How are we still having this conversation. Listen people, this is probably the most simple issue that can be explained by giving classifications.
Farming, Dungeon Running, Champ bag opening, etc = Gold Creative
Flipping items on the trading post = Gold Destructive
Imagine logging in to find that 1 iron ingot was 15s a piece. Supply on the item was the same and the demand was exactly the same. What caused this to occur? Inflation.
Guild Wars 2’s economy has very few gold sinks and quite a few faucets. They just got rid of two more gold sinks…so they have to balance that by closing a faucet, otherwise the water will spill over into the lanoleum and then you have to grab a mop: it’s a horrible mess.
Going back to my classifications, since the trading post does not actually create gold but is the biggest SINK for gold in the game you cannot solve the imbalance of removing two other sinks by discouraging people from using it. You must, therefore, find a faucet (i.e. champ bags which everyone gets at all times) and reduce the flow from them.
What I find funny about this whole topic is that the champ bags are not being nerfed in RNG. They’re being nerfed in silver directly dropped by the bag. Listen, I didn’t do bag farming too often, but I can say when I open a champ bag I just don’t stand and ovate over the amount of silver I receive. In any case, I think the loot from them is more exciting than the direct silver.
Anyways, feel free to argue with me, I’m done. Just wanted to point out that the reason for this whole topic is completely stupid since it has nothing to do with the reasoning used for limiting silver drops from champ bags. Hasta lasagna!
(If I got any information about champ bags wrong: OOPS! It still doesn’t change my premise which is indubitably true.)

Why exactly is this a problem? You think Anet is going to constantly adjust the mats required due to current prices?
Let’s say Damask becomes cheap and Elonian becomes the most expensive in the game.
You think Anet would reverse the recipes then? When should they be reversed? By how much? It opens a pandora’s box.
Just suck it up and be efficient. Use Elonian Square if you are so paranoid about gold.
Why not? They consistently do it the other way around.
When mats become too low in value they change the recipes and make them more expensive and nerf the drop rates. So why exactly should they only adjust it one way and not the other?
Of course they should adjust it, one profession shouldn’t have easy access to an item that another profession can not hope to possibly obtain when it is meant to be a limited time LS item.
First off they only do that when the supply and demand are convoluted; when an item that was not intended to be rare is rare. If they have done otherwise then they are meddling and have opened the can of worms for people to whine about the price of items on the trading post, which is ridiculous. Please, stick with screwing up the real world economy with your “it’s not fair” mantra. Leave it out of the video games.
Also! This item is not limited to the living story. None of the craftable items from any of the living stories are limited to that story instance. You simply hold the required materials and wait until it’s available for crafting. You don’t have to craft it in that two week window.

Are you people seriously suggesting Anet, when deciding how to balance things, should look at the trading post, pick some arbitrary amount of gold they think you should spend, and then balance the material requirements accordingly?
Guys, you can craft each of the items yourselves. They don’t balance for the market, the market balances for the patch. I have a feeling none of you have any concept of supply and demand. Make your own elonian leather squares! It will only take 15 days and if I’m right about this you’ll watch the cost of elonian squares go down as people find profit in producing them.
Either way, this isn’t Anet’s fault that the price is that high. I think you guys are so used to controlled economies that you don’t know how real economies work.

Our Creed
Gaming is an interesting animal. It’s name implies relaxing fun and yet, in the same breath, espouses competition and struggle. It is ’s intention to help blur the lines between what is fun and what is competitive. When it comes down to it we are nothing more than a group of guys and gals seeking to have fun, but at the same time seeking success. There is no feeling greater than when a group of individuals comes together to topple some insurmountable task. We recognize that real-life exists and that all men must live in it (unless you’re a 30-year-old basement dweller) and do not forbid our members from partaking in it. It is our utmost purpose to grow a family. We do not want you to join if you plan on coming in, taking what you can, and leaving. We don’t want you if you do not intend to be social or become our friend. We certainly don’t want you if you’re a troublemaker or a troll. Hey, I admitted I was probably wrong and even asked to be corrected if I was. I wasn’t joking lol. My point stands however, that it certainly feels gamey (2v1 when it does occur)
I’m glad to see that it probably wasn’t an alliance formed against us, but it was certainly odd that they held literally everything. You’ll notice that we are not able to do the same thing they did this morning.I know now it’s probably due to the time zone difference and the whole oceanic thing and the fact that SBI seems to have taken a more lax push in WvW tonight.
I apologize if I offended anyone, but I had to at least get my point out there. I just prefer to lose due to mistakes that can be rectified in later matchups, not things that discourage one server from even bothering to try. It’s highly discouraging when you hear fellow players actively saying “why bother because…”. Wish I had an answer for that particular problem, but I guess that’s just human.

I stand corrected then. It just seemed wholly odd to me because I’ve never seen such a disparity in the time that I’ve been playing this week.
If this is a natural anomaly then I guess that’s fine. It’s obvious that somehow the tables have turned since I got back from work and we now hold a lead in ppt (not in total points) as well. Hope the best wins in any case.

Read for posterity but I’ve already admitted I was wrong with my assumptions, but I still think my point is valid. Feel free to read on :P
I understand that there is no way to police this but this rubs me all of the wrong ways.
I am a member of Borlis Pass and have played WvW with the intention of completing the meta as well as helping my server reach as high as possible.
We are currently in a matchup with Stormbluff Isle (SBI) and Dragonbrand (DB) and, while being smashed entirely by SBI, we’ve held a close back-and-forth with DB. This has been exciting for my guild particularly because defeating DB and coming second in this particular matchup all but guarantees our server will be in the top tier of rewards for our league.
That is, of course, until this morning when it has become highly apparent that something fishy is going on in the state of Denmark. I do not want to make false claims that I cannot prove but it is incredibly odd that just this morning I log on to find that DB has not only gained a lead on us, but they have taken everything of importance from SBI as well. This has not been possible at any point during this matchup.
It seems to me that SBI is allowing DB to take it’s keeps, towers, and castles in order to drive DB to the win on this final day of the competition. If I’m wrong someone please feel free to correct me.
It highlights some of the many problems I’ve noticed about WvW but have not voiced because I hate to complain about a free-ish game, but this is such a game breaking problem for me.
Perhaps the second tier of rewards will not be that much different from the first tier, but to have a legitimate run at gaining the top tier rewards for WvW snatched from us by what can only appear to be a political move takes all of the fun and competition out of leagues.
I’m not going to speculate on what all makes this possible, I’m sure someone else will do that for me. But I know that I for one do not find this at all fun.
My final thought is that what is the point in participating in a competition if you cannot win based solely on your ability to play the game? We look down on cheaters at every sport or competitive action that happens in our world. Football, soccer, hockey, tennis, and even cup stacking are all sports that noone enjoys to see someone cheated out of a victory.
Please, encourage your servers to engage in honest play with their enemies. If you’re going to smash your enemies then more power to you! SBI I commend your server for how active they are in WvW. I know it must be boring for you when there’s no competition, but that’s a problem with the leagues that will need to be addressed before the next league happens, because it’s plainly obvious that you and FA were both below your league.
Please don’t use your position at 300k WP to play king maker and decide who will gain the lead in your matchup. It’s dishonest, and unsportsmanlike.
