I cap my Frames-Per-Second to 30 on my MBP and I’ve found that the system runs significantly cooler this way. The processor stays about 10-15 C cooler in fact. (the game runs better too.) I’d rather play it a bit safer than risk long-term damage to my laptop.
I’ve got a Naga Hex on the way. It seems perfect for the play-style of this game. (especially WvW) I haven’t tested it out yet, but I like the idea of the mechanical buttons and the simpler layout on the side as compared with the classic Naga. Using alt modifiers, I’ll be able to get all my spells on the mouse freeing up my left hand for movement and the F1-4 keys. (remapped to ZXCV)
Awesome to hear! I’ve been wanting to purchase some gems and help support the team that brought us this amazing game!
@Red, Another thread was discussing the low FPS on new Macbook Pros and it was suggested to reset your SMC. I did on mine and saw a huge jump in performance.
Details on how to do this can be found here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3964

Just as a side note, I don’t think a Macbook Pro is going to be able to run GW2 on the highest settings at a good frame rate. The limiting factor is the mobile graphics card.
I don’t know what ArenaNet did with the new client tonight, but my FPS literally doubled! Thanks so much! It’s running beautifully now.
Character continues to run after I stop controlling her.

Happens to me as well on occasion. I press every button till it stops. Not sure yet what that secret formula to success is.
@Xandman I played for for about 5 hours after resetting my SMC last night and it stayed consistently high for me. I’m not yet sure what several days of playing will do. I’ll report back and let you know.
Well, here I was all ready to post about my FPS issues and RusInc came along and made my day!
I’ve got the same computer that the original thread creator has and at the lowest settings I was only getting about 30fps in most areas and lower than that in Divinity’s Reach. With some tweaking I finally landed on some settings that seemed like a decent trade off between graphical quality and FPS.
After resetting my SMC, and re-starting the game, without any changes I went from averaging 24 FPS to over 60 FPS! (Looks like I can bump up those settings a little bit now too)
Hopefully ArenaNet can find a way to take advantage of this with their Mac Client.
Also, thank you so much ArenaNet for making this game available for us Mac geeks!
