Chests Loot: Where are the Yellows (Rares)? [Event Loot Suggestions]

Regardless of which side of the hypothetical fence you may reside; magic find helping or not helping chance at “better loot” upon opening a dungeon chest, one thing seems clear to me, and that is, rares (weapons and armor) have seemed to be left out of the loot table.

1. Greens Greens and more Greens: This seems to be the common chest loot these days, and I can understand that this very well should be the majority of what is found in a chest but, why is this it? I remember discovering many more yellow items earlier in the game from chests, and I have a sneaking suspicion that this was changed.

(I have a magic find rating of about 145% which I know isn’t the highest rating out there but should certainly qualify me for the occasional rare. Especially when 0% magic find has gotten me exotics (1 randomly dropped from a mob which is moot for this topic, 2 looted from chests).

2. Ok, fair enough… I did get that one yellow rune of the soldier thingy:

Again, why is this to be the rare representative across the board? I think that receiving a few more yellows may, at the very least alleviate some of the frustrations that we didn’t get that exotic we pray for. I can’t imagine that Anet is just being purposefully stingy… right? Uh, right?!

3. Wow, an Exotic?
I actually have gotten more exotic lately out of chests than I rares to the tune of about 200% (2) more. So, Why the gap? Well, I am almost certain it has something to do with a mystic forge thingy, globs of ecto-stuff, economics and market places. But, all of that aside. Rares are supposed to be much easier to come by than exotics, why not put some back in the loot tables for chests?

4. So am I greedy?
Well, yes. But, I think I would be considerably less greedy if the economy was patched up, and new strategies were implemented to avoid widening the gap between have and have-nots, and felt as if I could, from a chest, get something that was an upgrade to my current set of gear. There are lots of cool “Of the Night” Rare weapons that we could be receiving, why not a Mad King Rare armor set that is a little easier to come by than the exotic set? Wouldn’t this still make the exotics valuable and help to fill in a bit of the gap between the greens and orange drops?

Conclusion: So, I understand that it is more appealing to a lvl 80 to get an exotic, but I think another truly satisfying experience is finding a rare in a chest and swapping it out with what you are wearing because it may be a great improvement. Plus, what are the lower levels to do with the exotic they got from the even setting in their inventory? I mean, my lvl 35 Necro has no business owning lvl 80 exotic boots, I would gladly exchange them for a sweet rare staff I can start using immediately.

I'm actually in shock over how much effort was put into this event

Agreed. All in all, this was clearly a solid effort. I can’t wait for the last event on the 31st, and yet I wish it was all sticking around a bit longer. Anet, your developers deserve a large round of applause. Can’t wait to see what is lined up for Thanksgiving, Xmas, and most importantly, my birthday.

Aren’t they all just cosmetic items?

Why is this such a huge deal to you?

Well, it isn’t a huge deal when it comes down to say, stats or what have you. The big deal is that they are cosmetic items that only a very few people can get with gold. It doesn’t matter how much you play or participate. What I am saying is that there needs to be some kick back, cosmetic or otherwise for participating. Why make really cool stuff that only a handful of people can obtain with gold only? Cosmetic or not, it just doesn’t make sense in terms of such a short seasonal event. Like I said, it is a tactic, and I understand the reasoning. It is like the Mystic Forge Conduit, in that, although it is an artifact that was obtained by those that could get one (myself included), its main utility was to effect the game economy and drain the lower tier resources and money from players. I salute elegant solutions, but in the case of the Halloween items, they didn’t even try to cater to anyone without copious amounts of gold. It is obvious, and well, fair enough but, it still doesn’t mean that we can all be in agreement that this tactic was a savory one.

Well seeing that this is a 4 ACT event, isn’t likely that you only budged that little bit because you have only completed 1 of 4 event Acts? Just a thought?

One solution would be having some kind of Halloween token, like a dungeon token that you could use to purchase permanent event items with. This would make them exclusive but accessible to those who actually participated. But, I suppose we will have to see what the rest of the ACTS bring.. I am just trying to log in, have fun, and not worry about it.

Is it apparent to anyone else how much a a blatant attempt at draining the wealth from the economy these Halloween exotics are? Over-all, I am really excited about the event but, how can you justify using a component like 100x Crystal Lodestones currently selling for 1g 35s each? Basically, you are saying to the community. "Hey we have something new for the rich players who got lucky acquiring and selling ‘of rage’ pre-reqs and something no one else will be able to afford or get (especially during this short-time event). I say this because I am certain Arenanet didn’t increase the drop rate for these crystals during this event.

Like I said, I like the thought and creativity that was put into the event but, I have a suggestion for the developers, something that might sound a little novel; make the event items obtainable by anyone who puts in effort and time playing through the this short-term for fun event. REWARD US FOR STICKING AROUND AND PLAYING THIS GAME and stop releasing cash cows into the economy that no one beside the GW2 1% can afford. I understand that you are trying to wrangle back control of your runaway economy but, for god’s sake, there are other ways to accomplish this without a gold to exclusive item trade-off. If you are uncertain how you can accomplish this, I would be more than happy to lend you my time, free of charge to consult with you on this issue…. on second thought, scratch that, that will be 100x Crystal Lodestones please.

Post Script: Just for the record, if I had 100 Lodestones, I would sell them. With 136 gold, I would just barely be able to buy one of each of the event skins.

Post Post Script: Once again, I really love the event, I just thought that we would be rewarded a little bit more for taking part in it. It is tough enough already to eek out an existence, afford certain items, etc. I just think that events like these shouldn’t take the players time and resources for granted. That is all.
