover anything whilst talking to the tech support, don’t forget to post here. Haha. I will do the same if I find anything.
It’s now gotten to the point where I literally cannot play the game for more than 5 minutes without it cutting out…
If it were that simple, it’d be happening with other games. This is not the case, unfortunately.
Glad to see I’m not the only one suffering. I’ve only just recently obtained the game myself and it started when I tried out the Shadow Behemoth for the first time. The connection lagged out (due to the amount of people there) and my monitor blacked out and displayed the message ‘No video detected’ – Since, it has increased in frequency and has gotten to the stage where I cannot progress further in the story line.
I have tried different drivers, I have updated DirectX, I have deleted local.dat, I have ran as admin, I have ran in compatibility mode.
I’m at a loss as to what I should do next. Is there more stable, previous version of drivers that people tend to use for this game?
I’ve just played BF3 for the past 5 hours and not had a single problem. Very peculiar.
I will try re-seating the card today and swapping PCI-E connectors to see if it makes a difference.

Yeh, tried that one. My settings were already set to that.
You’re not alone. I too am experiencing this problem with the same card and the same operating system. Hope a fix surfaces soon.
I’d also like to add, this is similar to the black screen issue. However I have the ATI catalyst control center set to use Application Settings. Which is supposedly the fix to it.
Hello,
Recently I have fixed my computer after the processor had burnt out. I purchased GW2 and everything was fine for about a day. At completely random moments, my monitor turns black and displays the message ‘No Video Signal’ I still hear the ambient sounds like my music and the background sounds of GW2 but no action, say I were in a fight, upon the screen turning black, all fighting sounds would stop.
I restart the computer via the reset button on the front and carry on as normal, it’s not much of a bother as my PC boots up fairly quick but it is annoying if I am in the middle of an event and I miss out on the rewards because it decided to crap out on me.
After monitoring the GPU and CPU temps for a good 4 hours, nothing is abnormal. They are pretty stable, mid temps and aren’t the reason for this. I have tried with the most recent ATI drivers and the beta ATI drivers. Neither make a difference.
I do not get this with any other game. Just Guild Wars 2.
Also, will this reduce the lifetime of my GPU if it continues?
I hope that someone can help me with this,
Thanks.
(Running an XFX 7770 Black Edition.) – I’m listing just the GPU for now as I am certain that it is a GPU error.
