The meat is actually a projectile attack, so if you’re happy with your damage you can bring Wall of Reflection and Shield of the Avenger to block it which stops it from spawning. I also brought a sword+shield and a hammer for the knockbacks as well as the Bane Signet which proved to be overkill.
As for the teleporting, guardians can be surprisingly mobile with the right skills and weapons equipped. A lot of guardians tend to run with hammers and staves using the AH build, so you might not be used to some of the lesser seen abilities we have access to.
We have Judge’s Intervention which has 1,200 range but requires a target, Flashing Blade with 600 range which also requires a target and a sword equipped and finally Merciful Intervention which teleports you to an ally within 1200 range (rarely seen in my experience).

Hello everyone.
For the past few months I’ve slowly been working my way though the fractals and lately I’ve noticed is that a lot of groups always seem to be asking for or seem very proud of the fact they have a guardian among them. I’ll admit that my knowledge of other classes is not that great as I only really have experience as a Guardian and Elementalist, but I am curious why we are so in demand compared to other profession and I guess, more importantly is there something specific that Guardians are expected to be doing in these runs?
I tend to run with the standard AH build, using mostly knight’s gear with a few pieces of Zerkers fitted with Soldier Runes. I mix up my weapons and utility skills depending on the fractal / boss, but generally run with wall of reflection / Save yourself, Stand your ground and Hold the Line/Shield of the Avenger.
I understand that I’m playing as a support character, but I honestly don’t feel like I’m bringing enough to the group enough to be so sought after. The the only time I really feel that I bring anything unique to the group is countering the harpy’s knockback on the Uncategorized Fractal through stability and projectile absorbing / reflecting.
I don’t think I’ve ever had a complaint from any of the fractal runs I’ve done but I’m rather curious if I’m missing something basic or if that the support I’m providing is more useful than I give it credit for.
Any feedback, thoughts or tips and tricks would be appreciated.
Retaliation deals a set amount of damage every time you are hit and is based on your power, rather than the damage you took by the attack. This means it will deal the same amount of damage if you took 8000 damage from an attack as you would if you took 5.
The actual damage formula if you’re interested is 198.45 + (0.075 * Power) according to the wiki.
As other people have said, it’s more than possible to cross it between pulses, especially if you already have swiftness. Using Writ of Exaltation (10 points in honor traits) for the larger symbols pretty much eliminates this problem, although I admit it’s not exactly the ideal solution.
I think a lot of the issues with this skill come from the fact that it seems to grant it’s swiftness buff in pulses every X seconds or so, rather than when a player touches it. If you’re unlucky with the timings, it seems you can travel across the symbol between pulses assuming you already have swiftness which is probably why I’ve had a lot less issues with the skill after I started using Writ of Exaltation (larger symbols).
Note the above is all based on anecdotal evidence and I honestly haven’t been playing a Guardian for that long.
It’s the norm for elementalists (and engineers I believe) since our profession already have access to more than enough skills via the attunement system. Our profession already has access to 25 skills to use in combat, I think 45 would be overkill.
