Maybe look at gw2’s front page where they explain diff classes…And they say the following about warrior…
Warriors are masters of weaponry who rely on speed, strength, toughness, and heavy armor to survive in battle. Adrenaline fuels their offensive power—the longer warriors stay in a fight, the more dangerous they become.
did you read that.. ? They rely on S P E E D.
So,all is working as intended.
It also says that the Ranger is the “unparalleled archer”…
The general feeling I have is that they don’t care what players want. They follow a business model where temp content is a showcase to the gem market.
I feel the same as the OP about playing a game called Guild Wars with no guild oriented content, like GvG wars. We have the guild missions but those became old really fast.
Overall the communication between dev teams and players is really bad. Most of the time you see none participating in the debates. Time to time a post from someone from Anet saying nothing interesting or important enough to matter.
There are so many good ideas in the forum to make the game more fun to play but there is none at the other side listening or willing to consider a different point of view.
With time that “hurt” you feel right now becomes resignation and then indifference.
+1. Please focus the effort in making the game better permanently.
- Open world GvG
- Housing
- Guild Halls
- Character progression
- Better lengendaries (more powerful, better skins, pink unicorns! come on!)
- Remove randomness from precursors
- Fix the Ranger (tired of seeing “no bow rangers” in the LFG messages)
- Ascended armor
- Anti-train content (Karka, FG train running all day long, so boring)
- Re-playable story / be able to change banners. Make the decision impact the game in some way that matters.
- New, interesting, rewarding, quests that award something useful but a different skin.
- Fix WvW. Now the biggest zerg wins because everything is so balanced to the point to be boring, obvious and predictable.
- Fix the Ranger (yes again!)
- Hire a new Leader designer or make him play a ranger with a bow for a month.
I don’t miss it. Please add more lasting content you can actually enjoy if you are not able to play the game during long (a month) time period.
The “New topic” action would open a form like this but instead of a big text area I would add some specific text areas with a limited length of characters for each and other controls such as the graphics for votes count. This way every thread has the same format.
Title: text box 100
Category: Drop down list (Living story, general PvP, general PvE, class, etc.)
Can be replied: Check box. (if you just want to check the votes and avoid the discussion). This would limit only common users because a dev should be able to say “this is not possible because… game engine”.
Description: text area 250
Votes count: horizontal bars with %
Every month the dev team could take the most voted (feasible) suggestions and implement them.
ANet does not have to “guess” what their customers want. With the proper communication channels you could avoid forum intoxication, give your customers the tool to tell the dev/design teams what we are expecting from the game to be enjoyable, lasting and focus there instead of trying to find the silver bullet and going through the experimentation method in every change implemented. Happy customers yield more profit obviously. More gems, new players and a healthier community that thinks and knows the company cares.
There are tons of smaller, cheaper, easier things GW2 could include to improve its depth. The forum is full of ideas and suggestions. The general feeling is there is none at the other end listening. I simply don’t understand why NCSoft would opt to lose tons of money just to defend a group of the most stubborn game designers I have ever seen in a MMO. They still want Rangers to use torches and great swords. Unbelievable. Wardrobe main windows points to… nothing and you need to confirm the use of free, reversible at any time, cost free dyes you already unlocked. All the time and money wasted to release 2 weeks content that you won’t be able to play aver again if you took vacations.
They have everything to succeed. A beautiful game, smooth, with a good player base, “lag free”, a collaborative community and here we are discussing if sub-classes can bring the game back to life, really? Why not open world GvG, guild halls, introduce politics and territory domination, housing, new armor and weapons, worthy rewards, improved AI, nooooope, they want you to grind for a year to craft a pink bow that shoot flowers and hits the same as any other 1% cost bow. Answer: don’t craft it. Complaint: but its supposed to be the ultimate, coolest weapon in its class, you are killing the game with these things!
Sadly one day you see a big banner “GW2 50% OFF!” in the front page.
I want this game to succeed, I couldn’t tell how much I do.
Fully-On-topic: sub-classes are not the way, too many things to address first, balance, lore, role playing.
A change like this would ruin the game completely. Cloaked warriors, LB wielding eles, a complete mess. If you want to play a different class go create a new toon.
The Point of secondarty professions is Not a new toon. As you explained. A warrior/thief is not equal to playing a warrior for a couple Hours, then logging off, and then logging On a thief. it’s playing a stealthed warrior.
Secondly, so what if it makes Play more complex and Interesting? Isn’t that what we crave from games? Complexity?
Chess is amazing because of complexity, when is the last time you heard about who won the world’s tic-tac-toe championship?
I get your point and good intentions to bring new life to the game but think about balancing. It would be epic to balance so many weapons, traits, skills combinations. Imagine the tsunami of complaints. They hardly can implement a wardrobe system that works. I believe they have not intentions nor human resources to implement a change like this one. They couldn’t even fix the Ranger class where you are forced to play as a melee class imagine multi-classes. Chess is amazing true, but pawns move forward only right? Now imagine a chess game where any piece can move anywhere.
PS: As Conncept said, complexity is a cost. As a senior software developer I can assure you that.

1- Open world guild wars like in Lineage 2
2- New skins for legendary bows. They are too girlish, unappealing for a game where the majority of the players are men. Shooting rainbows or flowers from a pink bow is depressing.
+1 precursors inside AP chests. 7.5k or 10k.
First of all thanks for this opportunity.
1) Too much content and no time to digest it. This is becoming more like a job than a game. I am starting to feel that “I must” log in to the game to be up to date and not miss the… title, achievement, etc.
2) Living world content poorly designed. Bosses to hard to kill. It becomes boring hitting the same NPC for 20 minutes or be instant killed by them like the Lich or Corn bosses. The Horror tracks you all over the map and re-spawn in the middle of a fight with another bosses. Is boring or frustrating.
3) Please add a wardrobe or something to store the armor sets. The inventory is full of peaces of armor. A way to switch them would be nice too like “WvW/Pve/Pvp” or something like that.
4) I am stacking badges of honor for what? Make something cool to spend them. If I killed 200.000 enemies I want to look cooler than the one who killed 10. Wvs is not rewarding. Each new level gives you some greens or yellows and blue prints.. and 8s… Why not every 10 lvls add 10+ range for example or +10 vitality.
5) What is the intend of the titles in WvW? None stands to read them “Hey look a squire be careful” You just look for green or red. Make something distinguishable from a certain distance. Grade scales for the name, icons or whatever.
6) I can´t see my mate´s titles in WvW. I want to follow a guy who knows what he is doing (spending 100 g don´t give you that).
7) Long lasting content pls. Unique useful items as rewards pls. Like portal to any mayor city if you completed all the hearts, exploration, quest 1, 2, and 4 in that city. If you kill 1000 x monster then you can place a trophy of it in your house.
8) Home instance? Too big, to crowded with npcs I don´t want. Make something smaller, customizable like a small keep with a waypoint, npcs to trade, nodes, trees in the yard, plants to harvest all acquired by doing quest, challenges. I took a screenshot. I want to place a picture with it in the wall. I don´t want to look for the waypoint of my home instance in the map. Add a skill to go to it pls. You could also create a toolbar with favourity waypoints “kitten up! ok let me scroll yes north east… be there in a … SORRY dead!” The first “free” waypoint could be Lions Arch.
9) I don´t feel a bond with my character or the story. I hardly remember it. I would like him to improve with the time spent in the game. Its like everyone is a copy of you with a different look and knowing that is sad.
I´m tired of changing my play style every month. Its annoying and frustrating. “Pick GS then hit 1+3+4, then switch back to SB fart and jump the press 1 and roll if you can do that then you´ll be as good as a warrior pressing 1”. Answer: “play a warrior then tadaaa!”, NO, i like bows, archers, and “pew”. Answer: “Well rangers suck dpsing with bows pick a GS”, NO! BOW! Answer: “We decided to nerf SB so then you have no choice than playing with a GS”. AAAAaa!!! Answer: “Ok then when you hit 3 with the LB you become stealth!” NOOO! I said bow+archer not a thief. Answer: “Well the things is that when we wrote Ranger´s intro we didn´t mean unparalleled archers literally. Either way users don´t know what they want and always complain BUT we do care so in the next patch rangers will wear heavy armor to be able to take more damage while tanking with the GS”.
GW2 is becoming more like a QC job than an enjoyable game.
My feedback.
Sigh… Yes Ranger doesn’t = Range Apparently
But in Guildwars 2 the Profession Ranger DOES equal a ranged class, read all the descriptions for the class and yes in GW2 Ranger = Ranged class…
Here we go again. The description is that they are unparalleled archers. That description is accurate. That does not, however, mean that they are a “ranged class”. This designation does not exist in this (and many other games) like it does in WoW and people just need to get it out of their minds.
The classes have a lot more thought put behind them than “this is a ranged class” and “this is a melee class”. Welcome to a more cerebral game.
Why don´t you tell all the ppl who gather materials and spent a lot of time and effort to craft The Dreamer to use a sword, ah?
Tell all that ppl that they won´t be playing Legolas but Aragorn despite the ranger´s profession description telling you “pick this if you want to play with a bow”.
Can´t you get it dude? It´s about play style not if you can be good or not with the profession.
You made dozens of post clarifying your thouths, ok.
“Welcome to a more cerebreal game”? wtf that means? Get yours attended before posting the same thing over and over and insulting ppl who thinks different than you.
Can´t you people understand that if someone chooses a ranger is looking to hit foes from afar, kitting the “unparalleled archer”. Honestly i can´t understand those who say “BUT YOU CAN USE A GREAT SWORD!” come on guys, what else would you pick if you want to use a bow? A warrior? A necro? It´s as simple as that.
My fellow ranger stop acting like victims. Anet may be the creator of the game but they are not your daddy. You are giving tools and its you job to find a place in this world for yourself and the tools your given.
Yes some of the other classes are have a specific role. These roles are obvious and kind of pigeon wholes them in those roles. While the some rolls come easier to some class than others Ranger an able to will them all. Some roles better than others. While we may not be the be we adapt better than another class. For me that is our role the jack of trades.
For most of you balance is only about damage. It is not. You can QQ all you want about the short bow neft but really the buff is better. Like most of your damage was done at 900+ range.
Yes thieves target rangers but but the lose or win is based on your skill not your class. With that said a thief is easier to play.
People can complain about the Lb. The damage on the long bow has always been better that short bow at max range. The problem was it’s hard to keep that range.
You can QQ about the pet nerf to but its part of the balancing. We recieved pet buff last patch. With those buff it was determined pets were a bit to strong.
As for WvW the axe change is great. Being able to pull enemys from1200 is great. It easy to pull two invaders for a quick kill out of the enemy zerge.
Those of you who dont test the new change and just look at the number are the ones in disspear. I have even heard that beast master are doing better with the changes. (I wouldnt personally know).
It takes time to fully understand the changes in updates. Most of you havent even given it a weekend for things to develope.
Every single patch ranger cry that we have been nerfed even further. The fact is this the ranger class is better today than it was at any other point in the life of Gw2 Post release.
Evolution will weed out the weak among us so that we are stronger as a whole. We ranger are strong in body. We should not let our fears and douts weaken our minds.
It is poisonous to the mind and community to spout Anet conspricy theories.
So yes Rangers have a serious problem its not the body it’s our minds.
You are missing the point. People choose rangers because of their play style that is kitting things and hitting foes from afar. None is saying that we can´t be good using melee weapons, that is not the point. So if you remove the one thing that make u choose that class you are basically killing the class.
Nice video BUT i picked the ranger to use bows cuz i like to hit things form afar. You could manage to work the the options available but i think that adapting to new gameplay its not an option for a lot of rangers like myself.
I picked the Ranger because i bought the “unpparallel archer” description. I never liked the pet system (can´t control my pet and nearly half dps rely on it, poor AI) either way i was happy using SB. Now its range is the same than a throwable axe. So the arrows have the same range as an axe flying through the air. That can´t be right. No matter what you say, Ranger was presented as the archer class of the game. Having 2 bows with low (equal to other classes not focused in bows) range/dps don´t make us “unpparallel archers”. I don´t want to use 20 diffrent weapons, i am just expecting to have at least 2 and efficent. If i want to use swords i would pick a warrior not a Ranger.
Actually, this post is extremely wrong on several levels.
a.) Rangers are "unparalleled archers’ simply because they use both shortbows and longbows (as well as axes) and consequently have greater versatility at range than other classes.
b.) Being good at ranged is almost never balanced by being bad at melee, it’s balanced by having weaker defense and requiring more mobility. Being a “ranged class” typically means being proficient at range as well as in melee, not being proficient at range at the expense of melee. WoW is virtually the only game to feature the ‘archer’ class that can’t melee their way out of a paper bag AND they have poor attrition; this is why they were always terrible in pvp. I despise the way the hunter is designed in that game.
c.) In actual use, ranged weapons have a different role than melee weapons. Throughout history, most people with skill in one have some skill in the other because they have different tactical applications. It’s actually far less common for soldiers, warriors, scouts, etc. to be highly specialized in one over the other rather than being competent with both. The ranger in GW2, as well as the Warrior, represent this perfectly.
a) Warriors have pretty good versatility at long range: rifle for single target damage, longbow for AoE skills. The one thing that they lack is a medium-range weapon with high mobility. Sort of like the rangers lack a true long range AoE weapon.
b) Actually, many games seem to be like this. Runescape, Guild Wars 1, Diablo 2, etc.
c) They tended to be capable of using either, but they usually specialized strongly in one or the other. Mongol light horsemen carried 2 bows with which they did most of their fighting, resorting to melee weapons only when forced to. English longbowmen almost never engaged in hand to hand fighting unless forced to (as at Agincourt) by running short of arrows and being significantly outnumbered (and even then, their foes were disoriented and bogged down by mud, so it wasn’t heavy fighting so much as finishing off the enemy). Knights shunned ranged weapons in general, except during sieges when melee weapons weren’t at all useful. Roman legionaries used their pila as a shock weapon just before meeting the enemy in melee combat, after which they used their swords; they relied on specialized auxiliaries and siege weapons to provide long range support. I could go on, but I think I’ve made my point. One of the very few types of historical soldiers I know of that used both extensively was actually the samurai, who originated as mounted archers before becoming more well-rounded warriors, favoring the yumi (composite longbow), yari (spear), and naginata (pole-sword; more or less a glaive).
I didn´t write that. You should correct your post.
If we can´t agree that the Ranger is the archer class of the game this whole argument is pointless.
(edited by Exocet.7306)
What would you expect from a Ranger? A balance between strong ranged skills and low survive at melee right? Why can´t you keep it as simple as that? Have you ever seen, in the hole history of humanity (or fantasy), an archer with a greatsword at his back and no range? I know its a fantasy game but there are limits to be respected for consistency. At the moment we have rangers with greatswords, low dps, and no range. We relly half of our dps in a pet that can´t hit moving targets, can´t dodge, and dies in seconds.
It should be a hard class to master rather than a warrior. I don´t expect to resist a hammer blow. If i am in that situation i am dead and its ok, blame me! but make me deadly from afar.I´ve been a dev for about a decade now and i know how frustrating can be to get this kind of feedback from the ppl you want to satisfy. But honestly, what is a ranger in GW2? A warrior in medium armor shooting unicorns and rainbows? Come on, just tell us you don´t like them so we can pick another class or choose another game.
The class is called ‘Ranger’, not ‘Archer’. What you’re describing is an archer (which you admit to in your own post), making your entire ‘point’ moot. One of the accepted definitions of a ranger (as in, what’s in an actual dictionary): “A person who ranges or roves”. Going by that, a highly mobile, melee build—which is accessible to us—is more in the spirit of a ‘Ranger’ than a stationary bow-wielding build.
I am getting really tired of this ridiculous “It’s ’range’r not ’melee’r!” argument. It is laughable.
Tired of what if you don´t understand what you read…
Try again, here it is from the official website.
Ranger
Rangers rely on a keen eye, a steady hand, and the power of nature itself. Unparalleled archers, rangers are capable of bringing down foes from a distance with their bows. With traps, nature spirits, and a stable of loyal pets at their command, rangers can adapt to any situation.

Kyllaa sugestion worked! Redownloading full patch setting french language. English and Spanish don´t work.
