You can use any level gear as a transmutation to achieve any look you want, outside of the skins that drop on level 80 gear.

I’m interested to know if anyone has interesting Staff Sigil ideas for the Phantasm Shatter / Hybrid spec, after you stack the Sigil of Perception. It’s a wasted sigil at that point once you get 25 stacks, so I have no problems carrying another staff — Accuracy, perhaps? Or maybe one of the more fun ones like Energy or Fire. I’m still getting used to being squishy in this build, so I can’t make a good call on this. I am used to carrying around a host of weapons (that’s how I take my Guardian through dungeons). WvW is less flexible since many battles occur without warning, but it would be nice to stop using the stacking sigil once it’s complete. What works for all of you guys who roam in small groups out there?

Swiftness > lock on target > blink beside it > then it becomes very excited for me… The skill Phase retreat has to be used. And here things go wrong for me.

Not forward? I watched youre movie multiple times and realy looked the skills when to use. And tried it for 2 hrs with no succes. So where does it go wrong for me?
Is there a setting that needs to be changed? Please help me.

I recall Osi mentioning he bound a key to instantly turn the camera 180 degrees. If you hit this right before triggering Phase Retreat, you should blink towards the target, assuming you were facing it before. You can hit the key again to turn around.

I wear a Soldier’s Helm, rest Knights armor, and Soldier Runes on all 6. For Trinkets, I wear a Soldiers backpiece (capacitor) and Knights Earrings, and a Soldier+ Berserker Fractal ring. I keep my crit % at around 45% + 5% from some Sigil of Accuracy weapons that I occasionally equip. Combined with Omnomberry Pies, I steal 300-400 health for 1/3 of all my attacks from enemies, and there is no cooldown on this. In addition, I grant might on crit (1s cooldown unfortunately) and heal from that, combined with all the other AH benefits.

I used to rock full Soldier’s armor, but found that maintaining the 20k+ HP was not viable during longer engagements – I couldn’t heal that high and my teammates never got me to 20k. It just gave me a good crutch going in the fight, but my skill has improved and I can drop to 16 / 17k health without an issue. Knights armor actually granted me more toughness which is a slight reduction to damage taken, I just need to keep condition removal available for emergencies. The precision combined with the food buff is great in dungeons and attacking zergs in WvW. I switch equipped weapons often depending on the fight – if I have many enemies, I do GS / Staff, if I have a single target like a boss, I keep distance and range them with a Scepter or get close with a Hammer/Mace/Sword.

The weakness with this build is in soloing- without allies to grant boons, AH becomes less useful. Also, if I’m fighting 1 mobile enemy, it’s tough to steal health since I have less targets to crit, forcing me into weapons that have rapid attacks. In larger mob groups with a decent team, my damage output, healing, and boon application melts NPCs while keeping the team topped off health and power wise – it’s great group synergy.

The only other build I experimented with is full Clerics, which provides the smallest HP pool but allows me to sustain myself in longer engagements. It doesn’t provide as much benefit to the team (though it makes Virtue of Resolve amazing) but is a great WvW / PvP option. If you stick to weapons that attack rapidly, even with a small crit %, you can still keep Vigor up, which is great for the Selfless Daring (heal on dodge) trait, combined with Sigils of Energy.

It comes down to your playstyle and the role you want to fill!

The fractals currently are in a day cycle, although I see the potential to change it so that the times get properly reflected. If I manage to find time for it, I’ll try to get a fix in for it.
As for explaining which are which for dungeons, I’ll leave that to the community to do.

Thanks for keeping all this up-to-date Osi. I enjoy the fact that you prioritize player skill over anything else when walking through tactics/videos/strategy. I did have a question regarding gear on the hybrid spec gear, though:

Which piece of armor did you use for Knights and Valkyrie? Some armor gives higher stats than others, which is why I ask what your thoughts on that were – I haven’t had the chance to crunch the numbers and figure it all out. Since Precision gives % in multiples of 21, sometimes it’s important to fine-tune it so none of the Prec is wasted.

Also, what do you recommend for the Backpiece? I plan on getting another capacitor most likely.

When you roam with a build like this (solo or with small group) what food / tuning items have worked well?

I’m trying to decide carefully on how to play a Mesmer that has good trait-trees for also running Fractals – I think this is a good build but I would have to be careful due to the squishiness of the BZ gear. High skill bar indeed.

I ran into the plush griffon zerg Quaggan tonic style peg legs blazing and it was quite lulzy, but the aggressive non tonic BG pugs ruined it pretty fast -.-

We had fun running that BTW – Doomdesire – we totally flipped out on the BG pug who attacked you, many :’( and NOs were spammed all at once. We thought it was the best thing ever when we bumped into you.

I experienced my first true loss tonight at the hands of SoR. My guild put quite a bit of work into securing Redwater tower and supply camp on our BL a few hours ago. We did a pretty good job of it too. I personally put a bit of money into siege and upgrades for each, and I felt quite good about it. I was actually contributing to the server’s progress.

And then our meager 10-12 man guild team got rolled over by an SoR zerg 3/4 of the way through our upgrades. We held out for a decent while, but the end was inevitable without any support from any of our zergs (still kind of sad that not even one of the two very close groups came to assist).

But oh well. It felt good to actually make a contribution finally. It sucked to have it taken away so hopelessly, but hey. It was fun. Thanks for the challenge, SoR. We’ll be back to take over some obscure tower again real soon.

It was probably a good time for me to sign off that night, we did good work though. Some of the evenly-matched skirmishes with SoR were pretty fun. This WvW matchup has been fun on all the borderlands, culling issues aside. Hopefully we get matched up with IoJ and SoR again next week!

Thanks for the responses! I’ll link this thread and let my buddies know this weekend, we will probably just contact the guild directly once we decide – it might end up being completely random, since most responses are nice laid-back groups.

My friends and I are all fairly recent (within 4 years) graduates from college and working in various cities on the east coast. We mostly play on hours ranging from 5PM-1AM Eastern on weekdays and anytime on a Sat/Sunday. Currently all of us are on Isle of Janthir but are willing to switch to another NA server if the guild is a good fit.

What are we looking for? A enthusiastic PvX guild mostly interested in encouraging team WvW play, dungeons, and generally friendly/helpful/a bit mature. We would prefer an active, established or promising guild with a website – especially with active forums – it’s a great way to organize events and chat once in a while, as well as help each other out when we cannot actually be playing the game.

The seven of us use Mumble and would like to join a guild that utilizes Mumble/TS/Vent for WvW or dungeons – I’m personally not going to sit in guild voice chat unless playing with the guild (I talk enough at work as it is!) so as long as being in voice chat whenever I’m online is NOT mandatory, that’s fine.

If you have a guild like this in a NA server with availability for 7, please post a link/info so we can look!

Yes please, I would love the hide/show headgear option to apply to the char selection screen. I think it worked this was in GW1.

In particular, this has happened several times when using my Guardian. When the 1H Sword is equipped and I use the 2nd skill [Flashing Blade] I sometimes get ‘stuck’ inside certain items. For example, in the Plains of Ashford, when I disable Flame Legion Power Sources, the Ember comes out to fight. I usually open by using Flashing Blade which teleports me to the enemy – in this case, I teleport INSIDE the Flame Legion Power Source, and the camera zooms. I cannot jump, move, or conventionally escape. I can still rotate and use ranged attacks to some effectiveness, but the camera is extremely twitchy/zoomed in, making it hard to even do that. The only methods of escape are using Flashing Blade again in the hopes that it brings me out, or using a waypoint. Logging off/on does not fix this, nor do commands like /stuck.
